Pretty bad experience and a complete waste of time. Before my first appointment I filled a detailed questionnaire that included insurance information. Still, during the first 15-20 minutes of my appointment she kept grilling me about my insurance information, wasting my time. After that she wasted some more time dissing the newborn care classes I attended at Swedish. I had already decided against getting long term care by now, this kind of negative attitude is not conducive for sure and I totally agree with the other reviews about the dismissive and negative personality traits. The funny thing is after a few weeks she reached out complaining that she was not able to make an insurance claim. However, I checked both my primary and secondary insurance claims, and the claim related to her was processed by both the primary and secondary insurance. read more

Renee has been an amazing lactation consultant! There is so much to breastfeeding and she has done an amazing job of walking me through each step of the process. I began seeing her before I gave birth which really helped set the stage for my breastfeeding journey. Since giving birth, she has helped me through mastitis, nipple soreness, and supply challenges. At the peak of my mastitis troubles, she did not hesitate to get on the phone with me and walk me through remedies. She is extremely seasoned and takes her time explaining things. There is so much conflicting information online that it has been hard to unlearn all the things social media throws at us. Renee makes the journey an easier one to navigate. The worst lactation consultant in Seattle. We worked with 4 lactation consultants is Seattle all: 1. Were respectful 2. Provided at least one piece of helpful advice 3. Were punctual and easy to communicate with Renee was none of these things. Scheduling with Renee was very difficult she changed our appointment times 3 times after initially scheduling it and even after it was scheduled she was an hour late. When she arrived at our house she immediately started criticizing me and my wife for every thing we did. For example, as she came in the door, my newborn started fussing. I knew this was because he needed a diaper change but when I mentioned I was going to change him she said "Well that's a bad idea Dad, you're just going to make it worse". (For the record he stopped crying after the diaper change). She then went on to critize everything about how my wife was breastfeeding telling us everything all the other lactation consultants told us was wrong and how they must not have had the level of experience that she had. We followed the advice from our appointment exactly for about a month thinking that she must be some lactation Guru and he way was right. From following her advice my wife's supply went DOWN and she also had more soreness. After going back to what other consultants had told us, a little online research and trial & error we found what worked for us. Now breastfeeding is a breeze for my wife and she really enjoys it! I wish we had never met Renee so we could have gotten to this point sooner. I wish I could give Renee zero stars, please do not work with her. read more

After a preterm birth at 34 weeks, my son was on formula from day 1. I was struggling through low supply and couldn't get my son to latch and breast feed after what felt like a hundred attempts. Renee came highly recommended by the lactation consultant's at UW northwest. A month after his birth, I realized I need help and was able to send her a voicemail. We were able to schedule a home visit within a week. At the first visit, Renee was able to quickly get to the bottom of my issues and provided extremely valuable inputs on the flange size and ways I could improve my supply. 5 weeks of following her advice, I was able to increase my supply and completely stop formula for my baby. We next started to work towards getting him to latch and breastfeed. Renee again provided practical advice, suggested paced bottle feeding and patiently answered my questions. I would reach out to her through messages and she was always quick to respond. Her messaging was also very clear and informative. Now at 3 months, I am able to nurse my child and can say good bye to pumping. It was extremely difficult to find time to bond with my son while pumping every few hours nor was I able spend time with my family last few months after giving birth. I am so glad I found Renee! She is a tower of strength and encouragement. Her blog is a treasure trove of amazing information for new moms! Her visits would always help me persevere at my efforts to breastfeed. There wasn't a single question that she didn't have an answer for. Renee knows EVERYTHING about breastfeeding. I started working with her before giving birth and she gave me both the knowledge and confidence I needed to breastfeed. When I was struggling with latch for my tongue and lip tied baby, she helped me find a position that worked well for him and he is now a fantastic breastfeeder. She was responsive, prioritized seeing me quickly, promptly identified our main issue (tongue tie) + other areas to make things more comfortable (neck work, positioning, pump flange sizing), and helped us through solving. Bottom line, before we met Renee our son had never breastfed successfully, not for lack of lactation visits (within reason for a 2.5 week old). By the time he was 7 weeks old, we were done with visits and only bottle-feeding when we wanted to. She got us results. I read some of these negative reviews, and I can see why she would be divisive. She is not especially warm (which is perfectly fine, she has her own style), and breast-feeding is a high-stress situation. These days failing at breast-feeding can feel like failing at parenting (it is not!), so getting direct feedback can feel like a personal attack. We even felt a little of that at times, and we were totally successful! She is also quite opinionated, but is clearly knowledgeable so we tended to trust her opinion. Some of her advice we did not totally follow, because it did not fit with our own parenting. (Example: she told us the car seat "is not a baby bucket" and we should leave it in the car as much as possible and carry him around separately. Now we call it our baby bucket.) What I cannot believe are the reviews that suggest she is dismissive or uncaring towards families. She clearly cared about both my wife and son, and did all she could in each session to arm us with enough knowledge as possible to be successful. We had clear plans and we made progress and ultimately left very happy. She was great for us! She correctly diagnosed his tongue and lip ties (earlier lactation visits did not find them), and getting those released at the Docere center was really a game-changer for us. I am even getting my own, adult tongue-tie treated based on her referral! Overall, Renee was great. She's like the loose cannon cop: she might ruffle some feathers but, damnit, SHE GETS RESULTS. read more

Mothers beware! I strongly do NOT recommend using Renee as your lactation consultant! If I could give zero stars, I would! We had an extremely negative and traumatic experience with Renee. Our son started off his first week and half of life having some challenges in getting a good latch and successfully breastfeeding. We contacted Renee and set up an appt. for her to come to our house, see what we were doing, and offer support. Our son started getting better the day before she came and we considered canceling, but decided to keep the appt. in the assumption that it could only help and that we'd learn something. We were wrong. Renee came and offered her "help," but she spent the entire 2-hour visit berating us, telling us what we were doing was all wrong, that we were starving our son, and that we should not be breastfeeding at all and should instead use formula and a bottle! She left us in worse shape and it took us days to get him back to where he was before she came. Here are the low-lights of Renee's consulting: - Never once did she ask to see what we were doing presently and watch my wife breastfeed our son. - Never once did she talk about her own personal experiences with breastfeeding. - She bad-mouthed other IBCLCs and doctors that she had worked with and told us they were all wrong and she was right. - She "diagnosed" our son as needing a helmet to make sure that "his brain grows correctly." - She "diagnosed" my wife as not having the right breast type to breastfeed. - She forcefully pushed our son's head onto my wife's breast repeatedly in her attempt to get a good latch. We did tell her stop at that point because he was crying and looked in pain. We had to have our newborn chiropractor readjust him to fix what damage she caused. - She contacted our doula and questioned her about us, our son, and his health --- all AFTER we REVOKED consent for her to contact our other care providers. - She took a personal phone call in the middle of the appt. (without asking if it was okay), saying that it was about her car and she needed to take it. She left the house and appt. with my wife in tears . . . saying that all new moms cry at her appointments. Really?! That's what she calls support? That's what I call emotional abuse and torment! Renee was not open to hearing about other ways to do things, was not patient at all with her demeanor and bedside manner, and not friendly or kind to us. Rather, she was short, dismissive, rude, unprofessional. New mothers need patience, kindness, and understanding. They can be emotionally fragile and need someone there for support and guidance. They need someone to care, to listen, and to coach. Renee is NOT that person. Use someone else. Analyze these reviews --- The positive ones are from 2012 or earlier. The more recent reviews show her to be what we experienced. Someone who is jaded, self-absorbed, and who you should not be using as your lactation consultant. We only wish that we had asked her leave our house sooner and not have inflicted as much damage as she did; but with this review, I hope to inform you about her services and guide you elsewhere. read more

Renee was not able to help with my ability to bf and was insensitive to my concerns. She did offer a few helpful tips that helped with ease and effectiveness of latch. I saw a lot of lactation consultants so I didn't expect that she would be able to miraculously solve my low supply issue, however what was disappointing was that she did not listen to my concerns or acknowledge that she may not have the solution. I 100% agree with the recent reviewers about her impatience, making mom feel inadequate, and being condescending to other lcs without offering alternative solutions. read more

Renee is the reason I have been able to breastfeed my babies. She gave me the encouragement and information I needed to build my way to exclusive breastfeeding. Renee was my 4th lactation consultant (God bless my husband for continuing to encourage me to find someone helpful for us). When I got to her, I had an infant who wasn't gaining weight well, an exhausting triple feeding schedule (nursing, pumping and supplementing), and nipples that made nurses and lactation consultants groan and give me sad eyes. I'd received a lot of suggestions and opinions but very little informed expertise. Even more valuable than the techniques for latching and being the first to notice my daughter's tongue tie, was the permission to do what I was able to and not to stress about the rest. I could nurse my baby and supplement with formula while I built my supply. The bottle wouldn't sabotage us and I was still breastfeeding my baby. The anxiety I was carrying about breastfeeding started to grow smaller and my supply started to increase. We were exclusively breastfeeding at 3 months and I nursed my daughter until 18 months - about half way through my second pregnancy. She's been just as helpful with the second as she was with the first. read more

I was referred to Renee via the Breastfeeding After (breast) reduction website. It was easy to make an appt. The Docere Center for natural Medicine, where she sees insurance patients, has an online portal which is very helpful for the pre appt stuff. Luckily I handled all the paperwork before hand because when I got there, Renee expressed that she didn't know how to handle the paperwork, and the receptionist was out. Renee also informed me that she was waiting on her intern to arrive. I wish she would've asked me if I was alright with having an intern present but she clearly didn't see the need to do so. The first appt was 90; and it was very useful. Renee taught me how to breastfeed without using a shield! Yes. Both her and her intern seemed rather competent together, as well as thorough. The second appt was different. Renee told me that she was going to let her intern handle the appt so she could "catch up on yesterday," and return at the end of the appt. Again, she did not ask if I was okay with this, she just left. Unfortunately the intern didn't weigh my baby properly in ordered to see how much milk she took after I breastfed her. When I expressed concern, she said, "well that's only one data point." Yes, true indeed, but it's the most reliable data point. Men lie, women lie, but numbers don't lie! The intern also didn't use the appt time efficiently to the point where Renee ended up shooing me out the door! It was off putting but I understand the need to move things along. These oddities probably wouldn't have happened if Renee stayed in the room the entire time. Also, my case is pretty complicated and isn't really suitable for an intern to take on unsupervised. If my second appt was like my first, I would have given her 5 stars. Unfortunately, it seemed like it was an off day, and I didn't get anything out of my second appt, which sucks because I drove an hour each way to see her. read more

Not very patient. As a first time mom I struggle with nursing especially being bustier. She seemed frustrated with me which made me feel almost embarrassed since nursing was suppose to be so 'natural' I returned to my other lactation nurse who was out of town and she was quite upset that Renee would even try to take a patient from her and and completely change my plan. All in all, seeing Renee seemed more like a setback if anything. read more

Renee is fabulous. She has helped me with all three of my babies. My first labor was long, and since we had opted for a birth center birth we went straight home after delivery. My baby couldn't nurse, and I had no idea what to do. Renee came to my house on a Sunday (which was her day off). With her help we pumped and bottle fed for a few weeks, and eventually got my son nursing. I had an abundant supply, and we nursed for almost three years. I credit Renee for helping us be so successful. With my second child I thought I knew it all. The lactation consultant in the hospital told me my baby didn't have a tongue tie. I new things weren't great, but the professional told me it would get better. It got easier for her to latch, but she nursed for hours. I posted about her marathon cluster feeding sessions in Renee's Facebook group and she reached out to advise me I should come see her. My baby had a tongue and lip tie, and Renee helped us sort things and get more sleep! We also nursed for 2.5 years. With my third baby I knew to call Renee the day my son was born even though the hospital lactation consultants were sure he didn't have a tongue tie. Sure enough, he did. I had also developed soppy habits from nursing a toddler, and Renee helped me improve my skills so my wrists would not hurt. I also noted to Renee that I was having supply issues, and she immediately knew something was wrong because this had never happened before with me. She had me go straight to my OB, and sure enough I had clots in my uterus. Once they were gone my supply recovered. Baby three has transformed from a tiny newborn who dropped more than 10% of his birthweight to a chubby six month old in the 97th percentile or weight and 99th for height. Again, I owe Renee a debt I can't repay for her help. Renee is thoughtful, knowledgeable, and friendly. I highly recommend her. read more

Renee helped me out in a desperate time. My son was born with a severe tongue tie and the day it was clipped I contacted Renee to come help me get him to latch. She was able to come to my house the next day. After her consult, we were able to put into practice the simple steps she recommended and I'm now happy to report that my son is almost 100% on breast milk and he's still less than 2 weeks old. If you're looking for someone to give you thorough, direct, effective guidance on how to establish/improve/continue a breastfeeding relationship, she's the one to call. Renee brings decades of knowledge and experience and a continuous dedication to mamas and babies to each and every visit. She is meticulous and patient in her assessments and tailors each visit to your needs. I never had to wait an unreasonable amount of time for responses to follow-up questions. No matter what day it is, this woman is working! There was no nonsense with Renee. I respect her so much for that. She will observe, assess and correct until mama and baby are nursing comfortably. She will tell you when to worry and when not to worry, which I needed as a PP Mom! I wanted to know whether my daughter was eating enough, eating frequently enough, how to nurse without crying out in pain, how to care for my breasts (turns out they can require quite a lot of attention), how to bottle feed, etc. She diagnosed a tongue tie, referred us to a doctor to clip the tie, attended the appointment WITH us and met with us for follow-up care. Renee was with us every step of the way. My daughter had an episode unrelated to nursing and spent 17 days in Seattle Children's. Renee checked on us while we were hospitalized, advised us on pumping and bottle feeding and helped us re-establish a breastfeeding relationship post hospital visit. My daughter left the bottle soon after her hospitalization and went on to exclusively nurse at the breast. The impact she had on our nursing relationship and on the bond I share with my daughter is incredible and I will be forever grateful for that. Plus, she's a stellar human. When I met with Renee, my son was 2 weeks old and not gaining weight appropriately. My nipples were in terrible shape after 2 weeks of poor latch. She helped me create a plan to make sure my son was gaining weight appropriately, allow my body to heal, and increase my milk supply. It's now 1.5 weeks later, and I my baby is gaining weight appropriately, my supply is great, my nipples are much improved. Together we achieved all of my goals. She is incredibly responsive, even on the weekends, and we corresponded multiple times after my initial consult. I saw Renee for supply issues after seeing 3 other LCs. She was the first one to tell me NOT to take Fenugreek due to existing thyroid issues. Every other consultant knew I have thyroid issues yet recommended fenugreek, even though it makes thyroid issues worse and will hurt milk production. She recommended other supplements, tweaked my technique, and she taught me how to properly pump. She is always a text or phone call away, and really keeps up on current research. Breastfeeding is hard and most moms can't do it without great support. It really does take a village and Renee is someone you want as part of yours. She has helped me with baby 1 & 2. I had no idea what I was doing before I received Renee's support. She helped with latching, positioning, pumping and checking baby for tongue tie. Recently she also helped me with a bad mastitis infection. Her visit was a god send because due to her experience she was able to see that my infection was on the severe side and advised me to call my doctor after she left. We got a few helpful tips about positioning the rest of the appointment left a bad taste in my mouth. First off she berated me for pumping about an hour and half before our appointment. I had to pump and prioritize that so we have enough to bottle feed. She should have let me know to skip pumping ahead of the appointment. Then she spent a lot of time talking about my supply. I had recently altered my meds and was working on building my supply back up, but wasn't too concerned because we have a deep freezer full of milk. She made me feel bad that I would want to use that backstock - but I want to use it up, otherwise why did I spend all those hours of my life pumping while my little one was in the NICU. When she left I felt worse off and more stressed about breastfeeding than before. In the end I figured things out on my own and talking to other moms. Eventually I figured out most of my supply issues were due to a broken breast pump. Which was never addressed by Rene. read more

Several months after her birth, my daughter and I are still exclusively breastfeeding, which we owe all to Renee. I called Renee at the recommendation of several mom friends, who said she is a well-regarded Seattle expert on breastfeeding. Later, I learned my pediatrician's office also regularly refers patients to her. She is very dedicated, replies promptly to messages, and will visit your home if needed. Without her home visit a couple of days after my daughter was born, I likely wouldn't still be breastfeeding, due to unnecessary pain on my end. Fortunately, Renee immediately diagnosed some latching and tongue-tie issues, and provided a wealth of knowledge and resources. Most importantly, she was patient and compassionate. I recently moved to Seattle with mastitis. I was on the verge of ending my breastfeeding (exclusively pumping) journey but was referred to Renee from my previous LC. Renee promptly was able to see me at my home and conduct a thorough visit. With her treatment plan, I was able to overcome the mastitis and continue on my pumping journey. If I could I'd give her no stars. Renee is insensitive and extremely condescending. We had our sons tongue and lip tie corrected and then did the aftercare appointment as recommended. Renee forgot to get our sons weight at the first appointment, she rushed us out of the office, we realized this after 15 minutes and returned, hoping to get a quick weight...for an after peoceedure baseline. They were too busy and we left, not thrilled, but somewhat understanding. Fast forward 6 days. We have our lactation consultation with Renee. She doesn't once acknowledge that our sons slower weight gain the last 2 months has been likely due to his tongue restriction. He was only off of the average by .25 ounces a day, not ideal but not extremely alarming either. This was, after all, why we had his ties released. She also had no baseline from the following appointment to compare his current weight to. She would absolutely not believe me when I said I had an ample supply. I thought lactation consultants were supposed to support your breast feeding journey...She insisted we feed our baby from a cup! Before our appointment with her, we had our follow up with the DOCTOR whom is amazing, chenelle Roberts. She showed us how we had been doing our sons tongue stretches incorrectly. When Renee reiterated the stretch method in her appointment, she AGAIN SHOWED US THE WRONG WAY. The way chenelle insisted was incorrect. So we were only doing them the way taught, and we were taught wrong. Alder was crying and inconsolable, I knew what was wrong, we practice elimination communication at home and he never wears a diaper for this long of a stretch. Assuming She would be fine with me getting him to eat however he was comfordable I removes his cloth diaper and began trying again to feed him. She was sooo rude, and insisted "I dont want him pooping and peeing all over my office". Had she offered us a garbage can, there would have been no issue. Anyways, she backtalks other patients and doctors and is just overall an awful human to be around. I can't even cover all the details, it was 100% bad. Renee is amazing! We were really having a rough time with my daughter. She was not gaining enough weight and my supply was not an issue. After two visits with Renee she told me what I'm eating may be the issue. I went top 8 allergy free and we finally started to seem some massive improvement. We had seen so many doctors, went to PT, and so on. No one could figure out our daughter, except for Renee. We eventually found out our daughter has a rare food syndrome called FPIES. I have no clue where we would be if it wasn't for her. My daughter is doing amazing because of her! Renee is the best in Seattle! read more

Renee is the lactation consultant I am working with for creating breastfeeding content on my upcoming website, and had I known she existed when I had my baby I would have booked time with her before and after delivery. Renee was the second LC I saw after a horrible and unhelpful experience with another. I only wish I had seen her earlier but at 3 weeks after my daughter was born we were able to get her lip/tongue ties corrected which gave my baby full capabilities but my supply then needed help. Renee guided and supported us, giving was a great plan which allowed me to still EBF my daughter and supplement with my own BM. My daughters weight gain went from bare min to a beautiful increase in DAYS and my supply started catching up. At our second appointment with her I brought my pump and the flanges I had where she was able to 1. Notice my pump wasn't functioning correctly and 2. I needed much smaller flange sizes where she ended up having a pair she bought, that she let me take off her hands. Huge difference in pumping as well!! Here we are just a couple weeks later not needing to give any extra milk(meaning I can pump and save) and we have a happy baby happy momma! This was hard work but so worth it. Renee was recommended to me by my doula. During the first week after birth, I was having issues getting my newborn to latch on one side. Both baby and I were getting very frustrated and crying a lot. Renee was able to see us in our house on the very next day and showed me how to properly latch and refine my technique. She was very thoughtful, supportive, and super quick to respond to phone calls and emails. I went back to her once more at her drop-in group session and since then we've had no problems with nursing! I've recommended her numerous times to other moms who are having difficultly with nursing. As a note, our insurance (Regence UMP) paid for approx. half the visit and we had to file the lactation consultant forms ourselves--it was pretty straightforward but we did have to call insurance to figure out how to file it.
