Nurturing Expressions made the whole process of figuring out my breastfeeding supplies so much easier. The staff is kind, patient, and very knowledgeable--they explained in detail the pros/cons of varying breast pumps, bottles, pacifiers etc...and in a way that was easy to understand. I love that they do breast pump accessory fittings to ensure you are ordering the correct sizes. Not having the correct size can have a huge impact on your breastfeeding experience. They're well organized and even handle insurance and billing directly. I left confident in my choice of breast pump and find peace of mind knowing I can stop by anytime if I need any help down the road. I rented a pump through nurturing expressions and while I loved the pump, I did not love nurturing expressions and would never rent through them again. My insurance through my employer covers the Medela Symphony pump at 100%. I confirmed with my employer & insurance ahead of time and I also contacted nurturing expressions. They said some employers (insurances) don't, so there may be an upgrade fee I have to pay, but they've worked with mine before and it would be covered. I set up a pick up for the pump for my due date, gave them all information they needed and went about the business of having a baby. I picked up the pump without much issue - they even put a note on the rental agreement that the $90 + tax would be billed to insurance. All was well for a few months until someone at my insurance company made a mistake and did not cover the upgrade fee for a couple of months. At this point I contacted nurturing expressions and they were adamant that the upgrade fee is never covered by insurance and I have to pay. They were also baffled about the note about billing $90 + tax to insurance - someone at their store must have made a mistake since they bill more! But I have to pay the upgrade fee, they were adamant about that, so I immediately returned the pump to them and rented from a different place while I figure out what happened. I researched and called and talked to insurance and nurturing expressions multiple times and found that: - nurturing expressions bills $90 + tax to insurance AS WELL AS an upgrade fee of $59.09 which happens to be the difference between $90 + tax and what insurance covers ($40) for in-network providers. So they bill the negotiated discount with insurance as an upgrade fee - my insurance does cover the upgrade fee, but they made a mistake for those two months and they will send a check for the difference. They did so in June of 2024, so about 6 months after I returned the pump to nurturing expressions. You'd think all would end here, but in December of 2024 I started getting phone calls from a *collection* agency for those two months despite the fact that insurance sent a check to nurturing expressions. read more

Seriously, I am so grateful this store exists and is nearby- I don't know what women do when they don't have an incredible resource like this place! I came in because I needed to be resized six months into pumping and had the most pleasant experience getting help fitting for my two pumps. They even took on the process of submitting the claim to my insurance for things and helped me make sure I got as much as I could covered. They advertised being in network with Premera and were actually out of network for months. They agreed to waive off my copay until they "sorted this out". Emails to them go unanswered especially since email is the primary means of communication for them (unless you shop in store). Breast pump are more expensive than Walmart if you go through insurance. Better is to buy the pump at Walmart and reimburse at out of network rates (check your plan how much they reimburse out of network first) For example Spectra S1 is $70 after insurance with them. However, Premera reimburses us $250 so if you bought the same pump at Walmart or Target, it is free. I am revising my review to 3 stars from 1 star since the business actually responds to feedback. Lack of email responses and proactive communication is the main reason for not giving them full marks. It goes to 1 star again as the response to have someone reply to me was hollow and no one actually bothers to contact even after escalating to the owner. read more

Nurturing expressions was there to support me through tongue tie revision, feeding efficiency, reflux, low milk supply, pumping and bottle feeding. One year ago March 1 I had my twin boys. I was told by my doctor to hurry and get a hospital grade pump so that I could continue to produce milk while the boys were in the NICU. Nurturing Expressions was the easiest and quickest place to go to. I made a phone call and they were very inviting and welcoming. When I went in it had been only five days since my C-section. I got the hospital grade pump went home and started pumping. I had been using the hospital one prior. December 2019 was going to be a huge change for my insurance. I was moving from Premera to Regence Uniformed Insurance. Premera had always covered renting the pump from Nurturing Expressions. Nurturing Expressions even replaced it twice when it wasn't quite maintaining the suction I needed. So I was disappointed finding out that the insurance I was going to in January would not allow me to rent a hospital grade pump for my twins. They did fund a large portion for a portable pump. However, I understand the portable ones do not have the same suction or type of suction. For me, it was extremely important to continue pumping and keeping my milk flow for twins until they were a year old. Nurturing Expressions totally understood and helped me find one. They had several, but the one that seemed the best is called Unimom. I used it for a couple of weeks. At first, I was having a hard time getting used to it because it pumps differently than even a hospital grade pump. After a week, I noticed that the suction felt quite the same. So I believe I've had it for about four or six weeks now and I'm quite satisfied with it, as matter fact, I think there is increase. I have not measured, but the flow feels different. I both pump and breastfeed. The boys tend to stay longer on the breast since I started using the Unimom. I'm very grateful to Nurturing Expressions for helping me find the right fit for my needs. I have so many more positive things to say about Nurturing Expressions, but I'm afraid that this review would be too long for people to read. Just know that if you do contact Nurturing Expressions and go there for your lactation needs they're going to support you and find the best fit whether it be phalanges or pump. My husband and I just had our first baby a few days ago and my breast pump was extremely painful to use, so one of the lactation specialist in the hospital recommended Nurturing Expressions. We could not recommend the store enough. We went in with questions about the pump ready to buy a brand new pump and drop kick the current one off a Cliff. Jenn, the store manager said she was free to help take a look at the sizing and fit for my nipples and flanges (even without an appointment). She took us back and quickly realized that my flange sizes were wrong. She fit me in the correct size and did a wonderful job with education. We felt seen and heard and genuinely cared about. The store lead Nicole was also beyond helpful in finding accessories for my pump and some cute pacifiers from a local woman owned company. She informed us some of the items we purchase in store can be billed to insurance and if we wanted to order things online from the store, insurance would pay for shipping as well. I am not kidding when I say this store saved us. They could have sold me a new $500 pump, but instead took the time to investigate my situation and help my husband and I know what pumping should feel like... NOT PAINFUL. Jenn also told us there is a breast feeding support group on Wednesdays. Even though things are now going great breastfeeding and with the pump, I want to go back just to be in the presence of those kick ass women and maybe buy some new nursing/ pumping bras (they have a great selection). Andrea Chamberlain at Nurturing Expressions in West Seattle has been an exceptional resource in the nursing and pumping journey and the top in her profession. I am so thankful I found Andrea this time around. I struggled with my first (low production, triple feeding, tongue tie, hospital stay post delivery) and I was extremely anxious for how my journey would turn out the second time around. I dont usually do this, but am taking a stand on one of the worst customer experience ever. There is a company called Nurturing Expressions, it is a local medical supply company. I was given compression socks due to blood clots in my leg after surgery. Long story short, they were the wrong ones. I sent them back and because the box was open (do people not try them on) they wouldnt take them back, and are threatening to take me to collections over a 60.00 wrong item I'm sorry but this is beyond wrong. They hound you I finally had to block their number because of the phone calls starting at 7 am. Let me recap 1. Dont bill insurance 2. Wont take item back 3. Sent to collections Sorry Nurturing Expression 3 strikes. You are a bad company to do any business with. This place is amazing for all things Mommy and Baby. I was blown away at the level of service I was given by the friendly knowledgeable staff. They were awesome at helping fit me for a belly band, and finding me the perfect breast pump. I also had some complications with breast feeding which was hard because I had a c section. Tracy was so wonderful and had the magic touch to get me and my baby on the right track. She also was able to help me with upping my milk supply, taught me and my baby how to latch correctly so I wasn't in pain anymore, got me nipple cream and cooling soothing nipple shields to help relive my cracked bleeding boobs from my little snap turtle. My baby was a very aggressive eater and it was wonderful having someone like Tracy reassure me that this was normal and she could help make breastfeeding a wonderful experience. Which she absolutely did. I fell in love with breastfeeding and successfully breastfed my little guy until he weaned himself at 10 months old. And now I miss it. The store is also super adorable and they have a breastfeeding group that Tracy leads in helping new moms feed their babies successfully. You can also stop in if you shopping or running errands in the junction and change and nurse your baby in the baby room. Tracy and Andrea helped us successfully transition from 100% bottle feeding to 100% breastfeeding when our baby was three months old. They changed our lives. We faced many challenges - prematurity, NICU, food intolerances, failure to thrive, ongoing medical challenges. Because of Tracy's decades of experience, and because she's also a nurse, she was unfazed, and carefully and expertly helped us navigate everything. Andrea first rescued us with a virtual pumping consult that was a game changer for exclusive pumping, eliminating the pain and increasing my volumes significantly (highly recommend Pumpin Pals shields!). At three months old, we were finally able to try transitioning from pumping/bottle feeding to breastfeeding. This is a difficult thing to do at all, let alone with a kid with multiple health complications and risks. We knew success wasn't guaranteed. But we succeeded! Tracy and Andrea were there every step of the way, with detailed guidance and advice and troubleshooting. We did both virtual and in person appts (I found in person critical to achieving deep latch). When we had questions or concerns, they listened to our feedback and adjusted course to support us. Breastfeeding has changed our kid's life. He was miserable and couldn't sleep while on hypoallergenic formula (it's thin and bitter). With my elimination diet and finally breastfeeding, he has had incredible catch-up growth for months. Most importantly, he's happy and healthy and at ease and sleeps. He's a completely different person. Because Tracy is an RN too, our many appointments were fully covered by my insurance, which was a big deal. Tracy and Andrea have deep experience in all things babies: medical complications, lactation, midwifery, infant daycare, pumping, etc. They are a great team, and offer so much wisdom. Andrea's extraordinary empathy is an amazing gift for new parents; she has been such a cheerleader and support for our family during such a difficult time. Just to let everyone who has Blue cross blue shield insurance know, most of the time the insurance covers the pump up to $250. If you order Medela Pump In Style Advanced Breast Pump Backpack or Medela Pump in Style Advanced Breast Pump with On the Go Tote, they will charge you $300. They will bill the insurance $250 and you will have to pay $50. As soon as the pump is in your hand, they do not except return. My advice is to go buy it at Target or Amazon. As of today, Amazon only charge $217.62 for Medela Pump In Style Advanced Breast Pump Backpack, and $200 for Medela Pump in Style Advanced Breast Pump with On the Go Tote. I am so thankful for the excellent resource that Nurturing Expressions is for new moms! I called Tracy's business in a panic this November while my son was less than a week old and was unable to latch. An at home visit wasn't available that day so I decided to check out the store. They got me in as soon as possible and her service provided immediate relief. Not only was Tracy knowledgable and highly-qualified, she also was the confident and calm presence I needed in that stressful time. Tracy and her staff patiently and expertly saw me through the nearly three and a half months that followed which included just about every breastfeeding trial imaginable. I'm so delighted to report that now I am breastfeeding my healthy 6 month old boy with complete ease- something I at one time didn't think was possible! I thought the store was a great resource for various items that I needed (or wanted) along the way. I found organic nipple creams, breast shells, nipple shields, nursing tanks and bras, and organic body products. More than that, I really benefitted from the drop in breast feeding group that meets weekly on Tuesdays. It was so encouraging to connect with other moms going through a similar experience and we all benefitted from hearing Tracy answer everyone's questions. I also brought my son in quite frequently for free weight checks. In hindsight, I do think it would have been helpful to have Tracy come to my home for a personal consultation. It would have helped me learn how to position myself in my own environment for successful breastfeeding. I saw in other reviews that people had a negative customer service experience. I always enjoyed interacting with Ebony and Maria and felt that they provided great service. When my daughter was born, it was a scary, exciting, tumultuous time. I was in way over my head just trying to handle each day, and we were having nursing problems to boot. Breastfeeding was very important to me, and before we even left the hospital, I knew we were having troubles. I mentioned that I would like to start pumping to my nurse and she said she would have someone take care of that. A gal from Nurturing Expressions showed up, helped me with all the paperwork, made the whole thing breeze! My insurance only covered a rental pump, and the gal made sure my dr wrote the right prescription to make sure it was 100% covered for the longest time possible. She also showed me AND my partner how to work the pump, which was super important because at that point everything was in one ear, out the other with me. It was super easy, and much needed. Returning the pump was also very simple, they gave me a courtesy call about a week before my insurance stopped covering the rental, so I was able to just pop in and return it. Since they had brought the pump to me, I hadn't seen the great shop until I returned the pump...nursing bras, baby carriers, pump accessories galore. I also discovered they have weekly lactation groups...I'm just bummed I didn't know about all the great stuff and resources earlier! I just attended my first group today, and was blown away by care and attention shown by the LC running it. I hired an LC to come to my house to help us, and it was $120 (well spent, but still...spendy) and I got just as much info for $10 at group. I would recommend any pregnant or nursing mama check this place out asap, especially if breastfeeding is not going so hot. read more

The first time I bought nursing bras here (1.5 years ago), I received phenomenal, customized help and the bra size ended up being super comfortable - way better than A previous experience I had for nursing bra fittings at Nordstrom. However, during my most recent, the associate simply measured me (and it didn't seem like a good measurement) and handed me one bra. I asked for additional assistance trying surrounding sizes and she seemed disinterested. I found the additional sizes myself. They have tons of sizes and styles to try - and I highly recommend a visit - but maybe call in advance to find an associate who has a lot of experience with helping with fittings. read more

Having a good attitude/demeanor is a crucial part of customer service especially when working with new moms. Just ordered the Medela Metro through Nurturing Expressions and was so pleased with the service. My insurance(Regence) completely covered it and it wasn't hard to apply for. The email that they sent me had all the necessary instructions for the forms. Because I am 8 months pregnant and am overwhelmed and have baby brain I didn't read the instructions fully and called them and talked to Savannah who was so friendly and helpful. As a first-time mom I had no idea that breastfeeding could be so difficult. The first night home from the hospital was rough and thankfully Tracy was able to visit on short notice. I went to the Seattle store front a couple of Saturdays ago, at the recommendation of one of the store employees I conversed with over the phone. The employee stated that it would be a good idea to look at all of the available pumps before making a selection. My intent was to use my insurance benefits to purchase a Medela pump. After research, I was highly interested in the Medela Sonata. I called my insurance company to verify my insurance coverage, and printed/filled out the form that was emailed to me by Nurturing Expressions (after filling out the online inquiry form). My insurance company covers Medela pumps up to $429.00. I drove to the Seattle store from Tacoma, and I found the staff in-store to be pretty unhelpful. I asked if I can order the Medela Sonata and I was told that it would take 3 weeks to get the pump in. I was shocked because the employee on the phone made it appear that it wouldn't be a lengthy or complicated process to obtain a breast pump. The store employee didn't really sell me on anything else, or offered me a rental option (I would have not had a problem paying for this out of pocket). Pretty shocking because the store looks pretty well stocked up on other lactation supplies. I left the store pretty dismayed, and called my insurance company to figure out an alternative. I used my option of purchasing a pump online through Amazon, and submitting a reimbursement claim. There is a nursing room designed to be a comfortable space for mamas to feed their baby and to pump. There's a changing station and infant scale that you can use at anytime! The staff is trained to assist you with weighted feeds so you can see how much your baby is transferring while breastfeeding. I rented a breast pump from Nurturing Expressions. This review is for rentals and not the lactation specialists, whom I did not work with. I worked with two different receptionists and they were both unfriendly and unhelpful. I rented the pump but they did not tell me I needed the tubing and system to go with it. When I asked before leaving they said they wished that I had told them that I needed it earlier because now they had to fill out more paperwork. Meanwhile I was sitting there with my 1 day old newborn and new to the whole thing and having to wait for them. so how was I supposed to know what I needed and what I didn't need? Wasn't it more o When billing issues came up with my insurance provider, another woman, yet again, made me feel like a complete idiot that I didn't know their provider codes, my coverage for specific model pumps and accessories. I ended up needing to call my insurance company a dozen times to get information that Nurturing Expressions should have taken care of. They misquoted me and charged my card before getting all the information needed to bill my insurance. Overall, a nightmare and not what a brand new parent needs to be spending time doing. Bottom Line: If you know what you're doing when renting a breast pump, feel free to rent here and expect poor customer service. If you're a new parent and want someone to really help you, or at the very least, NOT make you feel like a complete fool, find somewhere else to rent from. read more

I will never rent a breast pump again. I do not know the owner, but my bad experience comes from their billing department. I had an emergency c-section and I almost died. I spent over 2 months trying to heal from the trauma and trying to care for my preemie. For some reason my medical insurance did not renew despite my effort on filling out the forms. It was Nurturing Expressions who sent me a letter telling me that my insurance rant out and that I would need to return the breast pump. This startled me as I was supposed to have insurance but perhaps the insurance laws intercepted this continuance. I called the billing department and I asked them to back bill the insurance because I had just resolved my insurance gap. I was yelled at and the girl refused to back bill my insurance. I really needed the breast pump because I have a medical condition that requires me to use a breast pump. Why would this girl reject money? I returned the breast pump and went to Target to purchase a new one. Instead of back billing insurance as it was authorized by my insurance, the billing department never billed them. Now I have charges on my credit report. If only your billing department was nicer to new moms as giving birth and taking care of newborns, healing, and taking care of family is a lot to do. I didn't need to be yelled at by some young girl. My baby is now 14 months but I didn't know where to turn because each time I call Nurturing Expressions, the billing department treats me like a criminal. Can you please get in contact with me? I called to order a breast pump and faxed in the necessary paperwork to get the order started. After two weeks I called to find out if the breast pump had come in yet. The woman that takes care of the insurance billing told me that she did not have the required paperwork. She was very rude and not helpful at all. She had everything that she needed but she didn't think so. I called the insurance company and to make sure that I had done everything properly and they said yes. I called a week later and still nothing had been taken care of by Stephanie. I told her then that I wasn't going to be purchasing the breast pump with her company. She was very cold and rude once again and couldn't hang the phone up on me fast enough. I called Pacific Mother's Support (PMSI) and had the breastpump the very same day.
