This was our first time visiting this store, and wow -- we were so impressed! The staff and overall…read moreservice completely exceeded our expectations. I've been to several local baby stores, and this one easily stands out as the best. The store is bright, welcoming, and well-organized. Every single staff member we interacted with was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. We came specifically to check out strollers because we were overwhelmed with online reviews and needed to see them in person. The team here was amazing -- they patiently walked us through each option and gave clear demonstrations. What really stood out was that they allowed us to take the strollers outside for a real test run, complete with a demo baby. All we had to do was provide our IDs. This made a huge difference since testing a stroller on the sidewalk feels totally different than just pushing it around indoors. They have a great selection of strollers and car seats. I do wish there were more budget-friendly options, but overall, we had a fantastic experience and truly appreciated the staff's kindness and support!

I came in VERY overwhelmed after about 48 hours of researching too many options. One of the sales clerks (I didn't catch her name) immediately asked if I had questions and started to show me the one model I had been most interested in. She asked some thoughtful questions and ended up showing me a couple different options and even mentioned some upcoming models that aren't released yet that would be better suited for what I was looking for. I literally didn't buy anything and was there for maybe 10 minutes but had such a positive interaction and left feeling so much less confused and overwhelmed. Will definitely be back for some more shopping when it's closer to my due date!

The sales person said people get some really great deals at their store and they won't raise the price. That was awesome. I'm giving them a 3 star review because they did offer refunds for each issue and apologies, and acknowledge we make mistakes, I am just bothered it's repeated and over the course of a couple of years. We haven't had issues with clothes or shoes but specifically with either toys missing entire pieces repeatedly or broken toys. First it was a build a bear wheelchair that was clearly taped together then broke same day we bought it. Then it was a pink baby stroller that had a gem over a missing screw so it never worked right. Then it was a wooden toy set that had broken pieces and then missing pieces. And recently we bought a train set that didn't even have the correct train pieces in it. They offered refunds for all and apologies so I do want to make that known, I feel as though if you know this is an issue, this shouldn't keep happening. My child gets her hopes up every time to then have to take it away from her. We were able to give away the train set and decided to not take the refund as my partner felt uncomfortable going back in. Saying you're human and we make mistakes is true, yet the issue needs to stop happening. Attacking people for leaving honest reviews isn't professional and I see a lot of that in the owners response. Yes it can be nice if they contact you first but it's not required. Your apologies doesn't negate the experience especially if it's a repeated experience. If you shop here, please make sure you count, check and quality check the toys you are getting. Luckily we live very very close and hasn't been a huge inconvenience but it could be for a family that's visiting out of town or doesn't live close. I do want to add something since the owner responded and I feel as though it should be said, if you're putting the blame on your staff consistently, then maybe the staff needs to change because these mistakes are costing customers and ultimately money for the business. Wish you guys well!

Although it is primarily a consignment children's clothing store, you'll also find no shortage of wonderful, analog toys to plant the seeds of imagination in your little ones, in the hope that they'll sprout into clever, intelligent, fully-functioning, not-screen-addicted adults! This must be a conscious choice, because I could find nary an electronic device anywhere in the shop! Big kudos from me on that point alone! As for the clothing, let's just say, you're spoilt for choice. While some of the items are a little on the pricier side than I would like for a consignment shop, the quality of the clothing here is impeccable: clean, well-organized, and a healthy variety of sizes and styles. Everything you could need for any age, from newborn and toddler, up through the early grade school years: shirts, pants, dresses, hats, coats, shoes (TONS of shoes!), costumes, and all sorts of accessories! There's also a small selection of baby stuff in the back, including cribs, swings, and a host of different devices that I have no clue as to their function, but will assuredly be learning about them in the coming months (my wife is due next month)! In the last year, I have come to learn that shopping for a new child sucks, mostly because there is a dearth of places that have any quantity of clothing and accessories, outside of the big box stores, which I would prefer not to frequent, if possible. Thankfully, Beanstalk is here to pick up the slack, but you DO have to make an effort to get here during operating hours, particularly if you work during the week: Saturday (from 10am to 5pm) is your only real available option.

I have been shopping at Kids at Heart when I come to Portland on business for quite some time. I…read moredid again this weekend. I have experienced a pattern of somewhat unfriendly behavior by some staff working at this store before, but really thought nothing of it until a recent experience both in their store and outside of. I will add however that not all employees here can be blamed for the actions of others. I also just happened to attend a birthday party early Sunday evening for my daughter's friend. Another individual was there, who coincidentally owns a retail store in the same area as Kids At Heart, and was explaining after the party to a few of us how he bought some Needoh there and how he was texting other parents ahead of this party that they could find them there too. He went on to say that days later, the owner of Kids at Heart barges in to his store during business hours, in front of his own customers, and accuses him or buying Needoh from her store and selling them at his. Mind you, he is showing us video footage from his phone to back up how outlandish the Kids At Heart owners behavior was and I watched in confusion because he tried calmly explaining to her that it was simply coincidence and she didn't seem to care. What was tacky was how she had no visual proof of her claim, only some he said-she said story, then started going off about prices of items in his store and on his website while shouting some type of action against his store. I could only wonder if she was there for more competitive or territorial reasons, but then I would be guilty of assumption as well. This behavior was all over an extremely popular $5-$15 toy sold at hundreds of other stores, which I see listed on Walmart and Amazon for $30-45. Many of the parents have had to drive around for weeks hunting for these things in preparation of the party, time was running out, and this other business owner kinda saved the day for us by making sure every kid (and some parents) at this party had a Needoh, or ones to gift, so everyone could have the same experience as the birthday girl. The picture I took at this party with one of the same Needoh styles this man purchased from Kids at Heart (and other stores too) kinda proves my point because they clearly ended up at a personal event, not in his store. After hearing this story and seeing proof to back it up, I was shocked by the owner of Kids At Heart and her behavior. I am not one to typically review retail stores and I was not asked to leave this review by anyone involved, but I certainly felt it needed to be done since the owner of Kids At Heart acted in such a hostile way towards another business that supported them. Overall, my experience this weekend combined with the above - I now choose to look elsewhere for children's gifts (and so will a handful of other parents).

Recently, the customer experience has shifted in a way that feels noticeably less accommodating and more rigid. On one visit, I arrived just a few minutes past the posted consignment drop-off time--with a large bag of items--and was turned away without any flexibility. As a mom juggling kids and schedules, that kind of all-or-nothing response felt unnecessarily inflexible and not very aligned with the realities of the customers they serve. There was also a separate incident involving an item that was handled in a way that felt lacking in communication and follow-through, which added to the overall frustration. As someone who works in sales and customer service, I fully understand the importance of policies--but also the importance of discretion, tone, and making customers feel valued. Unfortunately, that hasn't been my recent experience. I hope there's a return to the more customer-focused experience this store used to provide.
