Came here early July in the afternoon for a haircut that I felt was complimentary. Over a month had passed and the only appointments I could make with the barber, Frank, is from 5 am to 7:30 am which is hard to get around. Last time I came I was 15 minutes "late" and he just said, "can't help you" and didn't bother to reschedule or anything. Just continued to cut the customer's hair and turn his back towards me which was rude. So if you've set up an appointment with Frank, he does a well job, but his overall demeanor and his availability are both limited and tedious. I would've liked to reschedule again but it's apparent that this won't be happening. read more

Liza, my hair stylist at Number 34 . I've known Liza practically for about 20+ years and she has been my stylist for the past 5+ years. I could go there looking like hell and come out feeling like a brand new woman! LOL Seriously though she is fabulous and very knowledgeable. She has had experience in her work for many years and the results to her work is well noted with her many clientele. If you need an assessment for how your hair is, you need to go with her too. You might not like what you hear if your hair is extremely damage, she will tell you the truth, but then again, she knows how to get it better. I get my highlights done by her and I always get compliments. She also does the Brazilian blow outs which I have gotten from her twice. The prices are reasonable considering that this Salon treats you like a queen. The place is like traveling to the past "post war ll". From the furnishings to the music. The owner is an expert in beard styling and haircuts, traditional and metro styles. He's also a gentleman. I started coming here when my regular stylist Nazy moved her station here. She is a gem. The shop in decorated in a striking art deco theme with a black, white and grey color palette. There are some old school barber chairs as well lending an authentic touch. Pros: Clean and hygienic environment and practices, skilled and experienced workers who share their knowledge pool to provide better services, diverse atmosphere with an even more diverse clientele, vegan/cruelty free products, excellent price for the quality of work you receive. Cons: Other salons will be ruined for you. I have been going to Ronnie for seven years now, and nobody else has touched my hair since. He's incredibly meticulous and takes his time to make sure that the job is done right, no rush jobs here. He has taken me from brown to purple to pink to blue to green to orange back to purple and then to SILVER. To silver! My hair is so incredibly dark and brass-pigmented and fussy, and he took me to silver. Every step along the way he's explained in detail, letting me know what was going to happen and how and what kind of effect it would have on my hair texture and how to keep it the softest possible. Even silver. He's never left my hair stringy or strawlike, people are shocked at how soft my hair still is after all it's been through. He has always made sure I've walked happy. The salon keeps updated on the best treatments and products possible, and puts a solid emphasis on vegan/cruelty free brands. The products used in the salon are the same brands that they sell; they trust and back their stuff a hundred percent. The GK keratin treatment is my personal favorite so far. Yes, even above Olaplex. Ask about it if you have trouble with frizz control. The other stylists/barbers are always incredibly kind and sweet to me, they are friendly with one another and warm and welcoming with each other's clients. I would happily trust any of them with my hair, and recommend all of them knowing that they passed Ronnie's incredibly high bar ;P The place is kept bright, clean, and comfortable, the music is always charming. It's just such a lovely place and it's so evident that Ronnie has poured nothing but affection into the salon, from the chairs to the shampoo to hand-choosing his coworkers. I heard about this place through my mom cause her dad went here a long time ago and I'm glad to see it's open again. I've been obsessed with the model Rocky Barnes for the past year and a half and love her perfect beach hair with highlights. The guy I normally see had increased his rate ridiculously so I came to one of the stylists at Number 34 very highly recommended by my best friend because they've known each other since high school and she's been doing her hair the last few years. This is my third time ever getting any color, so I'm still fairly new to all this but I explained to her that I wanted the full highlights , and showed her multiple photos from different angles of Rocky Barnes' hair to the stylist, she said she could do it. I had work immediately after my appointment, and was so focused on getting to work on time I didn't inspect the color of my hair. It wasn't until I got home that I noticed the bottom half of my hair was this awful ashy blonde practically gray so I did a full inspection and my hair did not turn out at all the way I wanted. I'm new to this whole coloring thing so I showed two of my other friends with cosmetology license pics of what I asked for, how my hair looked, & what to do. Both were shocked that she even let me walk out the salon and said that I should ask for a refund. So I did, and the stylist said that she doesn't do refunds because it was "fixable", she said that she accidentally left the toner in too long and only had to add a medium beige. Her next opening wasn't until tuesday of the following week, I was going to have to look like a wannabe Storm from Xmen for 5 days :( She said she could try asking one of the other stylists to see if they would help fix my hair, meanwhile she was asking I had emailed Ronnie (the owner) because the stylist that did my hair was pretty firm on the no refund. I emailed Ronnie how I was apprehensive about even letting her touch my hair again because she had already messed up once and showed him the pics of the hair that I wanted and how it came out and if he could issue a refund or even a partial refund. Ronnie said she's her own independent contractor and how the refund was up to her. (I didn't want to blow up his email with the photos of rocky's hair so I sent him a photo of the back of her hair and the front of her hair but from a different photoshoot) Ronnie said that the two pictures I sent look like they belong to two different heads and maybe I was confused on what I wanted. Almost passing blame on me, and even let's say I was "confused" on what I wanted, last time I checked I didn't ask for my hair to look freaking FIFTY SHADES OF GRAY. Ultimately the impression I received was that he didn't want any part of the conflict almost brushing me off. You're the owner and were zero help, thanks! Finally the stylist had a response for me about the other stylists and if one of them would help fix my hair sooner than her and would only do it if they charged me AGAIN for a full color. Not sure on this whole salon thing, but most places when a customer has an issue, you would think they as a whole would try to give that customer some sort of satisfaction. I wasn't about to pull $200 out of my a$$ for someone else to do it so I was out of solutions and ended up going back to the girl. Luckily she had a cancellation and was able to see me Friday. Remember all she had to do was add color, which she did but the color came out way too dark. So she said that she was going to put something on my hair to get the "warmth" that I wanted. I had no idea what she was putting on my hair but I do know it smelled BAD. She left it on long it seriously felt like an hour, I really can't say but it was long enough to work on two other clients and for me to fall asleep with my head lying on the sink. She said my hair was "resisting" that's why it was left on so long, when she finally rinsed it out & started blow drying my hair I could tell my hair was still super dark and not Rocky's. She even tried to convince me it looked "like the first photo" (also insinuating that the photos I showed her belonged to different heads), I literally was holding in the tears, and she could tell I wasn't happy & asked what I wanted and I told her "I just want to go home" and she offered to flat iron my hair but I seriously didn't want her to touch my hair anymore. So I left with my hair in an afro, my hair STILL not how I wanted and only half of my money back. I found out the chemical she had put on was dye remover, so basically my hair was over bleached, over toned, over dyed, and then left the dye remover on way too long now my hair is completely fried and need to chop off a few inches to get the dead off. My hair was finally on its way to being healthy and now it's completely f*cked. Safe to say I'm traumatized and never returning. read more

I LOVE Number 34!! As a woman one of the hardest things to find is a great hair dresser. Patsy at 34 is wonderful. I've been going to her for years, even before she started working here. I continue to commute and continue to be a loyal customer because I trust her expertise and I trust in her talent. She goes out of her way to always fit me in whenever I call. She is very detailed, she takes her time and I LOVE her eyes for perfection. I send all my sisters and friends to her. They are so friendly there it feels like I'm visiting friends every time I'm there. The place is cozy and intimate, not like the commercialized salons out there. Love love love Patsy! I've been coming to her for over a year now after finding Salon 34 on Yelp and then finding her on Instagram. She's super personable and beyond friendly. Going back a year now, she made me feel comfortable, we discussed what I wanted and she suggested an amazing cut and color which has since evolved a bit all due to her guidance. Great atmosphere at the salon, everyone I've encountered has been friendly! Very clean and neat. They carry Davines products at a great price and in my last visit saw they carry Jack Black products too. They always offer a drink, from coffee to alcoholic drink which is always a treat. read more

I rarely write reviews, but Ronnie from Number 34 definitely deserves one. I recently moved to the area from the East Coast. I was very sad to leave my prior stylist of 5 years, but a change of scenery can be good. I did research for a couple of weeks to see where I'd like to try out, and came upon Number 34. I am SO glad that I did. I got Ronnie's number and left him a voicemail, which he returned immediately letting me know that he was still accepting new clients and when his first available appointment was. I'm always nervous the first time I have an appointment with someone new (stylist, doctor, etc.), but I felt at home right away. Ronnie is very easy to talk to, personable, professional, and best of all knows about hair! I told him that I found him on Yelp and was really impressed with some of the haircuts and coloring he'd done (seriously, you should check out the pics on here if you haven't yet). I figured if he could handle coloring jobs like that, he'd be able to handle a haircut for me easily. By the end of the appointment, I felt like I'd already known him for quite some time. Since it was his first time working on my hair, Ronnie kept asking to make sure he was cutting it correctly, which I confirmed. He spent a while going over the cut, making sure everything was just so. It's great to come across someone that takes pride in what they do! My hair looked good, but you can never tell until you leave the salon and get a better feel for it. After leaving the salon, I was immediately impressed. This was the BEST HAIRCUT I'VE EVER HAD! My fears about having to find a new stylist were put to rest. My friends would say I'm picky (and would be right), but this was the first time I'd left a haircut and felt like there was nothing that needed to be improved. The price was very reasonable, too. I'd honestly expected it to cost more and was pleasantly surprised. I wish I could recommend Ronnie with six stars. He even sent a thank you card by mail after the appointment.
