Hurricane Milton caused me to evacuate from the West coast to Vero Beach. The day after the storm passed, the entire area was 75% without power, and this quick-service Chinese take-out was one of the very few businesses open. I got there around 7:30pm and they were slammed! As expected, they had a very limited post-hurricane menu, just a handful of chicken and vegetarian entrees, plus a few appetizers. I ordered a sweet and sour chicken, plus 2 orders of spring rolls. After a short 10-minute wait, I was off to my hotel with my hot food. So many thanks, but I most often avoid these type of strip mall Chinese joints, as the food is usually just 3 stars at best. First, they didn't complete my order When I pointed it out, they said I was lying. When I made them unpack the bag, it was short what I thought was missing. Then, no apology, only '"Oh. Wait a minute." Then 6 more people came in. They waited on them instead of me. 20 minutes later, when all the rest was getting cold, they brought out the missing dish. Then they repacked the bag, turns out they forgot to put back the fried noodles for the egg drop soup. I had to get out of there. I got the food home, it was cold and bland; discovered the missing fried noodles. The missing beef & vegetable dish that was replaced, was obviously only a partial order that was spruced up with broccoli to hide the missing beef, as if one of the 6 people had ordered the same dish, & they just added enough broccoli to fill 2 containers. Drove in from North Carolina this morning here for a few months working and didn't feel like cooking so I ordered $74 worth of food that came in a small bag. The food was tasteless and bland. I walked into the place and the first thing I noticed was that the decor was a little upgraded from typical Chinese restaurant decor. My wife was busy behind the counter and didn't even realize I walked in until I moved a few things around and she heard the noise. The ambiance is okay for a Chinese restaurant. They have, I believe, six tables for people to sit down and eat, but they do not deliver. I ordered a chicken chow mein. I chose to eat my food at the restaurant and when I opened up the container, the food was presented in a typical Chinese way. It looked wonderful and tasty. However, I didn't find it to be wonderful or tasty. Instead, it was typical fast food Chinese that you would find in South Florida or Central Florida. It needed more salt cooked into the food to enhance the flavor. The egg roll was good, better than most restaurants. It was very hot and crispy, which is exactly the way I like it. John was very nice and accommodating, but not too trusting. I inquired as to why they don't deliver, and it appears that they were robbed back in 2012 or 2013 by someone who lived not far from the restaurant. After that incident, they decided not to offer delivery again. It's the same old typical story, where one person's stupid and idiotic move ruined it for everyone else who wanted delivery. I've been to pretty much every Chinese/oriental take out spot there is in vero. Just tried this place last night and wish I had been coming here. Their egg rolls weren't frozen because they were crispy and seasoned! It surprised the hell out of me. Husband and I got bourbon chicken..one with lo mein and the other with the pork fried rice. Bourbon chicken actually tasted good, had a thick sauce with flavor compared to the others we've tried. They included sautéed onions which we very much enjoyed since we don't get that anywhere else. We also had a side of crab rangoons which is the reason for 4 stars. They were a little dry and over fried for my liking but husband dipped them in the sauce that came with the meals and said they tasted like funnel cakes. I guess. I ordered the vegetable Mei Fun and added steamed Tofu for $1 extra. I also got a pint of Won Ton soup. While both had a good flavor, the Mei Fun was freshly prepared and served piping hot. I left feeling very full. The food was a little slow coming out but it was worth the wait. It is centrally located in a strip mall on US HWY 1 in Vero Beach. There are only 4 sit down tables and they will bring your food out to you. Of course most of their business is carryout and they seem to be thriving. While most Chinese take-out restaurants are mediocre at best, #1 Wok scores only slightly higher based on the food quality, cost and the convenient location of the restaurant. read more

This is a convenient location near Publix on US1 and 12th St. I placed my order for Beef & Scallop, Chicken & Broccoli, and veggie spring rolls. As far as amount of protein goes, the Chicken & Broccoli had more meat. The Beef and Scallops is more of mixed vegetables, beef and a little bit of scallops. As far as flavor goes, the beef dish was great. Veggie rolls were what you'd expect, hot, crunchy, lots of veggies. Both dishes were tasty and I didn't get that food coma feeling afterwards. The thing I enjoyed most was the rice. Yes, I know it's white rice but not all white rice is the same. I've had some rice from a few other places that were dry. I hate to leave such low feedback. 3 weeks ago we ordered a quick bite since we were all not feeling well and I didn't want to cook (no shame). We ended up ill afterward but I thought maybe it was just the impending virus. Last night we tried it one more time, and sure enough we both ended up sick to our stomach. I'm not sure if it's the food, the grease, or what. But, something isn't settling well with our stomachs. I tried asking for an order of extra veggies on my meal and they refused to do so, I wouldn't have minded paying extra either. I wonder if some of the basic meals are made up and prepared ahead of time. Either way, I'm rating this restaurant a 1 star. read more

This is the worst Chinese food ever! We order a quart of special fried rice.. After sharing it out there was 4 shrimp and they smelled like they were about to turn. Our order of chicken wings only had 4 whole wings (drum and wing connected) which is a joke. The order of ribs was sufficient in the amount but they were dry and flavorless like the rice... When called and explained our concern they screamed at us explaining there was 15 shrimp and 8 wings... Our order was so upsetting but out of starvation we ate the chicken and ribs and threw out the rice... That was my first and last time going there.... Number 1 Wok is okay. The food is not as flavorful or exciting as Plumtree. I do enjoy the fact that you can get vegetarian dishes in a small size at Number 1 Wok. Sometimes I don't feel like eating or paying for the obligatory large size at Plumtree. That's where Number 1 Wok comes in. The service is quick and efficient, and the prices are affordable. If the food had more flavor and more pizazz it would receive a better rating. read more

My wife and I come here at least once a week. I love the krab Rangoon and the egg role ate good to. Food is fast out of the kitchen. The resin for the 3 stars is becouse of the kid that trys the counter. This kid is outright rud. And he does not charge the right amount at times. Other the that the place is great. As the saying goes, three strikes and your out. Sadly, this is my fourth visit in a month and most definitely my last. I had great hopes for Number 1 wok when I discovered it a year ago and unfortunately they just can't or wont fix the problems that I as well as others continue to encounter. The food was always very good. Lately, not so much. Very greasy and salty. If I ask for an item to please be cooked well done or very crispy the response I've continue to get is.....oh, you want it burned. No, not burned. Crispy and well done. In fairness, when I request no onion, I never get onion. I just dont appreciate the snicker and bad attitude. Which brings me to my biggest complaint. The young boy at the counter is surly, rude, impatient, and if you don't watch him carefully he will always overcharge. When it's brought to his attention and an adult(I think it's the mom)steps in he will never apologize. This has happened to me and others several times. I understand that he is a kid and that's why I've been so patient but as a customer I expect mistakes such as overcharging to be immediately corrected. So far that has not happened. I've heard both him and the mom on the phone taking orders and they are both a bit rude. Perhaps their business is doing well enough to not care enough to fix some problems. If that's the case then it's a shame. I guess only time will tell if customers like me who like to shop locally stop coming to this business and they start losing money that they will start paying attention. read more
