I frequented many restaurants in San Francisco's Chinatown. Those eateries are my benchmarks for good American- style Chinese. Bamboo Court in Sebastian meets all those marks. Sesame chicken is light on sugar, heavy on flavor, perfectly spicy hot, served on a bed of crunchy well cooked vegetables, all resting in a sauce equal to any served in S.F. The fried rice includes a delightful amount of what appears to be Char Sui--Chinese fermented red bean curd BBQed pork. The Double-Cooked Pork has the right balance of pork and perfectly cooked vegetables, correctly low salt, and just right amount of chiles. First time here, since moving from California and eating in San Franciscos Chinatown, I was worried it wouldn't be nearly as good. I was wrong.....this spot here, can compete with any place from back west. I wanted no veggies in my dishes that I ordered and they were very accommodating and had zero issue with doing it, prices seem normal, taste was mighty good and portions weren't a bad size at all. Several years ago, the Bamboo Court could be relied upon for its savory Chinese menu. One of my favorite dishes was shrimp fried rice and egg rolls; sometimes, I'd order the lo min and crab Rangoon. For the most part, the food was what one could expect from a strip mall restaurant whose primary customers asked for take out. It's a good thing...the ambience here is early nothing. Recently, it appears the owners/cooks have taken "fast food" to mean exactly that - throw something together in a wok and hope it turns out right. Well, it doesn't. The fried rice is gooey and tasteless. The egg rolls were soggy and the crab Rangoon was cooked too long. The rice dish has nothing but yellow rice and a few sprigs of bean sprouts - which adds to its tastelessness. Unfortunately, although this restaurant is close to our home, we've paid our last visit there. There are other Chinese restaurants within 4-5 miles of our home which cook better food with better taste - at a cheaper price.
