On this night I attended a chef competition which was interactive, professional, and educational. The chef competitions are very entertaining: two chefs face off, "Iron Chef" style, provided a mystery box with ingredients they must utilize in the dishes they create. On this night, three courses were served: appetizer, entree, and dessert. The tickets are reasonably priced considering you receive a three-course meal and entertainment. I considered it a meal and entertainment certainly worth $150. Drinks are sold separately. Seating is first come, first served, but according to the section your purchase: first-row counter seating and second row table seating. The pricing is different for both. Honestly, because this is an interactive and engaging dinner, in my opinion either section is value seating as you'll be walking throughout the room in and around the chefs counter, cooking stations, and plating stations (as you can see from the photos the different areas flow seamlessly). During the competition you watch the chefs prepare each meal from beginning to end with support from their sous chef. You are served each dish as it is prepared and after each serving you are instructed to score the meals according to taste, presentation, and creativity. You're able to walk about while the chefs prepare, cook, and plate their food. The entire time they are also engaging the audience. At the end of the third course, you determine a winner. From start to finish, including eating, the competition lasts approximately 1.5 - 2 hours. Overall, this was a fun experience and well worth it.

The cooking class was downstairs which actually is a con but I'll address that later. One of the staff directed all the participants where to go. Upon entering the cooking space, we greeted each other, put on an apron and a name tag. The stations were prepared in advance with all the materials we would need and the right about of portions. Chef Santiago demonstrated how to cut the herbs and garlic. The directions for the food were placed at each station and the chef walked around helping everyone. The menu consisted of: Tomato flatbread with manchengo cheese. Potato croquettes with saffron aioli Pancakes with a flan glaze Chorizo egg bake Everything was delicious. Cons: The website did not mention this class is not suitable for people with mobility difficulties. I use a cane and had a hard time going up and down the stairs. While we waited for class to begin we were never offered anything to drink, not even water. During class we had to pay for coffee which I felt should have been complimentary. The bathroom downstairs is labeled wheelchair accessible but I asked how is anyone in a wheelchair supposed to get down the stairs to even utilize this facility. There wasn't an elevator or lift to accommodate patrons with special needs. I would go back to Hudson Table for their cooking competition as that's held upstairs.

Not only is their sandwich shop adorable and full of delicious things. But they also catered my wedding. First and foremost, the food was delicious. Everything was fresh and served at good temperature. Dozens of our guests raved, and everything I got a chance to taste was exactly what we wanted. We did a wine/beer cocktail hour with passed and stationed hors d'oeurves, and a buffet dinner. Hors d'oeurves included two kinds of crostini (goat cheese/fig/pistachios/honey, and fava bean/prosciutto/pecorino), an artichoke dip, mini lobster rolls, and okra corn fritters with garlic buttermilk dip (which we barely got, as everyone ate them all). So delicious. For the buffet we did a salad, four veggies, and two entrees. Salad was a spinach salad with strawberries, feta, and pecans. Vegetables included cabbage and beet buttermilk slaw, sweet corn pudding, pimento cheese potato gratin, and skillet green beans with shallots. Mains were skirt steak with parsley sauce and pork tenderloin with Madeira and fig gravy. The skirt steak was by far the best, that and the corn pudding. So, so, so delicious. And beyond that, for the business end of the catering Molly and Josh are a great team and extremely easy to work with. We had been nervous about finding a caterer to handle food, rentals, setup, changeover from chapel seating to tables in the courtyard where we had the ceremony/reception, etc. etc. But Molly and Josh covered everything and put us at ease. Molly handles the business end, selecting the menu, negotiating prices, contracting rentals, and Josh works with the staff for day-of setup and service. We had a set price per head that we wanted to stay within, and Molly helped us find ways to adjust the menu, rentals, bar and staffing to help us stay as close to budget as we could. They don't upsell, and respected what we were looking for in terms of menu, budget, and look and feel. We had an outdoor wedding at Akwaaba Mansion in Bed-Stuy, and Molly and Josh came for site visits, drew out a map of how the tables and seating would work, and worked with my day-of coordinator (a friend) to revise the plan the day before the wedding, when we had to tent the courtyard at the last minute. The service staff on the day of were so sweet -- young, funky, relaxed and playful, and helped without being weirdly invisible, overly stiff, or invasive.
