Had been having good services with them, but after the last couple, I think I'm done. Had a fuel induction in August, had a $10 coupon for it. Gave it to my advisor at the beginning as it said on the coupon...and they forgot to take it off. Its $10, so I didn't make a big deal of it, but it is what it is. And coupled with the incident below, I've decided enough is enough. Had service this past week. They tell me at check-in that my mileage is at the point where they start recommending a transmission flush. I had the money, so I decided to do it. A couple of hours later, my advisor says it's ready, but my car is a CVT, so it doesn't need a transmission flush. You'd think he would've known that. Apparently, they just upsell everything and anything. Also, my tires supposedly measured at '7', when at my August service, they measured '4' and '5'. Tire tread depth doesn't increase. Makes me wonder if any of the other work was actually performed. read more

I was on the hunt for a specific car to take advantage of the federal used EV credit ending Sept 2025 and was having a really hard time finding dealerships who knew about the program to sell me a car. I found the car at another Nucar dealership and interacted with 3 other locations who couldn't help me before reaching out to North Kingstown. The sales reps and the manager were all very helpful. They had the car transferred over (my sales rep, Mike, personally went and picked it up), and had it ready for me the next day. They gave me a fair price for my trade in. They had the time of sale report (for the EV credit) ready for me promptly, all the paperwork was done quickly. I'm waiting on my plates and 2nd key but I'm confident there will be no hiccups there as they've handled everything else perfectly thus far. read more

I want to update the service part of my last review. The best advice I can give you is if, whatever you need done, is going to be covered by a warranty, by all means go here. If you have to pay for anything, run like Hell from here. On a Monday afternoon, I got in my vehicle and turned on the AC. The fan started making a terrible racket and then just died. I was hoping this would be a warranty issue so I called Nucar and made an appointment for Saturday. I dropped my car off on Friday night. Apparently there was a recall on my car so they were going to do that as well. The part that I thought was pretty cool was they text you what repairs need to be done and you can accept or decline them. My text said I needed $2500 worth of repairs... Excuse me??? I was told the HVAC fan that died wasn't covered because some animal got in there and ate the filter and made a nest in the Fan. Ok...Their quote for replacing the fan was $526.49. They also wanted to replace the filter at $110.47 and another $299.95 for disinfect service HVAC box cleaner and freshener. That's $936.91 total. Oh Hell no! Let's see what Amazon has. HVAC fan costs between $90 and $130. Wow! Let's see what the filter is. $8 to $27. So if I buy the expensive parts, I've spent $157. Now let us check out YouTube on installation. Must be real difficult to warrant such a high price. Step 1 - Push in 4 tabs under glove box and remove cover. Seems easy enough. Must get real difficult now. Unplug fan. Ok... Remove 3 screws (they must be made of gold). Take fan out... Uh... Where's the difficult part. Put in new fan and screw back in. Plug new fan in. Replace plastic cover... Ok... Maybe 15 minutes of work here... $526.49 minus $130.00 for part equals $396.49 labor??? for 15 minutes... Dude better be wearing a tux. On to the filter. Open glovebox and remove support. Push in plastic tab and glovebox will swing down. Push in plastic tab where the filter is and remove plastic cover... Remove old filter and put in new one... Replace plastic cover, attach plastic tab and support back on glovebox... Done... $110.47 minus $27 for filter so $83.47 for 5 or 10 minutes worth of work... Don't even get me started on the disinfecting... Anyone have a can of Lysol and about 3 minutes??? Can you say Rape??? I thought you could. The funny and sad thing about this whole ordeal is after I left the dealership, for sh*ts and giggles, I hit the fan button. Guess what's working after that nest was removed??? read more

I bought a new Rav4 from this dealership. I had free would changes for 25,000 miles and have continued with them (I am now at 37,000). I had purchased the extended warranty. My air condition lost Freon so I brought it to them. They are the greatest. At first they told me that the compressor is not covered but when I pointed out that I had the extended warranty, they did the whole job under warranty. They are the greatest. I bought a used Rav from this dealer end of 2023. I havent had any issues until recently, where a light went off- PKSB malfunction. I brought it in and was told that the bumper would need to be taken off for repair, but that is not what upset me. They brought me back to view the vehicle and showed me my bumper, which is apparently attached with zip ties. I have not had this car serviced ANYWHERE but at this dealer, so either this car was purchased from them that way or someone placed them during one of their services. I won't name the person helping me because it probably isn't their fault, but I inquired four times about the zipties. They avoided answering me three times, and when I asked again directly, just gave me a "I don't know." I understand that there is no proof that they had anything to do with the zip ties. As the owner of the vehicle, I know that I have not had the vehicle serviced anywhere else. I'm disappointed in the integrity of this place and after this last repair will be taking my business elsewhere in the future. read more

Dropped car off for scheduled service replacement of warranty replacements. Said would be completed early. 2 pm called, on hold after 3 calls for over 45 minutes. Others who answered phone did not want to follow up. I was finally told "should" be done by 5. Thats is 9 hours, i live in CT. I waited 3 hours and finally took an Uber home. Never had a good honest experience with their sales people. First, their used truck inventory is the worst of any place. Second, the people have an attitude that they don't have to go out of their way as they know they have the market cornered southern RI. They don't care if you buy or don't buy. This review is for the service department. While the customer service was friendly, the result of my service was detrimental. Came in for a low tire pressure warning. They took out a nail and "plugged" it when they should have patched it from the inside. My tire was completely flat in 2 days and I was stuck in Maine on a Sunday with nothing open. Now I need all 4 tires replaced costing me several hundreds of unnecessary dollars. Which I will go elsewhere for. This place couldn't care less about their customers and clearly do a half ass job and charge ridiculous amounts. read more

Purchased my car, fully paid, on April 23rd. Messaged my saleman Tim, who during the purchasing process was more than helpful, that my back seat headrests were missing. We are now almost 3 months later since letting him know of this and still have little to no news on the headrests. All communication is initiated by me to him. He's stated multiple times that he will get back to me in another day or two and never does. He had claimed multiple times that he had purchased the headrests, and yet again, 2.5 months later, I have no headrests. I am starting to assume they are being shipped via a horse and buggy. This review is necessary for all to read when visiting this location. This was a complete let-down. Excited to find a used car that I love.......my husband attempted to negotiate over the phone within reason. The salesman went silent for a bit and went to retrieve his boss "M". The response from "M" clearly showed a lack of friendly customer relations (keeping in mind that my husband is very professional on the phone). "M" turned down our offer and my husband said he would relay this response to me. We slept on it that night and decided to buy the car at their offer and tried to call front desk the next morning when open. The very friendly receptionist relayed my phone call message to "M" and the original salesman so that I would get a call back. I hour later @ 9:00 am, no call back. So, I decided I would text the other sales manager that helped us with the test-drive a few nights prior. I recieved a response that said......"someone put a deposit on it already". I now knew that that were not going to sell us the car because "M" got his feelings hurt (oh boy) I grew up in Rhode Island and everyone knows the history here about negotiating a car. These are a younger new crop of salesmen that don't have a thick skin or know what they are doing. well, the car is still sitting on the lot and in their website for sale. For the sake of "the principal" of the matter, we decided to move forward and look elsewhere......even if they did call us back we will not do business there.....EVER! Very poor customer relations!!! I purchased a 2020 Toyota Highlander Platinum in March of 2020.  I selected this model during COVID with the need to be able to tow a trailer while traveling. When I tried to have a hitch installed in turns out you can't install a hitch on this model due to the hatch opening sensor which seems like a pretty significant design flaw. The resolution is to cut a hole in the bumper, which seems like a bad idea on a lease car. After getting no resolution on the inability to tow, I accepted my fate and decided to just live out the 3 year lease. Nearing 10k miles I made an early morning appointment via the Tarbox Toyota online scheduling tool. Upon arrival I happened to ask about how long this would take and was advised 2-3 hours. I reminded the Service Advisor I had an appointment and his response was that there are no actual appointments for routine service, even though they advise customers to schedule them on the web site or by phone. He said "it's first come first served." and "the scheduling thing isn't real." So it seems I was misled during my purchase process about the Highlander Platinum's ability to tow a vehicle and then I was misled about scheduling service and simply expected to spend hours waiting even though I had a confirmed appointment.  Beware. Shady sales. Shady service. Never Tarbox again. read more

bought a new Toyota Corolla Cross XLE a little over a year ago here. It was a terrible experience and ruined my excitement about my 1st new car buying experience. I will never buy another vehicle here again, probably will never buy another Toyota, and I tell anyone to steer clear of this place. The salesman was Joe P. He was very deceptive! I made mistakes d/t it being my 1st time buying a new car and I had to buy a car quickly as the service dept. had just charged me $2000 to fix my car and then told me it wasn't worth it to fix anymore d/t the rust. I was already set on what I wanted when I went to buy and I let Joe P. know. Big mistake! I know now to not let them know anything, keep it all close to the chest until I'm ready to wheel and deal, and to ask everything before agreeing on anything. And I'll never, ever finance through the dealer too. Most of the time one can get a better rate elsewhere. Anyways, he said it had to be ordered and it would be about 1 1/2 months before it was in. I put a deposit down and waited for it to come in. While I was waiting I began searching for another dealer who might have one in stock. I then texted the sales manager and asked if my deposit was refundable and she asked why was I asking? I told her I was shopping around. A week or so after that Joe texted stating my car was in, that it came in early. Now I realize it was because he was scared that he would lose my sale. My car that I put a deposit on was to be a new 2024 white Toyota Corolla Cross XLE. When I arrived 2 days later to finalize the deal I was exhausted as I worked all night as a nurse. Joe P. Was waiting at the door for me, I was not shown the vehicle. Instead I had papers shoved in front of me and then was rushed in to talk to the finance guy (who talked me in to a useless warranty -don't purchase it - it's so useless). I asked why did my car come in so early and was just told that they got it from another dealer BUT the very first deceptive item, HUGE DECEPTIVE ITEM, that I noticed was that my new care had 353 miles?! What?! A new car?! Unbelievable! The credit guy had tried to gloss over that but I noticed the mileage on the computer screen and asked what it was?! I was so pissed but nobody was listening to me and I couldn't think straight because I was so tired and I definitely was being railroaded. I then was told by Joe that they were only giving me $2000 for my 2010 Toyota Matrix which had a Kelly blue book value of $3600+ for acceptable condition. BUT the biggest, worst deceptive item that was withheld from me by Joe was revealed only after signing all the paperwork and when I was trying to add the vehicle to my insurance... it was a 2023, NOT A 2024!!! My deposit was on a New White 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross XLE and that was my car, the one I planned on buying, the one I thought I was getting, the one that I thought had arrived when Joe P. stated "your car came in early"! And then, when I got in the car, it had fingerprint smudges on the display, was missing a floor mat, and had white goop all around the sunroof!!! Nothing was ever done to rectify this big mess, nothing at all was done correct this mess and to right these very deceptive tactics used by the car salesman Joe P. The manager wanted to talk on the phone but when I stated that email was better as I sleep during day for work nobody listened and nothing was done about! The manager gave up after like 2 calls, never emailed as I requested, and just gave up without making anything right. They got away with selling a year older, used vehicle as a new 2024!!! It was the worst experience ever, so very deceptive, and it just made me feel miserable anout the entire experience and miserable about the car! Joe P. definitely took advantage of me because I was a woman, because I went alone, and because I was naive in the buying process. I will never, ever buy from this dealer again and I have decided to look at Honda's and Subaru's when I buy again in 3 years! I brought my Tacoma in last week because the front end was making a loud humming noise on the highway. When I checked in with service, I had the pleasure of working with Tayla. Very pleasant and professional. I got a call later that afternoon and I was told it was the front wheel bearings and it wasn't a very cheap fix($2200). Luckily, I had a mechanical breakdown policy through my insurance company. Tayla reached out to them after being on hold for 30 minutes and within a couple days had an appointment set up for an adjuster to come see my car. A few days later, I dropped my Tacoma back off but Tayla was off that day. I then had the pleasure of dealing with Andrew. He was also very courteous and professional. Andrew and Tayla had set me up with a loaner car from Tarbox why the repair could be completed. The two of them worked effortlessly to have this repair covered, even though my policy does not cover wear and tear items. All in all they got the job done! I am very grateful for the hard work they both did to handle my repair. Truck was washed and vacuumed upon pickup which is always a plus. Some dealerships charge for a wash. Tacoma sounds great now. If you are going to buy a Toyota, I would highly recommend new car Tarbox. I have never had a bad experience there. Every service advisor goes above and beyond. Highly recommended!! OUT OF TOWNERS BEWARE. They will take total advantage of you in time of desperation. Two year old battery in my Highlander died on the road as we entered RI, driving from Florida. It was warrantied for 7 years. Got a jump from local police and drove directly to Nucar Toyota. Took me right in, told Nick (advisor) it was two year old, and swapped for a new battery. At payment time I was told that Nucar would not honor the Toyota warranty and I would have to go to the selling Toyota dealer in Florida. I had to pay full to get my vehicle back...and Nucar kept my core. Because I had no core, the Florida dealer could not reimburse me according to the warranty agreement. Florida dealer tried contacting Nucar and Nucar never returned the call nor would they return my calls. I called the Regional Toyota offices in RI and then Florida. Apparently its a dealer decision. So much for Regional...what they good for? Finally, the Florida service manager after getting nowhere, offered to pay me out of his personal paycheck. I chose not to take hundreds of dollars from his family. Nucar Tarbox Toyota did me wrong. We go to RI several times a year, and will never use this dealer or recommend them, never! I even question regional Toyota's business policy. So much for nation wide coverage. read more

My wife and I have purchased four vehicles from Tarbox Toyota with the last two being under the "NUCAR" ownership. The sales representative Joe Petit is outstanding and I subsequently referred to him a total of three more family members and friends whom purchased from him. The most recent of which is my nephew who purchased his very first new Toyota (Corolla}. After having the vehicle for two weeks. he lowered the front passenger window and it went halfway down not to go back up or down. He went to NUCAR Toyota the same day and spoke with Jeff Diaz-service writer who handled the problem and offered a rental (loaner) while it was being repaired. It all worked out in the end but he was told that this was being covered under warranty but the window was forced down stretching the cable and should not be covered under warranty. This was the first time my nephew even lowered the front passenger window. I somehow have a bad taste in my mouth that he was even told this after two weeks of ownership. He is now upset that whatever may happen in the future, he will face an issue. I think that better customer service skills are needed in this case. This was not abuse and the window was not forced down (power window, not crank). I know there are many abuses by customers pertaining to warranty expectations, but this was certainly not the case. the car is repaired, he did get a loaner vehicle and all is well, however I feel that it was not handled properly and both my nephew and I are offended that we both were told that the window was "forced down" . I hope that this is not an indicator of things to come under this new ownership group... I have never had an issue with the outstanding folks in service in the past. I recently bought a car from Nucar Tarbox. Overall, it was a good experience. Their people were professional and nice, and it was a straight-forward, not-drawn-out process. I called (several times) on the phone about a particular Prius in stock. I asked a ton of questions, and the internet sales person (Andrew Potter) was very helpful. I ended up deciding to buy a different Prius (coming in the next day), but did all he paperwork that afternoon. I called at least 6 to 8 dealerships. Half were charging an up-charge because of the lack of cars. Tarbox was not. While the downside is a slightly higher price than in normal times, the upside is an easy, straight-forward, no-games buying experience. This is the MSRP - and the price you'll pay. Why four stars instead of five? Couple things... I had appointments twice - once when I took a test drive and once when I picked up the car. Both times, the sales person (Kyle Wood) had other customers with him. I don't blame him, and he was very pleasant to work with, but it was not a hands-on, five-star experience. (It also worked fine given that I knew what I wanted.) My wife bought a Subaru a couple of years ago, I was impressed that the sales guy took time to sync the phone and show us a few features of the car. Not the case with this car (which may be the dealership's practice). Ironically, the books/paperwork comes with a blank customer delivery checklist.... They should skip handing it out if they're not going through the motions. Also, I had to wait at least an hour until a finance person was available. Again, another decent person (Jess Camp) to work with. Kudos to the General Manager (Ray Clements) for noticing my long wait and offering me a Toyota hat for the inconvenience. (I will wear it proudly.) One could really have been miffed at the wait and modest service and easily given this a 3-star review, but gestures like that and nice staff made this an overall positive experience. read more

What an incredible disappointment. We made an appointment drove over an hour, confirmed our appointment and we get there and after almost 20 minutes they no longer have the car. The guy was very rude and aggressive. Telling me by law must let someone else have first dibs if they walk in the door. He was very loud and basically yelling at us. And then has the nerve to say how serious are we about buying a car. Really? We made an appointment and drove over an hour. You're a dumb ass. Don't waste your time it's cheesy and old school high-pressure sales tactics from the 80s. Don't waste your time going here. Let me add again. The guy was an absolute dick to us. A Dick. Awful customer service throughout the entire car buying process. If not for the shortage in hybrid vehicles I never would have bought from this dealer. SHOP ELSEWHERE IF POSSIBLE. From the very moment I put a deposit down, they had such poor communication and terrible customer service. No update on when the car was coming in. The point of contact which I was given had someone else's name on the VM and never returned my calls. No one knows what's going on there. They made multiple mistakes that could have been avoided if they had communicated. Very incompetent and made the process of buying a car unnecessarily stressful for me. They don't care about their customers once they have made a sale. They completely dropped the ball on getting my new car registered. I was told they would call when plates/registration were ready...... I never received a call. The temp plate expired. No initiative or concern on their part. I payed for my 2022 tacoma in full the night I picked it up. The salesman wrote on the paperwork that I was taking out a loan. This mistake delayed my paperwork getting to the Registry of Motor Vehicles in a timely fashion, so I was left with an unregistered truck. My insurance agent called me and instructed me to park the truck Until the issue got resolved. I was stuck with a brand new truck that was paid for in full that I could not legally drive. I called the salesmen who did not return my call. I called general manager, Anton Dushi, and he said he said there was nothing he would do to help me. Had they provided me with a loaner car for a few days until the problem got resolved they would have had me as a loyal customer. Yesterday my wife and I stopped in to test drive a sienna van in hopes of beginning the process of finding a larger vehicle that will work for our growing family. We had a great experience with a new sales person named Rich Morra. Very courteous, respectful, knowledgeable, and a great conversationalist as we test drove a 2019 Sienna. I wish I could just review him and give him 10 stars, but alas I can't because this is about Tarbox. After spending 15 minutes with Rich we both felt comfortable and ready to start talking about our options to move towards making a purchase in the near future--wether that meant a new van or possibly a pre-owned van. He then began the process of running numbers on our trade in vs the cost of the new van and showed us the (small) used inventory. He made us very comfortable as we waited a short time for the numbers to come back. Soon we were joined by "Howard" who we were told was the sales manager. He muscled his way to the table and immediately proceed to talk down to us, talk at us, and rudely/dismissively tell us the sticker price of the new van vs our trade in-as he pointed out that even with a 10K down payment (that he assumed we didn't have) it was clearly a "stupid" idea to buy an expensive new van due to the high cost of monthly payments. Every question we had about current financing vs our past experience with Toyota (we have a 2 year old RAV4 bought on 0% Toyota financing that we were interested in taking advantage of again if possible) was met with condescending tough guy responses about "the world we live in now" as we were assured that what he was telling us was "the way it is" and there were no other "smahhht" options. He then proceeded to try to sell us on the idea of leasing a van due to the lower monthly payment with absolutely no effort to actually explain the details of the lease plans they offered---just assuring us that he leases and it is "the way to go" --all while talking at us as though we were children with no money and no concept of what it actually means to buy a new car so it wasn't worth actually taking the time to explain the details. As I said, we currently have a 2 year old RAV4 that we bought brand new from Smart Toyota in Madison WI--a great place to buy a car. At any rate, even if we had cash to buy a van outright yesterday, there is no way I would have ever given this guy a dime after the way he treated us. In fact, I've been bringing my rav to Tarbox for service ever since moving to NK a year and a half ago even though it was twice as expensive as other places because I wanted our service records to be complete and Toyota certified, but I can tell you that as it sits now I will never take another car to Tarbox no matter what the scenario, and I sure as hell will never buy a car there. During a time when many dealerships are charging over sticker prices, this was not the case. He wasn't buying a high end expensive car but, was still received the best service. I have been going to Tarbox since 2000 and I've owned four Toyotas. Lately, today they wanted to charge me $200 for an oil change and two lightbulbs. I thought that was excessive. They seem to have gotten very greedy. They just lost the business of four cars. read more

Bait and Switch. I was in contact with the salesman (Andrew Wallace) and I told him I was driving over an hour to test drive the 2020 Toyota Tacoma Pro and I would be there at 5:30. I arrived and was told it sold in the morning. The manager and the other salesman at the door were whispering so the other customers couldn't hear what was going on because they too were being told the same thing! This is a bait and switch tactic to get you to the lot to show you what they do have in stock. It is a very widely used tactic and it is dis-graceful. The sales guy sucked... did not listen.. asked to see used camrys and he continued to show me corollas. Drove like an imbecile... acted like he was ten... asked if I had planned on buying a car that day... I did from Route 44Toyota where I bought virtually the same car at the correct deal. When he refused my offer he snatched the offer sheet and mopped away mumbling about how serious I was? Really... the guy was a total turd... the Camry has been in their lot for over five month... sure it's still there... the sales manager was equally charming... he had the tact of a wounded monkey, and a similar intellect. I sell for a living too but I'm successful at it... these hacks would have trouble selling water to a man on Fire .. your commercials are entertaining but the reality of the buying experience misses the mark completely. If I could award Zero Stars I would have. I stopped at five (5) dealerships that day... two had the car I wanted Route 44 Toyota is a total 180 in terms of the way I was treated and I now have a great car as a result... I bought the car for the offer I had suggested that caused the tarbox idiot to claim "no way" and storm off like a little kid... with his offer sheet snatched out of my hand!! Had my oil changed and fluids checked. Had all three wipers changed. Got there around 8a and they were already busy. All customers were wearing facemasks and social distancing, so that made things a little less anxious. Took just over an hour. Staff were pleasant. read more

I will never do business with any Tarbox brand again. We called and scheduled an appointment to buy a used truck, a specific used truck. For two days prior to the appointment and at 8am the morning of the appointment the salesman called us to assure we were still coming, we filled out all the paperwork to be preapproved for loan the night before the appointment. We were very clear on the exact truck we were coming in for. After driving over an hour to get to the dealership, we arrived for them to tell us that the truck was sold days ago to someone else. That is extremely bad business, so don't waste your time here. It's clear they don't really care what you want and just want to sell something. Covid or not wasting a customers time is NO WAY to do business and they should be ashamed for wasting our time. read more
