I had it serviced in December of 2024. I Was called by my service agent and told the car was all set and ready to go $1500 later. Drove it for 1 hour engine light goes on makes a funny sound upon starting. Had it towed back. AAA guy said when he tried to start it sounds and smells like there is no oil in it. (I had just paid for an oil change and multiple other repairs). Called Speedcraft a few days later and they said the oil (which they had just changed) had metal shavings in it and the motor was shot and it would be 15,000 for a new motor and turbo. I went in to talk to the service department about what happned. This car was purchased as a Certified Pre-Owned from Speedcraft and service exclusively at SpeedCraft including all oil changes being done within 200 miles of when they were due. The parts manager blamed us. She was rude and disrespectful. Including to my son who is a mechanic in the Navy and his girlfriend who was with us who is a mechanic in the Army. I asked to speak to the General Manager and the Service manager lied and said she was the general manager. I told her I was stopping payment on the charge. She said it was my fault and there was nothing she could do. By the way in addition to not standing behind their products or service be prepared to hear Speedcraft blame any problem with you car on you. They are never wrong in their minds and their products never fail in their minds. As I left the dealership the service managerapproached my car and banged on the window and said we won't release your car until you stop the stop payment. I spoke the the general manager who was at least polite but told me it was a problem with the car that Volkswagen built and to call Volkswagen Corporate. I spoke with them and they said it was a dealer problem. My daughter (a nursing student) went to get her belongings out of the car and was told they would only return her stethoscope but nothing else (clothes, etc) until we paid the bill for them destroying the car. They destroyed my car, took zero accountability. They still won't release my destroyed car to me. This is the single worst company I have ever dealt with. I explained situation and she was very rude abrupt and disrespectful She told me I need to wait up to seven weeks because they need to order parts on my question for loner car she told me to rent Enterprise to my own expense I know she doesn't like me because last time on my wife car oil change mechanic didn't put plug properly and car lost 2.5 quarts of oil overnight I called technician a..hole and she got angry.Luckily for me it's plenty of VW dealerships around I was done in one and half hour for fraction of the price she told me See you next time Sue.... Brought my car in for an inspection and was told I needed over $800 worth of brake work done in order for it to pass inspection. Then I took it to a local body shop garage that I have used on occasion and they gave me an estimate of $600 for the same bill at work. Upon inspecting the brakes, they said half of the work didn't need to be done and received a bill for about $300. The local garage said dealers often add work to what really needs to be done, and that the additional items that the dealer wrote up that needed to be changed we're good for another year and a half to two years. I brought my car in for an inspection on Thursday It didn't pass. No problem. They didn't have the parts. They told me make an appointment on Tuesday because they would get the parts on Monday. I did. On Monday I received a confirmation text. Overnight we got a snow storm. The ride in to speedcraft was treacherous because of the snow. I left the car and my key in the drop box. I received a phone call around 9am confirming the work I was having done. I said ok. A few minutes later they called back to tell me the parts never came in on Monday. When I asked why they didn't cancel my appointment they had no answer. We got that settled after arguing with me that it wasn't their fault When I came to pick it up there was two nails in my tire and it was going flat. I suspect they did that on purpose. This place went well beyond what I expected. They were so friendly, proficient, helpful, and was not expensive. I was on a tight deadline and called to see if they could help me figure out what I needed to do to pass a safety inspection. I needed a front bumper license plate mount. They ordered one and installed in just a few days. They put on my plate, cleaned inside and out, and completely my safety and emissions inspection. And they even gave me tips on ski resorts around here. Before this, I always thought of "dealer service" as expensive, slow, and a little pompous. From now on, this is the only place I'll take my car for service. Highly recommend them! read more

I took my 2014 Tiguan to Speedyway because my airbag light was on. They told me the airbag needed to be replaced to resolve the light and it would be over $1,000. I agreed to have it replaced, and they told me to return to pickup the car in a few days. I called the morning that my car was supposed to be ready and they told me it would be ready at noon. My father had to stay home from work to give me a ride (40 minutes each way) on a week day to the dealership. We get there, and they said, "oh, sorry, actually replacing the airbag didn't resolve the light, so we have to replace the clock spring and the part won't be here for a few days so you will have to come back." Query why they didn't call me to let me know that my car wouldn't be ready before I spent two hours going to pick it up. Anyway, I said ok, well then please put the old airbag back in the car because I don't want to pay for a new airbag that I don't need. They told me that they didn't have the old airbag anymore and I would still need to pay for the new one. I called VW corporate hoping that they could intervene, but when VW corporate called Speedway, they gave them a completely different story than they had given me and my father. They told corporate that replacing airbag *did* resolve the light, so VW corporate refused to intervene. This place messed up the diagnostic, threw parts at my car, and still expect me to pay for them. I asked them yesterday to send me the diagnostic records so that I could get them evaluated by an outside mechanic, but it's been 24 hours and I have yet to receive them. Given that they lied to VW Corporate, I assume they have been busy forging the records. Do not go here. read more

Absolutely LOVED the service here. I came in here after going to several other VW dealerships (and being thoroughly mistreated by them...) and I was beyond upset and annoyed. To be honest, if I had not had the great experience I had with that staff at that time, I probably would not have even bought a new car. Everyone knows the deal with dealerships (the stereotypical stuff, you know -- pushy, encouraging you to get more features to spend more money, etc) but the staff here was awesome with helping me stay in my budget, allow me to get the car I looked for, AND!!! they had the keys ready for me with the car pulled up front for me to test drive the second I walked in the door. I didn't feel rushed to test drive the car, nor did I feel rushed to make a decision right away on whether or not I planned on purchasing. The financial dept also made my life so much easier when it came to explaining what I was signing, etc. I cannot thank Speedcraft enough for everything they have done and helping me find my match of a new car! I previously bought a brand new Jetta from here in August 2015. It was the worst experience of my life to date. I should have walked out when the finance officer had two bruised eyes and smelt like a booze bottle. He was a jerk when we declined different added packages. There was a tiny scratch on the side of the passenger door so as a part of the sales agreement they were going to fix it. We dropped off our car in perfect condition and upon them calling me to tell me it had been fixed we appeared to a disaster. Scratches on the hood, the car looked like it was washed with a dirty rag leaving what looked like old fashioned record discs all over the car. The rear bumper had an imprint of someone's license plate. We refused taking the car. James Dartt, at the time was the manager and offered to pay for our dinner - which we declined and promised to have the car fixed. Needless to say it was fixed -horribly. We refused to take the car back again since there was additional scratches all over the vehicle they advised we had to live with it. We called the police as advised to make a report. Another man with red hair and glasses came out telling us we needed to the leave the property once the cop showed up which the cop in turn told him to sit back and be quiet. He tried shoving the keys into my sweatshirt pocket with the cop in front of him resulting with the cop asking if I wanted to press charges. The manager also slyly told me next time I shouldn't buy a black car after our conversation with the officer had ended. We came to terms that the people and this company were the worst of the worst. Complete scum. Had I known the damage they would have done to my vehicle I would have lived with the scratch that was less than an inch. They ripped the awesome new car feeling from me especially considering I worked very hard for the car and it was my first brand new one. They have since called me numerous times with me asking to be taken off their phone and mailing list but basically they are incompetent of that too. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I have since bought multiple VWs since this occasion and could not have been more pleased with another local competitor. read more

When I asked to make an offer on a vehicle that I was interested in, the salesperson gave me SUCH a nasty attitude... ("WHAT DO YOU MEAN MAKE AN OFFER?!??!!?") as if people don't ask to negotiate prices. Oh well... It's Speedcraft's loss! I found an exactly identical car at another dealer and it was cheaper than the one these guys had. Chris and Steve at parts were great in resolving my issue with programming and buying a spare key. I look forward to continue to bring my VW here to receive great service from a dealership. We all know that finding Great Service at a dealership is Virtually Impossible but this place was Super! I called basically every VW in RI and MA and they were all rude and did not want to program my key. SPEEDCRAFT did all they can to try to program it and I even ended up buying an Extra Key from them because they don't OVERCHARGE their customers $500 like BALISE VW AND EVERY OTHER VW Dealership in RI and MA. Very nice place and people. I am from Connecticut and was in the market for a Sportswagen. I checked online and their selection and prices were better than any of my local dealers. I contacted them online and they were very responsive. We got the basics out of the way online and then I drove over. They were very friendly and helpful. No hard sale, let me take my time, and I headed back to Connecticut in the car I wanted. Everyone was great, especially the salesman, Allen. He was great. I will admit, as one of the other reviewers points out, that the building is not as cool and sleek as some other dealers. But are you there to buy a building or a car? I had an urgent problem with my Audi A5 and was within a few miles of Speedcraft so I called on the mere hope that they could at least take a look at it. Ken in the service dept was very helpful and said to pull in and they would give it a look. We pulled in to service, and Ken greeted us by name and took the keys and pulled it straight in to the garage. He came back 10 minutes later with the problem resolved (a rock stuck inside the brakes). He gave us the keys and when I offered to pay he said there was no charge. In the brief time we waited we got coffee and checked out new VWs. The staff was very friendly. I highly recommend this place for service and Ken in particular. Honestly their customer service and follow through is non existent, these guys don't know how to run a business, they will sell you a car for sure, after that watch out. I purchased my new E Golf 2-27-19 as they are not sold in my state, I worked a deal for about 3 weeks and finally agreed on a purchase price. I hopped on a plane from CO and picked up the car in person, I then shipped the car to CO from RI. Everything was great at this point, the team was very communicative, met me late to take delivery you name it they where there. Unfortunately the honeymoon was very short lived, about 2 weeks after taking delivery of my new E Golf and after the car was now in my driveway in the state of Colorado I received a call from the Finance Manager Ian stating they had made a large mistake and wouldn't be able to honor the deal, their was a mistake on their part, they then asked to take the car back. Now remember this dealership in in Rhode Island and I am in Colorado, taking the car back was not an option, I had already sold my MK6 ICE Golf. I attempted to work with Ian to come up with a mutual solution that helped both parties, unfortunately we couldn't make that happen. At this point I had to get VW Of America involved as things where spiraling fast. Long story made shorter, I purchased a car laying out the requirements, they botched the deal, Its now 12 weeks later and I am still working to solve all the issues they have created. Accessories arriving 8 weeks after purchase, credit card deposits being held illegally 4 weeks after purchase, 9 Fraudulent Hard credit inquiries that will take 2 years to fall off, temp plates that expired while they tried to figure out their own business that I then had a car sit in my garage insured and incurring costs that I could not legally operate. Plates that took nearly 9 weeks to obtain that where first advertised as being a few weeks to get. Refunds for accessories and plates and registration that still haven't been solved. This is the cliff notes version to this nightmare. To make matters worse Speedcraft's Managements response to me asking what they plan to do for me to make up for the past 9 weeks of time and effort on my part? You got a good deal!! That's what they actually said to me. Do yourself a favor DO NOT do business with these guys, you will thank me later. I don't prefer to leave negative reviews, but my only recourse to help modify their behavior is to effect their bottom line. I will be leaving reviews anywhere I can to ensure customers go somewhere else. They desperately need a management refresh. read more

I responded to a Carguru add from Speedcraft VW due to price well below any competition (if it looks too good to be true, it likely is) I was placed on hold and ultimately told that a sales manager would respond shortly. Without a return call within an hour, I called back and was told again, a sales manager would respond shortly. In the several hours thereafter, I repeated the call two additional times and again: a sales manager will need to call me back. Each of the four calls resulted in four different sales persons. 10 days later, that's right folks: 10 DAYS LATER!! I received a call from Jessica, a sales manager at Speedcraft, without ever hearing back from Speedcraft, I explained that within the past 10 day period, I negotiated a purchase from a competitor and I would close the deal within the next couple days. Jessica asked what the purchase price was, I told her, she responded by telling me that she would need to speak to her senior manager and call me back within one hour following the conversation with the manager. I have purchased several VW's from Speedcraft, Always working with Luke, who is no longer there. Never had any issues with the usual shell game played between the sales person, sales manager and the finance guy. However they have the worst service department a 100 mile radius. Regardless of the issue they always find it impossible to diagnose on the first trip. It takes an average of 3-4 trips to the service department for them to even get close to it. Invariably, I need to take it to a Mattie or Scott VW for proper diagnosis and repair. The most recent occurred at approx. 24000 miles, in December of 2018, when the brakes began to pulse. I found this disconcerting and immediately brought it to the dealership who promptly informed me I needed brakes and rotors. Having owned 10 pervious VW's and never having to replace brakes prior to 89K I found this difficult to understand. I asked if it would be covered under warranty and was informed it was a "wear and tear item". It took 4 calls over 3 weeks to the acting service manager for him to call VW to see if it would be covered. They finally agreed to cover the repair and replace the pads and rotors under warranty. Now 4 months later the brakes are again pulsing, a trip back to the service department resulted in me being told I needed another set of brakes and rotors. I was informed this was normal wear and tear and was not under warranty. There was once again a new service manager and all new service staff. I was told I would have to assume all costs for my second set of brakes and rotors in 4 months. I called VW Customer Care who after listening escalated it to the regional service rep. After 4 days I received a voice mail from CHRIS who stated he would get back to me. After 4 days of no contact and several left messages I got to speak to him. I immediately heard a strange tome in his voice as if he was multitasking or possibly just exhausted. He abruptly informed me that there were no recalls on brakes and this was simply wear and tear issue, yes even after 4 months. When I pressed the issue I was told that the general manager had graciously offered to pay for 25% of the parts for the repair. wen I remarked that it was not any big deal as it represented the dealers mark up on parts and while sounding good still left me with 7/8's of the cost of a repair which was just repaired. I was also informed that the rotors were never replaced the first time. So basically after telling me i needed rotors and pads in December, telling me they replaced both under warranty, they in fact simply replaced the pads guaranteeing that the brakes would once again fail in short order. I remarked that I wondered if they had been reimbursed to replace both and simply replaced just the pads and Chris remarked that I would never be able to find that out so either way I needed brake pads and rotors and it was my responsibility. So basically I was provided VW customer disservice all the way around. I will never go back to this dealership for service. This is not the first time I have gotten the feeling that they are double dipping on warranty reimbursement without actually performing the service. On 3 other occasions after going to Speedcraft with service concerns and being told on each occasion the issue was within specs and then bring the same concerting to Mattie and Scott VW the issues were immediately identified and repaired under warranty. There is a reason they can't retain service staff and I have to wonder if the previous staff is serving jail time for consumer fraud. This dealership is 5 minutes from my home and I would rather travel 60 minutes to go to a real VW service department for actual service. I suggest avoiding this dealership and its disservice department at all costs. read more

I got an immediate response to my question regarding the availability of the vehicle. I have never purchased a vehicle from a website let alone across the country without ever test driving it. Worst, absolutely the worst dealership. I have had multiple issues trying to get my vehicle , that I purchased there serviced. From losing my wheel locks. Which, I conveniently found out when I got a flat. They lost it when they did my tire rotation. I had to bring my Jeep there because no one else could get it off without the wheel lock. Fortunately, I didn't need a new tire and they were able to patch it. Though, they did charge me for it, even though I couldn't go anywhere else to get it patched. I had to drive my flat there. Might I add, being the dealership , they charge much more than the 3 local businesses that I passed, driving on my flat there. I had my Vehicle serviced 2 days before I moved out of state. Oil change, 5 tire rotation. Fast forward to today. I am sitting in a Jeep dealership (I have since moved out of state) I Am, right now, getting an oil change and tire rotation (first since SpeedShaft) Speedshaft apparently replaced an aftermarket lug nut that didn't fit on my front driver side wheel. It shredded the stud. They also replaced the lug nuts so tight, that 3 of the studs snapped when they tried to remove them. I am now paying an additional $415 on top of my oil change and tire rotation. The Master Slave cylinder on my clutch 3 weeks after I purchased it. I bought her in March and it was cold in RI. So, I did not inspect the soft top. That was my fault. That is an additional cost of a $1,000 minimum, to me. My exhaust still has the wire coat hanger wrapped around it that they sold to me. I have since had it secured but the coat hanger is still there. When I told my best friend where I bought the my vehicle, her response was NOOOO, Not speedshaft! Then told me about a Volkswagen they bought there, brand new. That they constantly had to keep taking in for service for the first 2 years because the car was not running properly. Conveniently, right when their 2 year warranty was up they were able to successfully diagnose the problem that ended up costing them thousands to repair. read more

We were at the gas station hoping to fill the tank. The station attendant could not get the latch to our Tiguan's gas tank to open. We drove down the street to Speedcraft. Picture this: it's pouring rain and the service department is full of customers who have scheduled appointments. Chris, the service department manager, comes out and takes the car in. Within minutes, they have figured out our problem: the car needed to be completely unlocked for the latch to open. They would not take anything from us except our thanks. Having just moved here and already owning a vw, I needed to find a place to service my vehicle. I must say, the service department is outstanding to deal with. When I received my vehicle after being serviced the service tech went over the car with me outside to make sure that everything was to my liking. I've never once had that from a service department. They also washed and vacuumed the entire car. If I were in the market to buy another vw, I would definitely come here. read more

Less than one star! The WORST service from a VW dealer I have ever experienced. Brought my car in for its 10k service, and also had a couple issues I asked them to fix. My trunk would not open for some reason, and the tire pressure indicator on the monitor system would not store. I have a cargo liner made specifically for my trunk, and I have never ever experienced any issue with either the liner or the trunk opening in the year I've had this car. They told me the liner was "too close" to the trunk latch and that is why my trunk would not open anymore. I thought that did not sound right, but so long as my trunk was working again I don't really care what the problem was. They also told me they did a software update and my car information on the monitor was storing and operating fine. I also asked for my car to be washed (something I have never had to ask for elsewhere before, as they would always tell me right away that this would be done). When they told me I was all set, I walked out to my car and I was shocked. It was NOT washed at all. It was soaking wet, but just as dirty as when I got there. Clearly all they did was spray it with a hose and called it a day. I was extremely disappointed to see that, but I guess it's not the biggest deal so long as everything was fixed and the service portion had been completed. Well now I don't even trust that the service was performed, because when I got home (and I live 20+ miles away) I discovered NOTHING AT ALL had been fixed!!! The trunk still won't open, the monitor is no different, and then on top of that now I was REALLY angry about how my car had been left. How lazy can you be?!! And when I folded down my seats to investigate this liner matter, I could very clearly see it is nowhere near the latch, as I suspected. I immediately called the dealership and asked for service. There was no answer so I left a message. No call back. I call again the next day. The service manager was out on a personal day, but he promised to call me first thing the next day. I can understand that, no problem, just so long as I do receive a call. NEVER. CALLED. ME. BACK. If I were VW, I would be embarrassed to allow this place to represent their name. Horrible, horrible, experience. First and last time here!!! read more

The people who work here have no idea what they are doing or what cars they have on their own lot. They call me about cars that I didn't even own, took hours for simple service, returned my car dirty. At the end of my lease with them they made the return process nearly impossible and were asking me what paperwork they needed to be filling out. After returning my car almost 4 months ago I recieve a bill for damage that they did on my car after I returned it in perfect condition. VW credit returned the fees knowing how many issues there are with this horrible dealership. The car was not the problem, I would deal with any other VW dealership besides this one. What a wonderful car-buying experience! I am from another country and had never bought a new car in the States or in my home country. Naturally, I was a little sad and nervous when I knew it was time to leave my old Saab behind and move on to buying a new car. I knew I wanted a VW but wasn't sure which model, so I started doing research online. When my boyfriend and I saw online reviews left by happy customers praising how friendly people are at Speedcraft, we decided to drive 45 minutes to see it for ourselves, even though there are a few other VW dealers that are much closer to Providence. I came home with a new VW SE w/sunroof and nav that afternoon. Biggest birthday present I've ever gotten for myself! The whole experience began with an online request I made to Speedcraft to make an appointment for a test drive. Carrie called within half an hour or so and was extremely helpful and, most importantly, upfront. She told me the internet price I saw, which was very low, was a cash price and I would need to pay more than that if I wanted to take advantage of the 0% APR. I really appreciated her honestly as I did not ask about the price. She made an appointment for me and told me she wouldn't be there on the day I go in but someone will take me. This 'someone', Richard, emailed me very soon after that. I told Richard the model and the colors (ext. and int.) I would like to see. When we got there Saturday, the car was waiting for us. Richard had one of their salespeople, John Flowers, take us as he himself is in charge of the internet part of the business. Although there were so many customers that afternoon Richard ended up having to take a customer and his family for a test drive too. John Flowers, our guy, is just a wonderful, wonderful person to work with. I drove home a new car that day primarily because of the staff there, and among them, John was the main reason. He was patient and thorough before, during, and after the test drive. He explained everything clearly and patiently answered all my questions, silly or quasi-intelligent. Even my boyfriend, a seasoned American middle-aged car buy himself, thought John was exceptionally clear and sincere. When I decided to buy, I needed to choose between a night blue SE w/sunroof and a slightly more expensive opera red SE w/sunroof and navigation. James, Speedcraft's general manager who is also currently their acting finance guy, gave me two very competitive prices. I ended up getting the red with navigation. When we were waiting for the paperwork, one of the staff on the floor, Luke, came over to chat with us. If you ever go down there, you will see Luke's beautiful and magnificent jade plant sitting in the showroom. We had a good chat about the plant and a nearby restaurant he highly recommended. When the new car was pulling into the front, all cleaned and washed and polished, my boyfriend noticed a couple of very fine lines on the front bumper. They are really very, very fine. John took it seriously and went back into the office. He came back with Luke and the service manager, Howard. After examining the lines and discussing what makes the most sense, we decided that they will work on this when I bring the car back to have my plate put in (it was after hours when this was happening). I was so impressed at how seriously they took this very minor problem. All in all, I highly recommend Speedcraft to anyone who is thinking of getting a VW. I have only had my new Passat for less than 48 hours-and I am loving everything about it-but I am already thinking about going back in a few years so I can have another one of this wonderful buying experience! read more

Great dealership, great experience! If you are looking for a new or used vehicle and are reading this, stop reading and go directly to Speedcraft. My parents and sisters have purchased a total of 5 vehicles from Speedcraft over the past few years, however, this was my first purchase through them. I purchased a new Jetta TDI but was unsure if I wanted the gas or Diesel model when I arrived, additionally I had some questions regarding trim levels and salesman Tom Cottrell came to the rescue. I was provided with several different models of Jettas to pick from and drive, Tom knew his product inside and out. I drove a gas and a diesel model, my decision was made and the price was good! Next to the General Manager, James Dartt, for the paperwork and pressure, nope, paperwork only, oh and an ADDITIONAL $500.00 savings found by James, even better! Living in Warwick, I live MUCH closer to two "Volume" dealers and this dealership with its small-town feel won over my business. I plan on making the drive to Speedcraft for all of my servicing needs as well; that is how well they treat their customers! read more
