They have a really nice work space in their office space that I like to take advantage of while I'm at the university, and the perks of having a kettle available are definitely not lost on this caffeine lover! The seating in the "common areas" of the Mona Campbell building (which is where the College of Continuing Ed and College of Sustainability are) is usually full of students, but if you can nab one it's a pretty comfy place to sit and work or to people watch. There are lots of students around all the time! The pizza place, Topio's, also does pretty great fast-food style pizza. A slice is huge and they have a decent variety. But I gotta say I much prefer their coffee - definitely some of the best on campus!

I figure it would be a good idea for me to at least be able to say hello to them in their native tongue. So, when I saw this place I decided to venture inside and see what they had to offer. I was sad to learn that they mostly deal with foreign students looking to learn the language. Their primary classes right now are English, which I already know. The receptionist was extremely nice and actually gave me a number I could try, since they could not meet my needs. She was such a pleasant lady who obviously enjoyed what she was doing. A couple of students came to the front desk and she was able to acknowledge them all by name. There must be a lot of students there, but she took the time to know each one's name. I think that's saying something about the quality of teaching they do here. I wish that, as an adult, I was able to attend a school like this. The place was decorated like I remember my kindergarten classes were. There were bright colours everywhere and posters on the wall. It was a very warm, welcoming environment, which would make learning there quite fun. It seemed like a great place for people looking to learn English to go. Perhaps I should just go back and update my own language. Nah, I speak good English.

If you do go to the centre for arts and technology make sure you only pay by quarter because getting a refund is a nightmare. The first three months of my animation program was made up of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. No animation. There was an insane amount of professional development. I guess that's cheap to teach. Most of the instructors seem to be right out of school or out of their element. And VCU, don't get me started on trying to learn animation by VCU (Video conference unit). They seem to be moving more toward VCU becasue more of my classes were being taught from another campus. My advice, for any college you plan to attend not just the centre for arts and technology, talk to current and former students. If the college doesn't let you - walk away. I paid alot for my year there. It was an expensive lesson. Ronald Reagan said it best, and this relates to recruiters, "trust but verify"

When students come back after graduating to visit they are greeted like an old friend who they generally are interested to hear from and curious to see improvements. I suffer with dysthymia and generalized anxiety disorder in which I worried.. naturally, but they are respectful and flexible with my conditions. This is a wonderful course if you have the drive and persistence for animation.
