My school made the decision to call the mobile crisis line to get peace officers to come and do wellness checks on me daily sometimes multiple times a day for multiple days. The police and peace officers were extremly well trained to do their jobs. They invited me to church with them and ensured my well being was good. They came with 8 peace officers and involuntarily took me against my will to the emergency room and forcefully medicated me. They sat by my side, fed me snacks and talked to me for over 12 hours until I was admitted to the emergency room. I finally given psych treatment that I needed for over 3 years. The police and peace officers that Dal contacted actually advocated for me to get a TON of resources including assisted living, a work program for people with disabilities, psych nurses to come to my home weekly to check in on me and unlimited food. I am forever grateful for their decision to contact the peace officers to involuntarily admitted me into the psych unit because multiple professionals refused to get me treatment in the past for years and I got brain damage because of it. I thank God everyday for this school getting me the treatment and resources that I needed to survive and reach my full potential. Sadly I had to leave school due to my acute psychosis and brain damage but I will be forever grateful for them advocating for me to get the resources that I needed to survive and thrive.

Many of the professors at Dalhousie are great, but the university as a whole is a complete scam…read more Administration cares so little for its professors and students that they are willing to jeopardize staff and student health and safety. My college, the school of health and human performance, on campus was falling apart and reeked of dead rats. My residence was filled with asbestos and I would hazard to guess that proper precautions were not taken during renovations. Please, please go elsewhere. Any scholarship they offer you is simply a ploy to take more courses. Don't fall for Dalhousie's garbage. If I could rate this less than 1 star, I would.

They have a really nice work space in their office space that I like to take advantage of while I'm at the university, and the perks of having a kettle available are definitely not lost on this caffeine lover! The seating in the "common areas" of the Mona Campbell building (which is where the College of Continuing Ed and College of Sustainability are) is usually full of students, but if you can nab one it's a pretty comfy place to sit and work or to people watch. There are lots of students around all the time! The pizza place, Topio's, also does pretty great fast-food style pizza. A slice is huge and they have a decent variety. But I gotta say I much prefer their coffee - definitely some of the best on campus!

If you do go to the centre for arts and technology make sure you only pay by quarter because getting a refund is a nightmare. The first three months of my animation program was made up of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. No animation. There was an insane amount of professional development. I guess that's cheap to teach. Most of the instructors seem to be right out of school or out of their element. And VCU, don't get me started on trying to learn animation by VCU (Video conference unit). They seem to be moving more toward VCU becasue more of my classes were being taught from another campus. My advice, for any college you plan to attend not just the centre for arts and technology, talk to current and former students. If the college doesn't let you - walk away. I paid alot for my year there. It was an expensive lesson. Ronald Reagan said it best, and this relates to recruiters, "trust but verify"

This is a wonderful course if you have the drive and persistence for animation.

I went into a severe…read moreacute psychosis and started demonstrating severe paranoid delisions during my third year. The professionals at the school did not take the time to talk to me and get to know me and isntead they labeled me as bullying my professors, expelled me and banned me from the property for life. They took away all forms of communication from me to prevent me from getting justice and told me I needed to hire a lawyer to talk to them while I was living in severe poverty. They never made sure that I got treatment from a peace officer for my acute psychosis and paranoid delusions so I stayed in my severe acute psychosis for over 3 years. Due to the length of time I went with my psychosis untreated I now have been diagnosed with severe brain damage and memory problems. They should have spent more time talk to me and getting to know my situation to ensure that they could have gotten me treatment from a peace officer and giving me involuntary treatment for my acute psychosis but their only goal was to maintain their reputation and sales so they didn't bother getting me treatment from a peace officer when they desperately should have done so. They ruined my transcripts with a false suspension and expulsion due to labeling my acute psychosis as breaking a rule and bullying my professors when it wasn't that at all and it has prevented me from getting into new schools and prevented me from getting a career. I demand that they remove my suspension and expulsion from my transcripts to ensure I can go to a new school across the country and get a career to be as successful as I can be. There was never a rule broken and they overlooked my acute psychosis while being very uneducated about how to get a peace officer to involuntarily give me treatment to prevent this from happening again to de escalate the situation. I demand justice and peace for myself and others in this situation. I demand that they reach out to me because they are ignoring me until I pay for a lawyer while living in severe poverty. My statute of limitations for legal actions would be extended about 3 years due to being in a psychosis for 3 years. They have threatened me with lawsuits with their lawyer as well which are baseless. I have NO FEARS and NOTHING else to loose from this school. I DEMAND JUSTICE IT'S BEEN OVER THREE YEARS.

"So why not 5 stars," you might ask? Well, not that it's any of your business but it is lacking a few things. For one, if you need food or drink, you must leave the building. I realize that braving crossing University Street to purchase unhealthy food from the SUB may not seem like an ordeal but ... it's cold out a lotta the year! Or raining. It's also one of the few newer buildings on campus that doesn't have food. Which does help keeping the riff raff out. (And there are vending machines but ew.) Study carrels with wifi = brilliant. Student lounges = brilliant. Putting the two right next to one another = not-so-brilliant. If you want to study on the first or second floor, you're susceptible to the shenanigans that go on in the lounges. Better to head up to third floor and use one of the computer labs. I love the inner courtyard (note to architect: great idea!) which enables the majority of the building to receive significant amounts of natural light. It will also be a good place to rest and catch some rays on warmer days. The small classroom sizes mean that this building is not swamped with students all day. You don't usually need to push your way past someone to get through the hallway. The lobby sometimes but I just kick people in the shins and get through much faster. Or take a side entrance. Most classrooms don't have wifi (which is fine by me, since people should be, y'know, paying attention) but do have outlets along the wall. There are also three elevators (two in front, one in back) making this a fairly accessible building. Though it does kind of suck that if you're in wheelchair and you have to have class in one of the two gi-normous theatres, you're relegated to either the front row (Keener!) or back row (Loser!). All in all, a great building.

It replaced 27 wood-framed houses that once housed all of the arts and social science offices. I know some people take issue with the design of the FASS and the overall not-so-cozy atmosphere. Also, it's not a very inspiring or creative space, which is unfortunate. There isn't a ton of common space, save for the random little nooks with a few chairs. There is however, a nice courtyard and some lovely rooftop patios for sitting and reading during the summer months. I like the small nature of most of the rooms in the McCain, as well as the seating arrangements which usually form a u-shape for a more discussion fostering vibe. There are white boards instead of chalk boards, but it never seems like there are markers available for profs to use. As well, the whole tech system seems to escape the grasp of most Arts professors, and whenever the overhead needs to be used, they summon a tech person to help them. I think maybe I'm giving this building a four for nostalgia, verses the actual practicality of the space. Although, it is always clean and the temperature can be adjusted per room, which is a bonus.
