Their website would not let me unlock my account so even after I had registered online through a promotion, I had to call to cancel! Then came their scripted excuses. They said "rates will fluctuate with our competitors as well" but the ironclad truth is they still cannot compete with the utility on a same month basis, because if the utility increases my bill, theirs will undoubtedly go further up in tandem. From a former customer, do NOT use this company. They have multiple lawsuits against them. They also charged my electric bill a random charge that they are telling me isn't them, however, the electric company is telling me that money will go straight to NRG. On my bill it clearly states "NRG Retail Solotions" with a charge of $145. that is in addition to normal usage charges. somehow, they can't explain to me what that charge is. I've talked to 4 different people, one of them called themselves leadership, however, I find that hard to believe. this company is a scam that will take your money. do not trust them and do not use them. In 2017 there was all this hype about going with the alternative energy supplier. I like many, I signed up for one year. Since 2018 I have been gouged with NRG variable rate. I guess in a way shame on me for not paying more attention but there variable rate is what they're hoping people go to sleep and forget about after the introductionary low rate. . Got an introductory rate of 5.7 cents kwh. After less than 3 months and without notifying me, they doubled the rate. After I discovered it, I kicked the scammers to the curb. Too bad. I would've kept them if they kept the rate low. A PECO rep warned me about them and he was right. read more

Biggest scam... don't let them fool you for .005 of a cent off your bill... its only for 3 months and then it goes up to 2x the price your energy bill would be. even to cancel it takes months to change your rate back and I'm stuck paying 13.9kwh where as Comed is at 7.1kwh. has been with NRG since 2016 and 2022-2023 they decided to switch up. I normally got a Email or a phone call when it came to my contract expiring, not this year they decided to send out a letter. I never received a letter from them, so you can see my face when I received a $700 bill. best part when I called to find out why, they try arguing with me saying they don't do email or phone calls which I completely read 2 of the emails to them. which Mr. David (57737) then closed my account. with my permission and put in the notes that I told him which I didn't. i called and spoke with another manger and her response was all the emails and phone calls was " courtesies" and they could on give me $80 to my $700 bill. because of them I got charge $.17 kWh so thanks NRG read more

slammed me. never authorized them to bill out my energy. apparently duke energy was estimating my meter reading over the winter. so the 'catch up' bill was $1300 which came out of my bank without me knowing. To top it off, NRG rates based upon this huge amount of KWh was $500 more than what it was when I had Duke. I never authorized this switch. going to file a complaint with the PUCO but don't expect much. I had NRG in the past with no issues. Yes 3 months is a tiny bit cheaper and then if you check one month before ending contract rate, you need to check and sure it will be more expensive. I had no issues int he past but this time...we saw a rep in a festival. We were offered the same rate as comed, we checked but also offered a $100 gift card, instant to use. Well gift card was virtual and nowhwere it showed we were given such. We thought if we get card even if same rate, we still make some money. Contract said fixed rate and we had 3 and 10 days to rescind, cancel. We got home and the gift card was $20 so we called to cancel. No worth it. It was within 3 buisness days so no need to wait any billing cycle although were were told we had to wait 2 business cycles even though our business cycle would start at the very end of september -it was sept 5th when we called to cancel!!! I said BS! we were told we will get $75 at the end of the 3 months plus 3% cash back. NOwhere in anything we signed it showed that ether. We were told to check online in our contract. I said we can't log in. Rep said oh yes, you have to wait at the end of september when your plan starts to have access to your ocntract but trust me"Im telling you the truth". Yeah right, in person rep said njothign about it, it is written nowhere but there is a hidden contract I need to see in 3 weeks more...no way!! I went online and their website said you have to be 6 months with them to get $75 and the cash back is after one year so also contradicts what lady told me and no way we are going to stay longer then 3 months being a variable rate and thousands of people ripped off by this. I called twice to cancel and went to BBB to complain about this people talking different things and nothing in written. We got email that it was cancelled the same night we called but I was a bitch and I know the law and read what we signed. Twice now I've had these people knock on my door, lying about their intentions. First time the guy said something about an Obama program, blah blah blah, told my husband to go get our electric bill and then bam, all of a sudden we had a new electrical service provider. My husband isn't an idiot but somehow he got duped by this guy. I wrote them an email and told them do not change our services, and do not ever knock on our door again with your deceptive practices. Well, new neighborhood, a few years later and who's at my door? A guy from NRG saying he's here to make sure I'm getting my refund checks from the city and my electrical provider. I pointed to my no soliciting sign, which he apparently can't read and continued with his spiel. I said that makes no sense, that the city and my provider aren't doing that, please go. He pressed on saying I just need to see your electric bill so I can calculate how much you're supposed to be getting back. I said I'm not changing my service and he said that's not why he was here. Right. He was getting all pissy with me so I walked away. What's worse is that he's canvasing the neighborhood, doing this to folks who may not be able to understand him or what's going on and then are signed up with some other service provider without knowing what happened. Bad business practices. Bad. **As a follow-up....I emailed them letting them know I did not appreciate their tactics, as I had the first time. I got an email back and all he focused on was how the agent should not have ignored my "no soliciting" sign. He then asked if there were other agents with him "making a sale" on my block. Huh.
