The class takes place after school, on the school's campus, for just over an hour every Tuesday. Kids from 1st-5th grade can participate, and is comprised solely of kids from the school. This really helps bond the cast from the start, and it's a great way to make friends with kids you don't yet know from the school. Because the class meets once a week over a period of a few months, there is a lot of time for the kids to get their parts memorized and perfected. Makes for a really fun show (ultimately performed on Sunday, which is the only weekend commitment the family needs to make). Would love it if the cast could also do one after school show on campus. Kris was our director for this latest show and she is gold; she does exactly what you want your child's director to do: she motivates, she's positive, she gives good encouraging feedback for the cast members, and she casts the kids really well. Ultimately I want my kid to walk away feeling confident and that she's learned a few new skills. If Kris continues with the school program, we will too.

One of my daughters joined the Cirque Masquerade troupe (Expression Arts) in 2023, when she was 16. As in previous years, she has only positive things to say about Esme, Kris, and Marielle during her time in Cirque Masquerade. Like everywhere else in life, we have found at Kids N Dance that while things may not always be perfect, the staff there are all highly skilled at what they do, are compassionate and sincere, and very open to communication. As in other situations in life, rather than avoiding communication, it is always better to reach out with an open mind towards understanding the other's perspective instead of lashing out with negative reviews. Esme is brilliant, caring, and highly skilled, and like all of us, also human and not yet perfect. In our experience, it should be and is possible for mature adults to hold concerns about a perceived problem, and at the same time still recognize and show appreciation for the incredibly hard work that Esme, Kris, and Marielle have all done in order for our kids to be able to put on these magnificent shows. And let us remind ourselves that in situations where we demand curiosity from others, we should hold ourselves to the same standard and demonstrate the same curiosity towards them.

He gave the class great energy. It was the vibe throughout!!! The Kpop group was 7-8 and it went by so fast! Come early enough so you can find parking, it's all street parking. Super competitive classes where people have a fit and elbow you if you stand in "their spot", etc. B. "Adult" classes made up of 13 year olds wondering what you are doing there. C. Classes meant more for socializing rather than dancing. D. Classes that were strictly limited to modern or ballet. I've found the adult classes at Dance/10 to be welcoming, diverse and focused on helping each student become a better dancer and performer -wherever they may be in their process. There is a perfect balance between serious work and levity. Pamm Drake (owner and instructor) is the triple threat of dance educators: professional career on Broadway, an excellent teacher who takes pedagogy seriously, and a genuinely nice person who clearly delights in her students' progress. Her tap classes are fun and progressive - she is great at reading the room and helping individuals without breaking the flow of class. A couple of the teachers decided to carry on the magic of Kirkpatrick's and open up Better Together Dance Theatre. My daughter started dancing at Better Together 4 years ago in the Tiny Dancer class where her love of dance began (thank you Miss Kelly!!). The teachers/owners are amazing and the environment has made her grow into a confident little girl. This studio is no pressure, no competition just a nurturing place to be yourself, learn, perform and have fun! Though I have…read moretaken samba classes for nearly 5 years, I did not make the growth I have achieved in the last eight months since I have joined SQA. The individualized support and nurturing environment have helped me blossom. Queen Jazz-Ylaine is an accomplished dancer and an excellent teacher. She provides step by step lessons on samba foundations. I truly appreciate the one-on-one feedback. She gets to know you as a unique dancer with a unique body and unique quirks and tailors her comments to truly improve your technique. I am grateful for what I have learned. For quite some time, I felt I had hit a plateau in my samba. I felt I would always be stuck in a middle or back row and never improve. Now I realize that I needed a strong foundation, lots of practice in technique, and to work on my confidence. I know I have a lot to learn but I'm up for the challenge. Each class averages an hour. You start with a full body warmup before focusing on the lesson. It could be isolations, the fun bootyology(the art of shaking your bunda that makes samba dancers so fabulous), or endurance. Class concludes with a soulful group stretch and meditation. There are multiple levels/courses. Though I could have moved into the first intermediate class, level 4 which introduces choreography, I chose to repeat level 3, the last of the beginner courses. Sometimes classes are combined so that there are multiple levels together. We are then divided into small groups and work on our level's lesson or the more advanced students are asked to dance at a faster speed or level of intensity. This is a workout. You will get a great cardio workout and your legs will ache for days afterwards. Bring a towel and water. I'm a fan of jazz sneakers but jazz shoes or bare feet are also good. Samba literally has you on your toes so your regular sneakers won't allow you to adequately work on technique. Be prepared to work hard ; expect to smile wider and stand taller. Definitely a worthwhile experience for dancers of all levels.
