Well, since I love my beef schnitzel, and South Australia is basically the only place that serves it, I decided to come to this pub, particularly since it was the nicest looking pub on the street. Absolutely pleasantly surprised - wonderful menu with yummy veggie options like the eggplant schnitzel. We were sitting in a beautiful room by ourselves. We were greeted by a man who showed us where the high chairs were and said hello to Boo (always a tick in my books) I fed her while our food was delivered and the waitress didn't bat an eye so felt extra comfortable. Food was amazing - the chips had a lovely chicken salt on them and the eggplant schnitzel was crisp and yummy. Of course we stayed for dessert and the Mississippi mud cake was SCRUMMY! PHEW! The Louise is also home to Appelation, which is constantly rated to be one of the best restaurants in Australia. But even if you stay at The Louise without going to Appelation is is extremely worth it. I'll be back when I have a few hundred spare dollars...

However, it is also one of those country pubs that just happens to be located out in one of the small towns on the approach to Clare. With friendly staff greetings and quick courteous service, it immediately meets great expectations. The restaurant has a rustic look and feel. I especially like that with a full restaurant, the noise level is very low. Good choice in back ground music. The meals are amazing and delicious. I had the American Pork Ribs but next time we will have the Murray's Feast. A great selection of local Barossa wines which does real justice to the local area. I gave the the Tasting Paddle a go with a choice of sixteen beers.

However, while I generally let a grumpy bartender have his bad day (we all have one), I generally do get a little put off people who get defensive after the get your order mixed up (as well as spending time doing other things on a quiet day despite standing at the bar for five minutes waiting to be served). This was a shame because I quite liked the pub it self. There were two nice beer gardens, a Fat Yak craft beer bar, and some cool street art on the outside toilet block. The pub itself is also in one of Gawler's historic buildings, however, despite all of that, I don't see myself coming back here again.

I have to say that it wasn't the best place to have a meal, especially since the table that we sat at had yet to be cleaned (though they were quite busy). While this place is mostly a restaurant, they do have pokies out the back which does work to detract form the fact that it is a family styled restaurant. As for the food, there were no complaints from my brother (but then again he never complains) however despite requesting that my steak be cooked well done, I still discovered some pink in the middle. The staff is really friendly and there are free wine tastings every day! If you stay here definitely check out St. Hugo just next door!
