Tis' the season, and let me tell you something, if giving yourself a full pampering session is on…read moreyour list for Santa, I have got just the local minority woman-owned small business for you! Skyn Smooth™ specializes is just about everything you need to get the world off of your back...literally! The owner Britt is a Licensed Esthetician and Master Brazilian Sugarer. She does amazing EVERYTHING: Full Body Sugaring and Waxing, Facials, Vagacials, Hydrojelly Masks, Hungarian Mud Masks, Eyebrow Waxing and Henna Tinting...did I say Vagacials? LOL There is also a line of products offered for clients to purchase to continue maintenance at home. The best part is that Skyn Smooth has two locations: Carbondale and O'Fallon, so customers can book for the time and location that is most convenient for them. Anything that you can think of that needs to be removed or refreshed, Britt, the Esthetician Goddess (as I refer to her) will handle with finesse and care. The atmosphere created by Britt at Skyn Smooth is serene, quaint, and calming. Everything is very clean and sanitary, and Britt's personality is absolutely perfect for the line of work she has been chosen for. When I met Britt at her Carbondale location the first time, we hit it off immediately. Hey, when you have someone getting really close to you in a matter of minutes, you need to feel comfortable with them. Amen Church? Amen! I also appreciate the fact that she advertises on her social media and website that she accepts ALL as evidenced by this statement: "Skyn Smooth™ exists to provide a place to enhance, encourage, impower, uplift and guide one on their skin care journey, provide a warming environment and a listening ear to all future and current clients. Skyn Smooth™ is a judgement free zone. All shapes, sizes, and identities are welcome." Now I can really support a business with that type of mindset, and I do. I encourage you to support this business as well. It's always the perfect time to treat yourself and/or someone else to a pampering session. When you book your appointment or buy a few gift certificates, tell Britt that Kindra Speech sent ya!

Today (12/04/2021) was my first excursion to Genesis Salon and Spa in Marion, IL. I drove about 30…read moreminutes from where I live to get to this location based on the positive reviews I read on the Vagaro app. I am always happy when the experiences of other customers encourage me to investigate a business for myself. This time it really paid off. From the moment I opened the door, it was evident that Genesis was much more than an average salon. The lobby is beautifully decorated and comfortable. I was greeted immediately by the person who was to perform my service (Obi is awesomeness personified), and led to another immaculately furnished and decorated area. I love that everywhere I went, I could see that the customer was kept in mind. There are comfortable places to lounge and it is obviously kept CLEAN! From the outside, you would think this salon and spa is your ordinary store front, however you would be mistaken. Genesis is huge on the inside. Before coming for my appointment, I researched my esthetician Obi through her customer reviews. I'm happy to report that She was exactly what all of her customers have said she is: PHENOMENAL! I appreciated her professionalism and warm personality. Even though this was my first direct experience with her waxing services, I felt completely comfortable with her. Most importantly, she made sure that I was 100% satisfied with my service before I left, and to me, that is a woman who knows the meaning of customer service. Obi was so awesome that my spa and pedicure appointments are booked with her for the next few months. Yep, Obi is the newest member of the Diva Squad! I'm so thankful to have found Obi and Genesis. Genesis Salon and Spa offers several services for men and women geared to pamper and care for the body, mind, and spirit. The best part for me is that this is a small, local, woman-owned business. Let's hear it for these Entrepreneur Divas! I highly recommend Genesis Salon and Spa in Marion, IL. When you go by, tell them that Kindra Speech sent ya.

(check this out; I did, comparing their cost to my dental insurance schedule of benefits) Before scheduling an appointment here, get a consult from two other oral surgeons. There are several in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Paducah, Kentucky. I did. I compared prices. OMS Carbondale is inflating their costs and they are not in the practice of helping the patient; they want as much money as they can get. Again, do your research. They are not the only option. I canceled my son's appointment once I found out the facts and cross-referenced their charges compared to the norm with other reputable oral surgeons. Their practice manager is nothing short of condescending and rude. Their insurance/treatment plan coordinator does not like being challenged with facts. You can do what you want, but don't pay their price without getting two other treatment estimates. Oh, by the way, any reputable dental practice will not bill for a consult, costing the patient $120, when they can code the visit as a limited exam and it cost the patient $40, plus they get their portion of the insurance allowed. ETHICS!!!!
