I keep my nails natural (no tips) and they DO NOT know how to do nails without tips. They file them down as low as possible, do not shape them, and file too much off on the sides. Worst manicure experience ever. The guy doing my nails did not fully remove my old nail polish and proceeded to laugh at my nails. Very snarky under tones from the staff working there for the entire duration of my manicure. I could tell he was talking about me to the other workers. I got the dip powder on my nails expecting that they wouldn't use the light to cure the nail since in the past, that is how it has been. He pulled out the light and I questioned him about it since I'm not a fan of having my hands exposed to that type of light. After explaining to me that they always do that for dip, which again, has never been the case all of the times I've been there prior, he shook his head and laughed. Been here multiple times and it's always one issue or the other but this time it is so atrocious it deserves a review. It was busy, and that's ok, however after waiting for our service for over one hour, a couple walks in and they take them for their pedicure after 15 minutes. After pointing this out, they finally take us back. We had picked out our shellac colors for our manicures and it is customary everywhere else I've been for them to find the complimentary regular polish for the pedicure but the tech actually told me to go find the polish myself because it is scattered all over the store. Albeit, they did do it for the lady sitting next to me, after asking if she'd like anything to drink, a courtesy I wasn't offered...hmm . I would definitely urge you to read other reviews regarding the discrepancies with how they treat "various" customers. Finally, I asked not to have the drill used for removal of my shellac as it's quite terrible for your nails. I have been choosing this for over 5 years of the 10 I've been getting shellac done, and it has never been an issue. The following is what they left me with. They stated they can't do it without the drill....but mind you I have been here before (multiple times) and they did it with no problem. All that's needed is to re-wrap it and let it soak for a bit longer. The most basic concept or shellac removal. As a nail business, how do you let a customer leave your store with THIS??? To cap it off, the owner proceeds to roll her eyes at me, snicker and say to another customer "It must be a full moon". No professionalism or common courtesy whatsoever. I kept coming back in the past because it is conveniently located. If you like the health of your nails or need basic courtesy with your service, run. Go to T Nails. They do GREAT nails in Southern Illinois! I had gone to another salon to get my acrylics filled and they completely messed them up. I went to California Pro today and the gentleman who did my nails was able to fix them perfectly! He spent such a long time doing it, making sure they were perfect. Not to mention, everyone in there is incredibly nice. They're very clean (tools are in sealed packages!) and they take care of everything in there. There are other places in Carbondale that you can go to to get better quality nail service, cleaner salon and most importantly nicer and friendlier customer service. The owner here thinks she is hot stuff so she can be rude to clients. Um this is Carbondale, not LA. The area where pedicures are done is SO dark that it's not surprising that when I came home, I had more nail polish on my skin than on my actual nails. My shellac manicure was so awful that the lady missed 1/4 of my nail and when I pointed it out to her she laughed and painted it which led to the 3/4 of my nail being darker since she only did one coat for 1/4 of my nail. The lines near my cuticles were ALL over the place. No precision at all. This is not a quality manicure at all. And for them to hold themselves to such a high quality where they even stated "we are the best in Carbondale" is ridiculous. Also, when you tip they 98% of the time do not say thank you. I have been getting pedicures here for a few months now. I'll be back in a few weeks and I have recommended it to others. Some time over the winter they updated the pedicure chairs and stations. They look and feel so much better! I've had a different person each time that I go. They are all professional but I think some are better or better fit my needs than others. I don't know if you can request who you want or not. The one male does an excellent job. Excellent. Only negative is that you should be careful what time you come. Do not go on a Friday early evening before a holiday weekend. It is super busy. They will sit you in a pedi chair without telling you how long the wait will be. If you're in a hurry be sure to explicitly ask how long you'll wait. Better yet, sneak over when everyone else is still at work! Oh and they are opened on Sundays - which is also a great time to go. However, we sat there waiting for about an hour, and I asked a woman who I think is the boss if she had an estimated time of when we would be getting in. She said 30 minutes and I said thank you. It had been 40 minutes, and we had been waiting for an hour and 40 minutes. I told her how long we had waited and she said, "If you are going to be that impatient, then you should leave." I said, "I don't think I have been impatient, I have waited for almost 2 hours." And she said, "Trust me I didn't know I'd be here this long either." I have been to this salon multiple times and have been repeatedly disappointed. They overcharge for their services and always push for you to choose a more expensive option. Every time I've been there they have aggressively tried to convince me to get dip instead of acrylics. Even after I decline, they continue to push for me to choose dip. Of course it is much more expensive, hence why they try to get everyone to do it. I've also been dissatisfied with the quality of my nails every time. I have gone to California Pro Nails for the past year. For 80% of my appoints I received the 'dip" manicure and love love love the quality of their work. The 'dip' manicure lasts for over a month, more than that if you choose to leave it on that long. I received excellent service from all the manicurists each time except for one sad time. There were multiple males working there that day. Two very jovial and personable and one very sullen. Guess who I got? Mr. Sullen. He was rude, sighing heavily about each thing he had to do and kept mumbling under his breath about me because I forgot to "relax". The poopier he was the more tense I became. I finally put my hands over his and said, "Look I know you are not happy but I'm doing my best to relax and you need to try to be nice to me." After that I did ask not to have him anymore. Came in with a large group, 9 people, 8 getting something done, before my wedding. I was the last to arrive along with my sister and all the bridesmaids getting a pedicure and my mother had already been started on and my was started on soon after arrival. During one of my girls pedicures the worker was condescending her for having painted her toenails on her own at home which none of us appreciated. They started me on nails first since I was getting a full set, sadly this separated me from my entire group since manicures are in a different room. They slowly started bringing my two girls that weren't having pedicures into the room but sat them on opposite sides of the room even though there were two empty spots on either side of me. Overall, we were there 3 hours and they got slower and slower as it went. At one point we were all done except for two manicures. One just getting painted the other a fill - yes they saved a fill for last- and kept putting off starting. My sister was the fill and she had a color picked out a pretty pale pastel pink and they switched colors on her to a darker pink before they started wit boy showing her how it would look or getting her permission. They put three coats on and it was way darker than my sister wanted. We were all starving so went to a Mexican restaurant around the corner for lunch and while ordering my sister kept staring at her nails then finally decided she wasn't happy and wanted to go get it changed. So she went back and complained and they actually argued with her saying she picked the color and it's be a 45 minute wait to change and she'd have to pay for new color. I have never had problems with this nail salon until today. The tech taking care of me began trimming my nails so fast she cut my skin and needless to say, I was livid! I am rough on my fingernails and after accidentally cutting a chunk out of one of my nail beds, it was fixed and decorated to camouflage the damaged I had done. I went someplace last week with my sister. It was in Murdale Shopping Center. They were, in my opinion, very rude. I tried making idle chat with her and she kept ignoring me and even rolling her eyes at me. The man sitting next to her was much nicer and talked to me like I was human. Anyway, I spent $80 for my sister and I both and after searching I see that most of the other places charge much less than that place. I did not care for the look of that place. In my opinion, for them to be dealing with hands and feet, they were not clean and whatever it was she laid my wrists on was used by who knows how many other people before me. (I think it was a small roll of paper towels mashed down). Anyway, the more I think about it, the more appalled I am at what they used and how they did it. I just did not like the experience there at all and I am looking for a clean place with friendly workers. I like to talk and enjoy a good conversation. Who can recommend a good place for me to try?
