I go to school in Carbondale and have gone to E. Claire to get my hair trimmed on two different occasions, with two different stylists. The first time I went everything seemed great until I got home and noticed how unevenly cut my hair was, and I was super disappointed. However, I thought maybe it was just because I have pretty thick hair and it likes to wave. I returned to E. Clair after several months (and a trip to a different salon) and saw a different stylist just a few days ago. Again, my hair seemed fine when I left, and I just straightened my hair today and noticed how the right side of head was left much longer than the left. It's clearly noticeable by others and I'm actually embarrassed to be in public with it down. I hate to give this place a bad review because the stylists are so nice but I'm really, really upset at how poor my haircuts have been. read more

Update: I did receive a full refund. I do not recommend E.Claire for wedding hair and makeup. I booked them when I had heard good reviews and that they had a wedding package. At my first trial, I had makeup and hair completed. Overall, it went well and everyone was very nice. It was clear with the style that I chose that needed extensions. I have never worn them and when I bought them, I asked for a second trial. I wanted to see if I liked that style with my extensions. I also was paying for these trials and tipping. When I arrived at my second trial, the MUA started doing my makeup and I was told me that the stylist who did my first trial would be at a conference and someone else would be doing my hair. She then said it would be cheaper because of the new stylist's level. I asked why I wasn't told this prior to this appointment so I could make an appointment with the new stylist. I was then encouraged to continue with this trial so they could share the notes on my hair. Again, I had to pay for a trial with someone who wasn't doing my hair for the wedding. I was clearly upset and after the trial I was offered a third trial with the new stylist for free. I was on the fence because I didn't want to be difficult. However, when I left the salon my hair immediately fell out so I trusted my gut and had a third trial. At the next trial which was a week before my wedding, the new stylist struggled with my hair and I became emotional. She had the owner over twice to help her. After almost an hour, my hair was not close to being finished. The owner then asked my mom and me to go to the makeup area. She sat me down and it felt like I was getting called into the principal's office. She told me that it was not normal to have three trials and by doing this many trials I was confusing her staff. I then started sobbing in the chair. I then to the best of my ability explained why I had three trials. Again, I didn't want three trials. If I had been called prior to the second trial that the original stylist was not doing my hair, then I would have scheduled with the new stylist. Thank goodness I did have that trial and that didn't happen on my wedding day. The owner then offered to do my hair for the trial so she could train the stylist and assured me that she would have her practice on mannequins. I appreciate that effort and she did a nice job with my hair. I was in the salon for 3 hours. However, by that point I no longer trusted them to do my hair. I contacted my normal stylist and last minute she agreed to do my hair and 4 bridesmaids. Finally, I asked three times for their plan and a schedule. I also asked how many they would be sending. I was told they would have three for sure and possibly send an intern as well. At the wedding, they did arrive on time and were extremely friendly. However, hair really struggled. One of my bridesmaids has short hair and they had to redo her hair three times. She sat in the chair for over an hour. Another bridesmaid had a simple braid and curls. Two stylists had to work on the hair together. They had to redo my MIL's hair twice. My MUA did a nice job on my makeup. However, the other makeup artist struggled applying glue to apply eyelashes on another bridesmaid. Again, they were very nice, but after they left, the additional stylist that did my hair, redid hair for a bridesmaid and my MIL. She did hair for 6 out of the 8 people. Again, everyone was very nice. However, if you are going to offer wedding services then communication needs to be much better and they need to be prepared to do hair for brides and wedding parties. read more

I was here last fall For a wash and a styling. I noticed lots of hair on the floor and in little piles all over the place. The hairdresser was ok but nothing that would warrant more than one star. a few days ago I called them for a manicure but whoever answered the phone was so So unfriendly that I decided never to call or go there at all. read more

I've had my hair cut, styled, and braided by Betsy on multiple occasions and I am always impressed with not just her skills and knowledge, but her passion and desire to make your experience as wonderful as possible. She's recommended products that have made my squirrel's nest of hair easier to brush, healthier, and less dry. She also recommended products for my partner to help with his dry scalp that are working like a charm. Her massage is heavenly and I fell asleep on the table. I came in because of chronic pain and left pain-free. Just thinking about it makes my scalp tingle. Do yourself a favor and make an appointment now. read more

The staff at E Claire are friendly and engaging, and they make you feel like family. Ericka was awesome! The salon has the right address but the location showing up in Yelp is wrong. Everyone was dressed up as comic book characters. Being on the road 200-300 days a year it's a real delight to happen on such a wonderful experience. If I were local, I would be a regular. read more

I have yet to have a fantastic experience here. I have given them a try 3 times with 3 different stylists and have been less then happy. Jessica was the first person to cut and color my hair and honestly it was just ok. The cut was not even and had to go back in for her to fix it and it still was not even. I also had Ethan cut my hair. I told him the sides where uneven but he swore that I was just seeing things. The last person that cut my hair was Kaylee. I asked for a pixie cut with longer sides and it seriously looked like a bowl was put on my head. I had to go someone else to get it fixed because there was NO WAY I was going back there. My mistake in all these situations was not talking to Elizabeth, the owner. Had I told her how unhappy I was with each experience, she would have fixed it herself. The customer service here is really great. I just think she needs new stylists. read more

I would give this place 3.75 stars. I was visiting my sister, and we went for pedicures together. The booking process was easy; the salon was beautifully kept. Kalyn and her intern took great care of us. All the perks of the spa pedicure (the scrub and massage) were great, and speaking as a New Yorker, the prices were ridiculously good. My only tiny complaint is that the paint job itself was slightly messy. read more

I love this place! I think it's really great that it's a learning salon. Everyone is licensed, and everyone is open to learning and loving learning. I love that the owner, Elizabeth, will make sure that everything goes perfectly for you. I do my best to come here at least once a month for a little pampering.
