A welcoming environment staffed with the most courteous and skilled stylist I've experienced thus far. I've finally found the place to strongly recommend for a haircut until I've no more hair to cut. read more

These people live up to the name of this place. I showed up for my appointment and KABOOM! No record of it. Right hand is too busy doing something the left hand has no idea about. Totally unprofessional. See ya bye Hair Brains!! read more

Hair Brains - Hair Salons Near Me - Carbondale, Illinois

The staff at Hair Brains is so incredible. They are excellent listeners and are kind and talented. The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly, and professional. If you're like me and have gone too long without trims and other hair care/maintenance, this is wonderful, judge-free place to go. read more

I wish these old reviews would be removed as none of these stylists are working at HairBrains. Currently, three of the main stylists are the owner and the two full time stylists, all of whom have decades of experience. During the pandemic, they strictly adhered to all mandates. Every time, I have been in there for a cut, color, or both, everyone is masked and they even alternate chairs so no one is close except the stylist. Your hair is washed, cut, colored, etc. without taking your mask off. And the outcome is not only beautiful but you'll get a lot of compliments. I love the atmosphere of the salon, located on the corner, next to Tres Hombres on Washington St. in Carbondale. The building is one of the historic buildings of Carbondale and has such atmosphere. And you couldn't find a nicer and more experienced group of professionals. read more

Hairbrains is one of the jewels of Southern Illinois! The staff are friendly, the manager, Lynn is AMAZING and really professional (while also being a sassy fun lady who, IMO looks a bit like Marlyn Monroe). I don't see the owner there very often, but the place runs like a finely tuned machine (or at least has the appearance of that and that is all that matters to me). When you walk in the door you are always greeted by whoever is at the front desk or someone gets to you very quickly. It seems the employees attend trainings on a regular basis to hone their craft. Which is important to me when my hair is their craft!!! They offer more than just hair, they also have nails, waxing, ect. There are also refreshments and cookies usually out. AND they have local art featured and products to sell. I also never feel like they are pushing their products on me. I have had several individuals here cut my hair, although Lynn is the person I always ask for now. Megan is also great. I moved away about 5 years ago, but continue to make appointments with Lynn when I come home to visit my parents. For the person below who talked about their hair falling out and frying, I am not discounting her experience, however, I would bet my paycheck that if the manager knew about the experience she would have made it right somehow. That has NEVER been my experience and I have been going there most of my life. I love the color that Hairbrains brings to Carbondale (both literally and figuratively!). They are professional and fun. AND they are next to Tres and close to Longbranch, so go grab a delicious ambrosia tea and a baked sweet or some nachos and get your locks to Hairbrains. Oh and Megan and Lynn both give you a little mini-massage while they are washing your hair. BONUS. Also:If you want to get into Lynn call early, she books up fast. read more

The hair cuts are incompetent, and so are their staff. They messed up something as simple as layers, which were done poorly with a razor. My bangs were cut very uneven from my last bang trim and turned out looking like a howdy doody bull cut. It was heavy, and very hard to deal with for 2 months, and grew out terribly. Very disappointed in the unsatisfactory hair cut that I received. Worst hair cut in a long time. read more

Had a great experience here. I'm new to the area and wanted to find a comfortable spot to get hair cuts. I'm really glad I went here. Nicki was great and personable. She did exactly as I asked for and was great to talk with. I really appreciated the comfortable and down to earth atmosphere. Definitely recommend! read more

it was a pleasure. The stylist asked so many questions to make sure she knew what I wanted and she delivered. Highly recommended.

I went on a Monday afternoon an hour before close. Whitney didn't even mind, she never rushed me even though I did make them close late. Whitney is the first stylist who I've ever been able to comfortable small talk with. Since I'm a science major, most of small talk I've done at other saloons is shallow, but here she asked engaging questions. Loved the environment of Hair Brains, and of course my new hair style! read more

Hair Brains is a fantastic hair salon. Its in a cool old building in the historic part of downtown Carbondale, and they have maintained the lovely pressed-tin ceiling and other historic details of the space. Megan does mine, my husband, and 4-year son's hair and she is wonderful. Lynn recently did my hair when Megan was out, and she is great too. read more

i got a sports clip hair cut! horrible uneven on the sides and the top looks like a blind edward scissorshands attacked me. My appointment was at one and the hair stylist was working on the person before me for till 1:10pm. she rushed through my hair cut, and cut it WAYYYY to short when i told her not to. then when he next client comes in she tries to get me out as fast as she can even though she took her sweet time on the guy before me. i hate her for what she has done to me and my hair. her name is Whitney Beaver if you never want to go to her. read more
