STAY AWAY FROM NOVA DRIVING SCHOOL -- LEGAL ACTION PENDING I signed up for the $195 2 hour driving lesson and road test option. I really did not need a two hour lesson, but I was told I was required to sign up for the lesson in order to use their car for the road test. Really all I needed was a car to use to get he lesson began at 6AM and we drove for about an hour, taking an occasional break, Then, at 7:30, I lined up to get into the DMV that opened at 8:30. At 8:30 we were let into the building and I was given a number and told to wait for my road test. When I was called to the counter, the DMV suffered a computer failure and they were unable to do any more road tests for the forseeable future. I left without taking my test, the only reason I shelled out 195$ in the first place. My instructor assured me that the school would work with me to reschedule the test, or that I could receive a refund. I called the school about 10 AM that day and the woman told me that this had never happened before and she did not know how to proceed, but she would call me back. She did not call me back. I called again about 5:00 PM and spoke to a man. I explained that I worked mornings and was unable to take another day off to take the test in the morning, and asked if I could take the test in the afternoon. He said no, that they only did tests in the morning. Begrudgingly, I agreed and set up a test for the following week He then told me that I would have to meet the instructor at the DMV and would no receive a pick up. (Pick up and drop off are part of the hefty 195$ price tag) I explained this was unacceptable and that the DMV was at least an hour and a half by public transportation. I asked for a full refund and he told me I could not receive a refund That I could only receive a refund for the driving test portion, and that 30% of that they would keep as a deposit. I told him this was unacceptable and he said he would make some calls to see if he could arrange a ride for me and call me back. 30 minutes later a woman called me and asked me if I would like to reschedule my road test. I told her yes and that there was only one day I could do it She said that was fine but to reschedule there would be a 30$ rescheduling fee. When I asked why she said I had done nothing wrong but that was their policy. When I said that I was very confused by that policy she offered no reasonable explination, just repeated "Would you like to reschedule your road test?" I said fine and asked if they would pick me up and drop me off, and she told me no, that I would have to travel to the DMV. UNACCEPTABLE. I informed her that I will be taking her to small claims court to seem damages not only for the full 195$ I paid ,but for the time I missed from work, legal and court fees. She told me that she would pass that information on to a supervisor and the supervisor would call me back the next day. The supervisor never called me back. I have spoken with an attorney and am proceeding with legal action against Nova Driving School. This business obviously has no concept of right or wrong or how to treat customers. read more

I have let my out of state driver's license expire and haven't driven for over 10 years. With a baby on its way and permit that I got last year expiring soon, I had to get a license asap. I signed up for a two two-hour class + road test. When I called to make my appointments, the person over the phone recommended me to stick to the same instructor but due to the scheduling that did not work, so I had Geno for my first class and Javier for my second and the road test. I lucked out getting the best instructors Nova had to offer! They were both amazing. Geno tested my skill in a parking lot and immediately noticed what I needed to work on. He gave clear instructions but was also funny, it was like learning from a friend which put me at ease. At the end of the test, I was able to drive back from Hyde Park to my home in downtown. He was patient enough to drive through the rush hour traffic with me. He really gave me the confidence that I could pass the test in one try. Next class was with Javier. Being up since 5 am and nervous about the test, Javier was just the instructor I needed. Kind, caring and a lot of instructions along the way to the road test center. When we got to the test center, we probably practiced about 3-4 times the route that I was going to take and also focused on parking which I needed some extra attention. He genuinely cared about me passing the test and also kept telling me to "Stay calm!" He was beside me every step of the way (except for the test, obviously) and it was funny because he knew everyone who worked at the DMV and everyone was saying hi to him, which shows his personality. Thank you Geno and Javier, I was dreading this whole process and you turned it around! Now I am looking forward to driving with my new license. read more

I am 29 and felt it was time to finally get my Drivers License, Nova was the first driving school I contacted, and they are also the highest rated company. The prices are affordable and the customer service amazing. I received email and phone reminders about my upcoming appointments. My instructor was tough but fair and I really appreciate his patience and guidance. I started Nova as an ultimate beginner. So far I have had 2 lessons and they was nothing nice about them. I had Larry as my instructor. On my first lesson he was over 30 mins late "supposedly because he couldn't find my house, and the second lesson he was like 20 minutes late which clearly is major disrespect to my time and money. I explained to him my concerns about driving considering that I have absolutely no experience behind the wheel. I told him that I was very nervous and even scared to get behind the wheel and he assured me that everything would be ok. Well in my opinion he couldn't have been more wrong. We went to a parking lot nearby both lessons and all he could focus on was was the hand over hand method. Which became more and more confusing and frustrating than ever because I felt his frustration whenever I did something wrong. Like hello how much more unprofessional can he be? As of now I'm very disappointed in Nova. It feels like a waste of time and money. SOMETHING HAS DEFINITELY GOT'S TO GIVE. This is highly unacceptable. Any teacher recommendations????????? My experience with nova driving school was the best !! The drivers are very well trained. You can tell they care about you learning how to drive vs just getting your money. My instructors were Paul and Dash I loved them both. Super funny but taught me well. I got my license my first try. I even met other instructors like nick and geno who were also nice. Finally got my license!! I got my license on the third try, and all thanks to Geno G. He did not try changing my turn styles, and worked on my problem areas, that helped me with my confidence. The last time I had different instructors but Geno G. was the best among them, so I came back for a complete course with him. He made sure I learn all the different maneuvers like parallel parking and reverse driving. He is really invested in making you a safe driver with an understanding of your temperament on the road. Apart from passing the test I feel like I can safely drive now on all types of roads. Nova driving school is very good with scheduling classes and keeping you posted of your upcoming appointments. To start from the beginning, I met Geno my instructor for eight hrs total behind the wheel . From the start I connected with him so easily. He speaks to you in a professional manner. He is patient, fun, and gets to the point. He may joke with you while diving but nevertheless he does his job and does it damn good. He made me feel so comfortable with him driving. Picked me up from home took me for my 2 hr lesson then brought me home. He gave me a couple references to help me throughout the way. He teaches you therefore he will correct you when you're not doing something right. When you are, he'll praise you. I had a hard time with my turns and he helped me perfect them. I went to this driving school in 2015 a couple months before joining the army DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT NOVA DRIVING SCHOOL. They sent the worst instructor to help me learn he barely spoke English and every time I made a mistake he would poke me in the shoulder. He made my driving anxiety so much worse and I couldn't go behind the wheel anymore. I joined the army with no license it was a waste of $800, which by the way took a whole year to save. The driving school is great ! My favorite teachers are Jennifer and Michelle ! They made me feel so comfortable and they were excellent at helping me learn quickly ! They told me I was doing great and ready for my upcoming road test ! They had a lot of faith in me and I was catching on so fast. However the day before taking the road test I got a call from nova driving school that was very discouraging, the speaker was encouraging me to not take the road test and doubt myself and choose to cancel the test for more lessons . I think it's ridiculous to doubt yourself and not take the test when you could pass . Worst case scenario if you fail just pay for more lessons ! But the speaker wanted me to pay for more lessons that I could possibly not even need ! But you should at least obviously try to pass first especially if you know you've been doing great and your teachers believe you'd pass. but anyways great school great teachers I just did not like that discouraging call I received from what ever lady that was from nova. She had no right to try to scare me out of the test and urge me to spend money on lessons I may or may not need. She should have called me after the test to see if I passed or failed and IF I failed then that would have been the best time to offer more classes to me shes the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 read more

Paul R. Is A Great Driving Instructor. He's very knowledgeable about the rules of the road & He makes sure you understand his teaching style before he continues on with lessons. He's always on time & will give you a call if he's running late. He also makes sure that you get your 2 fill hours of driving lessons. Paul R. KNOWS what he is doing & his teaching style is awesome. I give it three stars, but honestly it's the instructors that matters. I took the road test twice, thanks to Jeremiah, I passed it on the second attempt. Honestly, if I have been sticking with Jeremiah all the way through, I would have got my license way much easier and stress-free. He is the coolest guy I've met. Now in reality, I had another instructor for some classes who kept saying "you're going to flunk the road test if you do this" all the time, even before I took my road test the first time. Obviously this instructor doesn't understand how he's words has been making me more nervous and stressed instead. There's no way that you can get any encouragement from his mouth, even if you ask for it. ("Was that better than the last time?" "OK it's better" that's all you can get from him.) It's a shame that I chose him to take me to the road test the first time. It has been a nightmare to work with him. Overall, if you're going to choose this driving school, I would really recommend choosing Jeremiah for all of your lessons. read more

Marlon T is a great instructor who really knows what he is doing. I took 8 classes with him including 2 extra classes. His laid back teaching style is my preferred learning method and it really helped that he could let me drive without constantly barking at me but, still constantly remind me to check my blind spots during lane changes. I completed their "Adult Beginner" program (4*2 hours behind-the-wheel training plus exam preparation and ride to-from the DMV), and passed the road test at my first attempt. I never thought it was possible to learn to drive so quickly - and to also enjoy the process so much. Reggie was an amazing instructor, super chill, nice and very funny, and he always had a useful tip or trick to make things easier for me. He also made me practice things like parallel parking and driving on the expressway that are not tested on the exam but essential for Chicago driving. Nick, the instructor who helped me on the day of my road test was also great, patient and encouraging. Communication with the school was excellent, they were great at accommodating my last-minute scheduling requests and always sent reminders before the classes. Highly recommended! read more

I got my driver's license for the first time today with a perfect score! At 26 y/o, I had never been behind the wheel before taking lessons with Nova. The 12-hour ultimate beginner's package was a good fit for me, because I was able to get lots of driving practice before the test. I also practiced entering and exiting the highway (which gave me tremendous anxiety). Let me tell you why I feel it was just pure luck to get Darryl...not only was his demeanor easy-going... which one should not confuse with easy... After years of promises from friends and family to teach me to drive I decided to go to driving school. I chose Nova because they advertise they can teach anyone. My first lesson was with Larry. I practiced turns in a parking lot for 2 hrs. My second lesson was with Jessica. She was very unprofessional and rude. She told me I could get another instructor and that I needed two more lessons and was not ready for the road test. She provided no instruction on driving before putting me on the street and yelling at me and other cars for the entire two hours. After I complained to Maria(person who set up my courses) she called my back and said she had a new instructor named Jeremiah who was patient and understanding that could help me get back on course and prepare me for my Road test. I learned more in my third lesson(2hr) with Jeremiah than I did in the two previous 2hr session with both Larry and Jessica. Jeremiah provided clear instruction and positive correction in the areas I needed improvement. I took my Road test on Sat and passed on the first try after only 1 full two hour lesson and practice the morning of the test with Jeremiah. I hope Nova Driving school will bring in more driving instructors like Jeremiah who truly want to teach new drivers versus instructors like Jessica and Larry that want to waste peoples money and force them to pay for additional lessons. Had a great experience with Nova (Hyde Park branch). Paul R was a fantastic instructor - knowledgeable, patient & friendly, great at getting the essentials across in a fun and engaging way. He was also just great company which helped! I tend to get nervous in test situations, but Paul had the perfect mix of praise & encouragement when I did something right and pointing out areas where I needed to improve. He made sure I was prepared and confident on the day and I passed first time with no problems. More generally, the whole experience with Nova was seamless - their web interface for booking lessons is great, they send reminders and call to make sure you know everything you need to bring on the day of the test. I was an intermediate driver who started learning years ago but never got round to finishing - thanks to Nova and Paul I got my license within a couple of weeks of my first time back on the road.
