Wanted to report that Michele Edison is AWESOME and got me where I needed to be to be road test ready. I thankfully had some experience going in, but she really helped me consider things I hadn't before, and most importantly, corrected bad habits that I had learned along the way. I have obtained my license today and consider myself a success story for the driving school. The website is confusing at times, but the instructors are top quality. If you live around a location and are looking for a good driving school I would recommend it. read more

I just had trouble trying to find available dates for an adult refresher class and the agent was trying to find my availability and it turns out that Nicole from Nova school found me some dates in late August, after being reviewed the same day by my boss, I was at work all day, Nicole told me I had until the end of day to pay and mind me I am still at work, she wouldn't confirm the dates and the name of my instructor- Needless to say I will have to Hard pass on that driving school that I feel has a total lack of consideration for their clients times and schedule! Now I have requested these dates off for nothing! And I can't change them ! That's unacceptable! My time is limited and I will not go ahead with this driving school! read more

I've had a frustrating experience with this company. When I paid for an ultimate beginner package, I was expecting a series of lessons designed for a beginner driver. What I got was the ability to book lessons online with instructors who vary in experience, professionalism, and teaching ability. My first instructor cancelled an hour before the first lesson by text message - I was leaving work early to get there and just happened to check my phone - and tried to change the next lesson at the last minute. The lesson - during which I mainly sat in the passenger seat - ended 15 minutes early because she had to drive back to the school to meet another student whose lesson started exactly when mine ended. I requested more experienced instructors who did help me learn how to drive. But the schedule is very limited - I found instructors I liked, but was only able to book lessons a couple of weeks apart. Not great when learning a new skill, especially when you don't have your own car to practice with. You pay the whole $700 upfront, and it felt like the company had zero interest or incentive in actually helping me get a driver's license once I handed them my credit card. The good? I can now operate a motor vehicle. The bad? I'm out $700 with no driver's license to show for it, and I've heard nothing from this 'school' about the road test - the experience has been frustrating, like I was completely on my own to try to make it work. read more

Unprofessional instructors, please don't waste your time and money signing up for Nova. I made the mistake of signing up for adult driving classes. However the instructor didn't show up at all for two days in a row without any advance notice. The ironic thing is that doing the same thing as a customer will incur a 60 $ fine. The management just cares about the reviews and not the actual service. I was contacted by the supervisor and assured about the second class, and even then a different instructor also didn't show up the second second class. Also the supervisor gave me the wrong extension number when I received a call from them about the issue. read more

Let me say this. The actual instructors can only do so. This company is a piece of sh*t. I've been back and forth with "managers" for months and have gotten no where. In the middle of a pandemic while just giving birth to my second child and planning a wedding. Me and my husband have put together $1200 to pay for this program after buying our first car. None of us were taken on the highway or taught to parallel park. Which is pretty much how you get around in Chicago. So we spent all of this money to learn how to drive in a parking lot. That's not worth it to me. Yes we passed at the DMV but anyone can pass there so you don't need them. Trust me, save your money EDIT: DO NOT be fooled the refund was only $20 after their driver was verbally abusive after the lesson and physically touching me as well. That $20 was only for me, nothing for my husband. LIKE I SAID we paid $1200!!! read more

I posted my experience 12 days ago. Just got off the phone with a "supervisor". Someone replied to my last comment saying to please give them a call. So I did. Instead of listening and understanding, the conversation got heated. I know my sessions were a year ago. They kept repeating that and said i should have told them my concerns right away. In my last comment i mentioned that i have gone through a lot. I did not want to get into detail but i was so frustrated i told them what it was... and i will mention it now. The reason why i didn't reach out right away is that i had 3 back to back miscarriages. After saying this, the supervisor still was saying i should have contacted them right away to resolve this. Really? And then he said "what do you want from us? What offer do you want??" And i was so frustrated i just said at this point NOTHING. I was expecting at least a sincere apology. And yet again, after a year, they spoke to me in a condescending way. I didn't even want to call them. I just called them because whoever commented on my last post said so and I was curious on what they had to say. I posted my last comment for people to know my experience not to be "lectured" by the supervisor. Very disappointing. Never calling them again. They are all nice when they are asking for payments but when you actually request something or bring up concerns, they become insensitive and rude. Don't ask us to call you guys if you are just going to disappoint again. And don't say I should have contacted you guys last year. Look back on our email exchange. I brought this up right after the incident and you guys did not do anything about it. read more

I'm having a horrible experience so far. I don't want to continue my lessons. My advice to anyone is not to purchase any packages. If you want to use the service despite any negative review, purchase one session and make a decision from there. My third lesson was lackluster. I was expecting to be behind the wheel for the *majority* of the time. I didn't even get an hour. They are also unorganized. Someone from the service by the name of Kirvy contacted me about rescheduling an appointment from 8:30am to 10:30am. Well that doesn't exactly sound like a problem unless you know that I never had anything set for 8:30am. The original appointment was for 11:00am. I also asked Kirvy twice about getting a partial refund. They ignored me. I was extremely disappointed because I had invested so much money into learning. I'm excited about getting on the road and I want to do well. I paid for a service and want to get my money's worth. I also had an inappropriate instructor that kept touching me and calling me honey. If you decide to use the service and find an instructor that you really like ask to stick with them. I wish that I read the reviews first... read more

I booked a package on the phone with a representative and paid the fee while on the phone via quick pay. My instructor didn't show up first day of lessons. No call, no text, not a word. I had to call Nova to let them know that my instructor never came. They had no idea the driver never showed up and eventually told me that there had been a car issue. Okay, so why wasn't I notified? Updating this review and rating to two stars because they completed my refund and offered two hours of free lessons in the instance that I do book with them again. read more

I took three sessions plus Road Test with Nova Driving School @ Hyde Park. Michele Edison was my instructor for all lessons & my Road Test! Not only was Michele knowledgeable about the Rules of the Road, but she was also VERY patient with me! She provided me with all the tools necessary I needed to pass my road test and today I did just that! I PASSED THANKS TO NOVA & MICHELE EDISON! 2/6/21 Side note: I have never driven on the expressway EVER and I'm 25 years old. Michele asked me one day how I felt about the expressway and even though I was hesitant, she believed I could do it and we got on a before you know it I went from 95th & the Dan Ryan all the way to 43rd! I thank Michele so much! This entire experience was worth all the dollars I spent. read more

I honestly want to say this is the best driving school in the Chicago land area. I couldn't drive at all and was so nervous to start. I requested the ultimate beginner class 12hr btw and road test I honestly believe I have two of the best instructors in the whole school. First Jeremiah one of the coolest and professional teachers around. Worked with me so much and sent videos for me to study so I can be a great driver. And my second instructor was Lawrence great guy. Really help me with my turning left and right. I honestly would say ask from Jeremiah and lawrence they will teach you right and make you a better driver It was a awesome experience with nova and I can say I received my license on the first try. read more

One of my instructors was on an absolute power trip. If I asked him a question he'd say "What were the rules? Follow the instructions". Well I can't follow the instructions if I don't know what they are. Overall, pretty bad experience. Go get someone else to teach you. read more

If I could give a negative score I would. They were unbelievably messy with their business. The only way to make an appointment is by calling them (they'll tell you you could also schedule online, but you won't find an open slot there). On average I waited more than 30 minutes before a representative picked up the phone. I don't understand why they are so slow even the social security administration could do better. The worst part: they canceled my behind-the-wheel class WITHOUT LETTING ME KNOW. NO CALL, NO EMAIL, NO VOICE MESSAGE, NO TEXT, NO NOTHING. I planned my day around their VERY LIMITED availability and this is how they treated me. F**king ridiculous! I'm ready to ask for a refund. I cannot comment on the instruction because I will never know. If you are looking for a driving school, look elsewhere. At least find someone who would pick up their phone and would let you know if they need to reschedule :) read more

I had my 3rd lesson with Michelle Edison. She was extremely nice. Before we started she told me things about the car before driving cause every car is different. I have literally never written a review for anything in my life but I had to write a review for this place since I got SO frustrated! I purchased the beginner 8hr behind-the-wheel package, no pick-up since I live nearby their office. First off, they were so messy with setting up my lessons. After 2 days of having paid for my course, I still did not have access to the online calendar to book driving lessons. I had to call them to set up my lessons and the earliest availability they had was a month away! Okay, sure. A month later, the week before my lessons, I kept getting calls from them asking me to take an earlier appointment, like an hour or even 20 minutes later the same day (I'm guessing because they had last minute cancels and wanted to fill me in those spots). I tried to be flexible, but still, I had work duties that had to be planned around their limited availability to begin with. So messy! But that's not even the worst of it. The instructors are not helpful! I took 2 lessons with Careel and 1 with another guy I never got his name. They gave absolutely minimum feedback (they just sit in the car quiet most of the time, one time Careel blasted music while I was driving so I was discouraged from asking questions). They also made jokes, criticized me harshly, and made me feel incredibly stressed out while driving on the road. I had barely any experience in a car growing up, so a lot of things that might seem "common sense" does not come to me naturally. I had hoped taking a structured class will provide me with those skills. But no! Besides the basics of turning right and left, or general guidelines of how to position the car, I didn't learn anything useful. I was left after every lesson feeling down, stupid, and doubtful that I would ever be able to drive. In fact, I got so frustrated after my third lesson that I cancelled my last one and rescheduled it for as far out as I could. I deeply regret spending money on this course. I hope others have more luck than I do. read more

I would highly recommend Michele Edison! She is extremely hard working, conscientious, knowledgeable, and will go extra mile to teach you more. She has a way to break things down into easy small do-able steps and takes into consideration that different students have different learning styles and is able to accommodate them accordingly. Most of all, she will go out of her way to help you be well prepared for the road test. She contacted me the day before the road test, talked about ways that could result in automatic failures and ways to avoid that. During the practice before the road test, she was extremely patient and encouraging. I was a nervous wreck, but she had a way to calm me down and boost my confidence. Thanks to her, I got to pass the test the first time read more

I took my first class with Lawrence and next two classes with Darryl. I found both the instructors to be very friendly and at the same, I was really impressed by their ability to provide honest feedback during the lessons. The practice at DMV before the actual road test really helped and I am thankful to Darryl for giving all the tips and boosting my morale. It was great to see that the instructors actually care about their students passing the exam and are always willing to go the extra mile to make it happen. I am fully satisfied with the service and I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get their license. read more

I had a great experience with Nova! Before coming to Nova, I had lessons from another driving school but the lessons were cancelled all the time and sometimes he just didn't come not even giving me a notice. After lessons being delayed for so long, I decided to look for another school and found Nova! Nova is really organized with scheduling, always sending a reminder. Even before I enrolled, the person on the phone was very helpful in answering my questions and thoroughly explaining. The best part was my instructor, Geno G. He's truly awesome! It was fun learning from him and he really helps you until you get it. I was losing confidence but I was able to gain back some confidence having lessons with Geno and got my license! Fun fact. I've never driven before EVER. Having lived in the city all my life, I just got used to commuting around with buses & trains like most of us do. Having recently moved to the suburbs & working a good 30 minutes away from home, it was time to learn. Enter Nova Driving School. I took the complete package - from getting my permit, to 6 behind the wheel classes. Yes, that "Ultimate Beginner" package too. The permit class was wonderful & I aced the written on my first try! My behind the wheel lessons followed just days later... & I met my instructor Paul, who would show me the ropes. I was truly not experienced at all & quite the ball of nerves, but with each & every lesson, Paul was wonderful - providing encouragement & helping me build my confidence. If there was anything I felt I needed more instruction on, he was more than willing to help me until I felt comfortable. I'm extremely happy to say that I got through my road test & my license today! Thanks SO very much Nova & Paul for helping me each step of the way! read more

These guys offer a great (& reasonably-priced) package for adult drivers who already have a license in another country. Two years ago, I signed up for a one hour driving course and used their car for my road test right after. Today, I finished a short motorcycle course with them and used their motorcycle. I easily passed both tests on my first attempt. The short courses gave me lots of confidence because we went through and practiced the entire road test in advance. The staff at the Nova offices were also very helpful, and they both called and emailed to confirm my session times + details. Last but not the least, I'd like to especially recommend Reggie who was informative, professional, and a great instructor overall. read more

Nova driving school was a great experience, wherein the team and my driving instructor were organized in setting up the entire practice schedule. My package consisted of 3 driving sessions of 2 hours each, with the Driving test on the 3rd day Driving Instructor: Mr. Luis P In short, I would like to indicate positives n negatives about Nova Driving Classes. Positives: . * Very well organized schedule, ready to comply if the customer schedule changes * Driving instructor was on time during every practice session and very patient * Instructor elaborated what the various rules of driving were in theory, before the practice sessions commenced * Vehicle used for practice was very good and clean * Instructor conducted mock driving test sessions in the DMV campus, which was very helpful * Instructor accompanied me in the DMV office to help with application process Negatives: * Other than driving on streets and DMV facility mockups, I would have loved to practice parking and parallel parking a little in all the sessions. I had to request Luis 2-3 times that I want to learn parallel parking after which he showed me on the last day * Nova Driving school can even use sedans for their practice sessions, as most of the people driving in US are using SUVs or sedans read more

I had my 4th lesson with Michelle Edison. She was very detailed and gave lots of pointers.

I learned about Nova from a friend and couldn't have been happier with the coaching I received from Lawrence. He is one of the nicest people around - funny, friendly, and just a charm to work with. It's clear that he puts in extra effort to make you feel comfortable at the wheel while making the 2-hour drives enjoyable and entertaining with his lively conversations. The last time I drove was about 15 years ago as an adolescent and I never got my license, so I was apprehensive I would be able to get my license after only 6 lessons. However, I am pleased to have gotten my license just in time for graduation from med school and am ready to drive to my new job as a resident physician! Thank you so much, Lawrence! read more

I am so grateful for Nova! I was so nervous about driving and skeptical about paying for lessons but this experience was worth every hard earned penny of mine. At home pick up/drop off is a huge plus and made the process so convenient. I felt so safe in the car and behind the wheel with Darryl "Dash" who was very patient and gave very honest feedback during the lessons. I knew if I failed the test it was because of my own anxiety.
