I thankfully had some experience going in, but she really helped me consider things I hadn't before, and most importantly, corrected bad habits that I had learned along the way. I've had a frustrating experience with this company. When I paid for an ultimate beginner package, I was expecting a series of lessons designed for a beginner driver. What I got was the ability to book lessons online with instructors who vary in experience, professionalism, and teaching ability. My first instructor cancelled an hour before the first lesson by text message - I was leaving work early to get there and just happened to check my phone - and tried to change the next lesson at the last minute. The lesson - during which I mainly sat in the passenger seat - ended 15 minutes early because she had to drive back to the school to meet another student whose lesson started exactly when mine ended. I requested more experienced instructors who did help me learn how to drive. But the schedule is very limited - I found instructors I liked, but was only able to book lessons a couple of weeks apart. Not great when learning a new skill, especially when you don't have your own car to practice with. You pay the whole $700 upfront, and it felt like the company had zero interest or incentive in actually helping me get a driver's license once I handed them my credit card. The good? I can now operate a motor vehicle. The bad? I'm out $700 with no driver's license to show for it, and I've heard nothing from this 'school' about the road test - the experience has been frustrating, like I was completely on my own to try to make it work. read more

Unprofessional instructors, please don't waste your time and money signing up for Nova. I made the mistake of signing up for adult driving classes. However the instructor didn't show up at all for two days in a row without any advance notice. The ironic thing is that doing the same thing as a customer will incur a 60 $ fine. The management just cares about the reviews and not the actual service. I was contacted by the supervisor and assured about the second class, and even then a different instructor also didn't show up the second second class. Also the supervisor gave me the wrong extension number when I received a call from them about the issue. read more

I posted my experience 12 days ago. Just got off the phone with a "supervisor". Someone replied to my last comment saying to please give them a call. So I did. Instead of listening and understanding, the conversation got heated. I know my sessions were a year ago. They kept repeating that and said i should have told them my concerns right away. In my last comment i mentioned that i have gone through a lot. I did not want to get into detail but i was so frustrated i told them what it was... and i will mention it now. The reason why i didn't reach out right away is that i had 3 back to back miscarriages. After saying this, the supervisor still was saying i should have contacted them right away to resolve this. Really? And then he said "what do you want from us? What offer do you want??" And i was so frustrated i just said at this point NOTHING. I was expecting at least a sincere apology. And yet again, after a year, they spoke to me in a condescending way. I didn't even want to call them. I just called them because whoever commented on my last post said so and I was curious on what they had to say. I posted my last comment for people to know my experience not to be "lectured" by the supervisor. Very disappointing. Never calling them again. They are all nice when they are asking for payments but when you actually request something or bring up concerns, they become insensitive and rude. Don't ask us to call you guys if you are just going to disappoint again. And don't say I should have contacted you guys last year. Look back on our email exchange. Let me say this. The actual instructors can only do so. This company is a piece of sh*t. I've been back and forth with "managers" for months and have gotten no where. In the middle of a pandemic while just giving birth to my second child and planning a wedding. Me and my husband have put together $1200 to pay for this program after buying our first car. None of us were taken on the highway or taught to parallel park. Which is pretty much how you get around in Chicago. So we spent all of this money to learn how to drive in a parking lot. That's not worth it to me. Yes we passed at the DMV but anyone can pass there so you don't need them. Trust me, save your money EDIT: DO NOT be fooled the refund was only $20 after their driver was verbally abusive after the lesson and physically touching me as well. I'm having a horrible experience so far. I don't want to continue my lessons. My advice to anyone is not to purchase any packages. If you want to use the service despite any negative review, purchase one session and make a decision from there. My third lesson was lackluster. I was expecting to be behind the wheel for the *majority* of the time. I didn't even get an hour. They are also unorganized. Someone from the service by the name of Kirvy contacted me about rescheduling an appointment from 8:30am to 10:30am. Well that doesn't exactly sound like a problem unless you know that I never had anything set for 8:30am. The original appointment was for 11:00am. I also asked Kirvy twice about getting a partial refund. They ignored me. I was extremely disappointed because I had invested so much money into learning. I'm excited about getting on the road and I want to do well. I paid for a service and want to get my money's worth. I also had an inappropriate instructor that kept touching me and calling me honey. I booked a package on the phone with a representative and paid the fee while on the phone via quick pay. My instructor didn't show up first day of lessons. No call, no text, not a word. I had to call Nova to let them know that my instructor never came. They had no idea the driver never showed up and eventually told me that there had been a car issue. Okay, so why wasn't I notified? Updating this review and rating to two stars because they completed my refund and offered two hours of free lessons in the instance that I do book with them again. read more

I took three sessions plus Road Test with Nova Driving School @ Hyde Park. Michele Edison was my instructor for all lessons & my Road Test! Not only was Michele knowledgeable about the Rules of the Road, but she was also VERY patient with me! She provided me with all the tools necessary I needed to pass my road test and today I did just that! I PASSED THANKS TO NOVA & MICHELE EDISON! 2/6/21 Side note: I have never driven on the expressway EVER and I'm 25 years old. Michele asked me one day how I felt about the expressway and even though I was hesitant, she believed I could do it and we got on a before you know it I went from 95th & the Dan Ryan all the way to 43rd! I honestly want to say this is the best driving school in the Chicago land area. I couldn't drive at all and was so nervous to start. I requested the ultimate beginner class 12hr btw and road test I honestly believe I have two of the best instructors in the whole school. First Jeremiah one of the coolest and professional teachers around. Worked with me so much and sent videos for me to study so I can be a great driver. And my second instructor was Lawrence great guy. Really help me with my turning left and right. If I could give a negative score I would. They were unbelievably messy with their business. The only way to make an appointment is by calling them (they'll tell you you could also schedule online, but you won't find an open slot there). On average I waited more than 30 minutes before a representative picked up the phone. I don't understand why they are so slow even the social security administration could do better. The worst part: they canceled my behind-the-wheel class WITHOUT LETTING ME KNOW. NO CALL, NO EMAIL, NO VOICE MESSAGE, NO TEXT, NO NOTHING. I planned my day around their VERY LIMITED availability and this is how they treated me. F**king ridiculous! I'm ready to ask for a refund. I cannot comment on the instruction because I will never know. If you are looking for a driving school, look elsewhere. At least find someone who would pick up their phone and would let you know if they need to reschedule :) read more

I have literally never written a review for anything in my life but I had to write a review for this place since I got SO frustrated! I purchased the beginner 8hr behind-the-wheel package, no pick-up since I live nearby their office. First off, they were so messy with setting up my lessons. After 2 days of having paid for my course, I still did not have access to the online calendar to book driving lessons. I had to call them to set up my lessons and the earliest availability they had was a month away! Okay, sure. A month later, the week before my lessons, I kept getting calls from them asking me to take an earlier appointment, like an hour or even 20 minutes later the same day (I'm guessing because they had last minute cancels and wanted to fill me in those spots). I tried to be flexible, but still, I had work duties that had to be planned around their limited availability to begin with. So messy! But that's not even the worst of it. The instructors are not helpful! I took 2 lessons with Careel and 1 with another guy I never got his name. They gave absolutely minimum feedback (they just sit in the car quiet most of the time, one time Careel blasted music while I was driving so I was discouraged from asking questions). They also made jokes, criticized me harshly, and made me feel incredibly stressed out while driving on the road. I had barely any experience in a car growing up, so a lot of things that might seem "common sense" does not come to me naturally. I had hoped taking a structured class will provide me with those skills. But no! Besides the basics of turning right and left, or general guidelines of how to position the car, I didn't learn anything useful. I was left after every lesson feeling down, stupid, and doubtful that I would ever be able to drive. In fact, I got so frustrated after my third lesson that I cancelled my last one and rescheduled it for as far out as I could. I deeply regret spending money on this course. I would highly recommend Michele Edison! She is extremely hard working, conscientious, knowledgeable, and will go extra mile to teach you more. She has a way to break things down into easy small do-able steps and takes into consideration that different students have different learning styles and is able to accommodate them accordingly. Most of all, she will go out of her way to help you be well prepared for the road test. She contacted me the day before the road test, talked about ways that could result in automatic failures and ways to avoid that. During the practice before the road test, she was extremely patient and encouraging. I was a nervous wreck, but she had a way to calm me down and boost my confidence. Fun fact. I've never driven before EVER. Having lived in the city all my life, I just got used to commuting around with buses & trains like most of us do. Having recently moved to the suburbs & working a good 30 minutes away from home, it was time to learn. Enter Nova Driving School. My behind the wheel lessons followed just days later... & I met my instructor Paul, who would show me the ropes. I was truly not experienced at all & quite the ball of nerves, but with each & every lesson, Paul was wonderful - providing encouragement & helping me build my confidence. These guys offer a great (& reasonably-priced) package for adult drivers who already have a license in another country. Two years ago, I signed up for a one hour driving course and used their car for my road test right after. Today, I finished a short motorcycle course with them and used their motorcycle. I easily passed both tests on my first attempt. The short courses gave me lots of confidence because we went through and practiced the entire road test in advance. The staff at the Nova offices were also very helpful, and they both called and emailed to confirm my session times + details.
