I am very particular about who I let work on my vehicles. It can be difficult to find honest mechanics at times. The owners and the employees here are stand-up guys and I would trust them with any mechanical issue that I may have. The mechanic (Shayne) consulted with me and made things very comprehensible as I am not very mechanically inclined. This place will ripped you off and tell you that you need this and that. After you are ready to drive the car it is still not running and you paid over $1000. Watch them or find another mechanic. Notts is a family owned & operated auto repair shop that treats each customer like family! Recently took my Ford F150 in for a front end mechanical repair as a "walk-in" without an appointment and the owner and staff worked on the truck and returned it the same day "No Charge Due"! The local Ford dealership could find not any problem, but Notts diagnosed and corrected the problem! The service was courteous, prompt, & professional with good communication. This review is a long time coming, however, none the less worthy of a five star rating. I had an on-going hesitation issue with my 1989 Dodge Ram B350 campervan, which had developed a hesitation following a repair from another facility in another state. I drove for nearly 4,000, miles and stopped at 8 separate repair facilities across the United States, including two Dodge dealerships. Not one could diagnose my hesitation problem. I spent close to two-thousand dollars in repairs while unqualified mechanical specialists replaced parts hoping to resolve my issue. Unfortunately none were successful. After having spent many thousand dollars at this point, how could I turn back? I was determined to have my hesitation issue diagnosed and resolved. Finally, while in Sarasota, I went on Yelp and saw the one review for Notts Automotive. I called and felt very comfortable with Trey, the owner. I told him I had some parts and wanted him to install them. He asked no questions and simply gave me his labor rate. While at his shop, I was able to chat with him about my "problem". I told him about my many experiences and lack of resolve. He graciously allowed me to examine the work that was being done, which gained my confidence in his ability to resolve my on-going issue. Unfortunately the parts I had asked him to install did not resolve my problem. But before I left, head hanging low, Trey told me that he could figure out my problem. With relief and a bit of doubt, I allowed him to pursue the daunting task of diagnosing. Within 1 hour, Trey was back before me with the answer to my ongoing hesitation dilemma. I apparently had a splice in my fuel line, resulting from the original fuel pump replacement that I had initially had done when the problem first occurred. He also found several vacuum leaks within a matter of seconds. Anyway, long story short, Trey had done what no other shop or specialist had been able to do. He had resolved my hesitation. And my van now runs great!! I could not be happier! And for that I am indebted and forever grateful. I now take any and all repairs to Notts Automotive. Notts is not a shop that relies strictly on computer diagnosis or the changing out of parts, as so many of today's shops rely on. He and his mechanics are actually that, mechanics. They are truly specialists. They KNOW auto mechanics. What ever year your vehicle, these guys will find what ails your car. They are trust worthy and will resolve your mechanical issue, no matter what it is. Even if you have given up. They will figure out what the issue is. It is hard to find a good, trustworthy auto mechanic in today's society. But you can trust Notts Automotive. I won't go anywhere else. read more

I highly recommend Nott's to everyone. I made the mistake of going to the dealer for some repairs because I had a coupon for a free oil change. After agreeing to some work, all of a sudden they "discovered" some other things that needed to be done which included a part they wanted $552 which I was able to procure for $300 less. (Both, BTW, were rebuilt.) The dealer also misdiagnosed several other issues and estimated exorbitant charges. I'm relatively new to Sarasota so I asked my real estate agent's associate for an alternative/ a recommendation. Lucky me! She recommended Nott's Automotive. Mr. Nott fixed all my car problems and I believe at a much fairer price. I'll never take my car to anyplace but Nott's. read more

DO NOT LET THIS SHOP WORK ON YOUR VEHICLE UNTIL YOU GET A WRITTEN ESTIMATE. YOU ARE ENTITLED TO A DETAILED ESTIMATE IN ADVANCE UNDER FLORIDA LAW. READ THE SUMMARY OF YOUR RIGHTS ON THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE WEBSITE. Otherwise, you may have the same disappointing experience. I have used this shop twice, once for a brake job and a second time for a shifter cable. On BOTH occasions they did not provide the required estimate. On BOTH occasions the bill was higher than reasonable. On the first occasion, they claimed they did not know about the required estimate (otherwise they have no right to payment). I provided them a copy of the statute. They assured me they would comply. We resolved the bill (I believe) amicably and the overcharges for "shop supplies", etc, were removed, in addition to a reduction in the labor charge. So, I gave them a second chance, based on their representation that they were a "honest family" shop. Well, guess what? On the second occasion, again, they gave me no estimate. The car was left after-hours and under the law they were required to provide the estimate after "diagnosis" (which was unnecessary since I asked for the cable to be replaced). When I received the bill I did not have my reading glasses and I am more than 70 years old. I paid the bill but after reviewing it, I noted that: there was a charge for "shop supplies" of $35 not discussed or approved; the part was billed at double its cost and at least 50% higher than the other shops I telephoned; and the total was at least 30% above reasonable HIGH market prices. I telephoned the licensing agency, The Ag Dept, and they advised that I had no obligation to pay the bill in the amount charged if the shop did not comply in all respects with the statute. So, I stopped payment and wrote a letter to Notts detailing my dissatisfaction and offering to pay the bill without the "shop supplies" charge and with a reduction in the cost of the part. In response, the owner telephoned and threatened to have me charged with a crime, claimed they had a "RIGHT TO CHARGE ANYTHING THEY WANT" with regard to parts and further claimed that they had "posted a sign" on the premises about the "shop supplies" charges. For the first time I was told their labor rate was $110 an hour and the "book time" was 1.8 hours which I did not dispute. Working people are entitled to fair compensation for their time. She also claimed that I was just attempting to "cheat" them and that I had supposedly received a "verbal estimate from Mark" before the repairs. This was very simply untrue. I did not appreciate her tone of voice and agreed to pay her bill just to shut her up reserving the right to pursue all legal remedies, including not using her "honest family" business in the future. These disputes could have been avoided if they just complied with the law, but apparently they have no interest in doing so. BEWARE. GET A WRITTEN ESTIMATE AND MAKE THEM STICK WITH IT. YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO THAT ESTIMATE OR THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO PAYMENT OR TO WITHHOLD YOUR CAR. read more

My wife and I moved here to Florida from SC in June of 2015. We decided to start a new life here from scratch. By trade I am a welder/fitter/fabricator with a mechanical background in hydraulic systems and repair, however, I'm not a mechanic on foreign cars. A transmission, while complex in the gear system is still a hydraulic system. To my knowledge, even in the most complex systems, there are relatively 3 issues to cause failure, if the gears themselves are not broken. 1. Electrical issues. 2. Mechanical issues within the valve body that do not allow the fluids to flow correctly. 3. The wrong type of fluid. (These fluids have different weights, and if it is not heavy enough, the system does not work) My wife Christina drives a 2001 Audi A6 Quattro, and needed a few repairs from normal wear and tear (brakes). Not knowing where to go that is legit, my step father suggested Notts Automotive because they were a Christian owned company. So since July/August of 2015 they have been doing maintenance on my wife's car with no issues until October 2016. My wife's transmission went out on her car which also is a multimatic. At the same time incoming Hurricane Matthew. The transmission was going to be coming from Miami. That transmission came with a 6 month warranty. The total came to $3800 with the agreement of being able to make payments but half had to be paid to pick up the car when it was finished. We sold the furniture in our home to make that happen as I was laid off from work. My wife kept in contact with the owners wife Jennifer to keep her informed of what was happening but the clutch solenoid kept throwing a code, the same code that caused the other transmission to burn up in the first place, and we kept taking back every month. They kept telling my wife that everything is fine, the transmission is shifting and they put a conditioner in it and cleared the codes. 20 miles later check engine light came on again every time, same code. So as we are nearing the 6 month mark they want to play games with my wife and tell her that they would have to find out how much more this was going to cost and would call her back. No one called my wife for 2 weeks. So, I called and spoke with Trey, the owner of the company. I admit, I lost my temper, but as a fellow business owner, I hoped I had gotten my point across. They were going to order another transmission and had me bring my wife's car back. We dropped it off April 11, 2017 and she asked would it be ready for pick up on Thursday and was told that would only give them 2 days to work on it and that's not enough time. Friday my wife called to check the status of the car and an employee, Mark asked her to call Monday to get a definite time that the car would be ready. My wife called Monday only to be told they haven't started on it yet because they have been extremely busy. We drove by yesterday, April 19 and I was told that it would be the 28th before it could be worked on, and then Jennifer said they were not going to release the car until the entire bill was paid off ($1400 still is left and it's getting paid a little at a time because her business is slow but picking up and I've started working on my own) That was not what was agreed upon in the beginning. My wife got her key back and told them she was not going to be without her car like that and she cannot afford to be without her car like that. Jennifer stated that the warranty is out already (which it wasn't according to the 6 month warranty) and threw out there was 6 month or 6,000 miles. NOBODY said 6,000 miles at all. There are two things I personally have an issue with here. First, integrity. In my world of trade, it is either done right, or it is not. Sometimes, a lot of people can be hurt by negligence, or flat out laziness, because like most, I too have codes and guidelines that I must go by. The fact that they had to order a second transmission because, and I quote "numbers didn't match", and the excuses that I get of why the work cant be done correctly or in a timely manner causes me to question their competency.
