My daughter has been attending Notre Dame for several years, and each year we have encountered the same unacceptable issue. Staff member Asunción Abrego Galeana, known as "Tia," has repeatedly singled out and targeted my daughter, issuing her dress code violations for skirts and shorts that were the same length--or in many cases, longer--than those worn by her peers, who were not penalized. This repeated and unjust scrutiny has left my daughter feeling insecure and confused, questioning what is supposedly "wrong" with her clothing when it clearly meets or exceeds the standards applied to others. This pattern of unfair treatment is deeply concerning and has cast a shadow over her entire experience at Notre Dame. It is disheartening that one individual's actions have created such a hostile and discouraging environment for students. Speak to any student, and you will hear the same story--this behavior is not isolated, and it is damaging to both the school's reputation and the well-being of its students. read more

My son graduated this year 2023. I couldn't be happier with the support and care from all teachers and staff. Talk about great environment! Very respectful kids, they all say hi when they see you walking around. Our family has grown with long time friendships just being a ND parent. It was truly an investment for life! Notre Dame is an excellent high school with a wonderful community of school staff, parents and students. We have six children and three have already graduated. All three children were accepted into the four year universities (of their choice) and thrived in college. Our three younger children will also all attend Notre Dame High School. read this all incoming families(especially my sports families). I am a former student from Notre Dame. the school it self is not what it used to be.i had an older cousin that went there and I remember ND being a pride full school and having a name to stand on. The school had prideful things about them like winning CIF titles in all sports, school spirit, and a fun campus life, but after letting a former cheer coach and a tech guy become principle and president of the school it all went down hill. They cleared house of all CIF winning title coaches and do not try to give no funding towards any sports programs. Admin has neglected all sports and have left all the teams weaing old gear that is out dated. the school hasn't gotten new football helmets since 2012. On top of fundraising for the new helmets that we never got and never saw where the money went. But they had Money to install big screens on walls that are never looked at and field lights that are rarely used. They have an old athletic gym that has nothing but dust and dead roaches everywhere. There has been multiple complaints about where fund raising money would go because it never went to the sport that raised it but admin never explains it self. There is always something shady happening behind the scenes at Notre Dame and no one on admin is who they make them selfs to be. If you are looking for a good athletic high school do not go to ND. Notre dame is not there old programs and are a joke. Admin has neglected all sports to the point where they have made their own programs into a joke. With having JV size teams, as they're varsity teams. On top of never having a solid coaching staff, all the head coaches do is leave from ND so just let that be a sign. I mean 7 different head coaches in 3 years speak Alot. No one takes ND as a serious opponent. So if you want your child to strive in sports do no send him to Notre Dame High School. The school campus culture is a joke and no one enjoys being there. Most of the teachers at Notre Dame are amazing though I do have to say. teachers take their work very serious and are always working to grow a relationship amongst the students, but the teachers are not the problem. But as I said most. The others are inappropriate with students and growing relationship between a teacher and a student that shouldn't be there, and tend to try use their power of authority to get students in trouble. When I was there it just felt like I had to keep my head on a swivel. I was able to form a good theater group with my theatre teacher and have a good theater shows, but admin never failed to ruin something. Mrs.Ashton, and Mr.Johnston both are head of admin there and let me say they are not fit for the job. They worry more about what different jackets people are wearing and make inappropriate comments toward students and use their authority to win most battles. just as an example the principle Mrs,Ashton will call out students about dress code while she wasn't is her own dress code walking around school in work out clothes and a Starbucks drinks. They tend to worry bout things that don't matter, instead of focusing on things to make the school better. like there terrible restroom that's have dead roaches very where, broken stall doors that never got fixed and the consistent smell of urine from the restrooms but is neglected. As the closer Notre Dame Admin has no loyalty toward families especially reoccurring families make you feel like you're just another number and income for the school to benefit. It seems as if admin runs and treats all families as "a do a I say' attitude in stead of what they preach about the Cor unum and their catholic faith. So if you're looking for a high school that's will respect your family and appreciate your child this is not the school to come to. read more

I decided to review NDHS because I graduated from there in 2007, my sister graduated in 2012, and my brother is currently a junior. We weren't "Riverside Catholic School" kids, with the exception of my brother for 7th and 8th grade. We got along at this school just fine. For the small classroom sizes, variety of clubs, organizations, and sports, and the professors that actually care, the school is worth paying a fee for (not sure if the amount is just, but it is an education worth money). I must note, I did witness bullying at this school, where faculty could have done more. In terms of being a "college prep" school, it may be for some people, but it wasn't for me. As a first generation Mexican-American college student, I was clueless in undergrad-- from financial aid to Algebra. The only factor that did prepare me was Mrs. Heins and Dr. Prizure's English classes, thank God for those women. Now, as a graduate student, I look back and see that there were many resources available, however because I didn't know who or what to ask, I didn't benefit. I would encourage any parent to be very involved in their child's education at this school. Recently, I had an experience with Beverly from the tuition department in regards to my younger brother's Junior year. She was very pleasant and very fair, but it's obvious that if parents/families are unfamiliar with private school systems, they will be completely lost. Since Mr. Luttringer has taken over, it seems like the school has improved cosmetically. Even some fundamentals have evolved with slogans like "the Notre Dame Difference." Yet, I remain disappointed in some of the stories my brother tells me about school. True, kids will be kids, but I questions some of the sports coaches and subs that the school brings in. I even question some of the faculty. $8,500 is not a cheap price to pay for high school yearly tuition and I do expect a little more for the sacrifices that families make to send their kids here. Overall, it's a good school, but there is room for improvement; the kind of improvement that doesn't require a hike in tuition, but perhaps, an increased awareness by the adults on campus. PS- The other Yelp comments on this page, are a perfect example of what kind of "bullying" goes on. Even some of the parents are bullies. My oldest is graduating this month and we could not be happier to be done with this school. I am sad to say that this "Catholic based college prep school" is a joke. They did not prep my child for college, they did not help her in anyway with college apps or SATs, we had to do it on our own. What my children learned from this school is that the popular kids get to bully everyone else, the best place to smoke vapes and pot are in the boys locker room or the Nixson parking lot and that all rules are basically just for show and do not apply to everyone. The school does not communicate with the church and their activities are sometimes on the same day as important church obligation dates. For example, my son had to miss his homecoming game and dance because he was on confirmation retreat, really!? My son has 2 more years of school and they will not be wasted on ND. We have spent enough of our hard earned money on what we thought was the best education choice for our children. Save your money parents, all it does is pay for the salaries of the President, the principal , the 2 assistant principals and did I mention there is under 500 students, what the hell do they need so many big wigs for!?! read more

To the lady that is unhappy: I'm sorry to hear your child has slipped through the cracks, where is your child now? Is she at a big 10 school? Notre Dame is a wonderful college prep school, they did a wonderful job of prepping my children for college, they have graduated from wonderful universities such as USC. One of my children is currently attending and whenever we have a problem Mr. Luttringer (the principal) never fails to fix it! In junior high my son had always struggled with school and had been bullied throughout, all of that stopped once we started ND and I'm happy to say he made Principals honor role! As for confirmation retreats, it isn't Notre Dames fault, they do not intentionally schedule games and activities on those dates, St. Catherine's ministry center "Lance Wiseman" plans the retreats and is not a Notre Dame employee! No where in the rule book does it say attending football games and dances is a requirement! Regarding catholic morals we as parents are our children's first teachers. And if you are unhappy I am sorry, Notre Dame isn't mandatory, there are other private schools ie. Woodcrest Christian, Riverside Christian, Aquinas. Notre Dame is the best investment I have made for all my children, and I would recommend it for anyone! read more
