It sucks. Even for a school. Way overcrowded and the campus is way too big for anyone to be able to navigate it.

Being a parent of two Poly Students, one former the other current, I would have to say that it's…read moreonly getting better. Poly is if not the best, it's in the top 2 of RUHSD. It's rich in culture and is one of the most diverse schools in the area. For the most part the kids that attend have decent attitudes and team spirit. Both my kids have received a strong education and the older is doing fine going into her 3rd year at a major university. Let's face it folks, if our children want to succeed they can by aligning themselves with good kids and putting forth effort in class. Poly certainly provides kids with the guidance and instruction they need to be successful if the kids and families do their part. Both our kids look at their time at Poly and smile believing high school was a great experience. Athletically Poly has some of the best teams in Southern California. Every year they have teams in CIF and beyond. Being the father of a Poly wrestler, I just wish they invested more in the program because it embodies character, strength and mental toughness. Poly wrestlers are some of the best athletes at the school but unfortunately it's not a huge money maker so they are frequently overlooked for funding, accolades or greater support. In the last couple years Poly wrestlers have become formidable competitors in league, CIF and this year State. This is why they should take a closer look at investing in the team and supporting it like the others. Lastly, since Poly has brought on Mr Roe the school has moved forward by leaps and bounds. Mr Roe has brought a new and much needed spirit and positive attitude to the school and faculty. All the kids love him and most parents find themselves immediately supporting him after a few minutes of getting to know him. I just hope Poly keeps him for a few more years before education promotes him to assistant superintendent or greater.

Title: I am not a Mark Twain fan, well the author I mean. The school? Well, I am totally a fan!…read more At first I must address the title. I am really not a Mark Twain fan. It was really awkward in middle school where the teacher made us read pages out loud of the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Seeing kids squirm as they are forced to read racial epitaphs. (I mean seriously, you couldn't just name the guy Jim!) If anything it should be something discussed in college. I heard they tried to clean up the book a bit. Even Mark Twain said that he wrote the book for adults. Whatever the reason, hopefully they don't have the kids read the book here. It would make since being the name sake and all. However, hopefully they send a letter saying they are reading a Mark Twain book. I will gladly excuse my children from having to read his works. Anyway... The school? Well, it is a great school. We were living in Loma Linda and was trying to buy a home there, but was coming up empty. We wanted to stay there because of the good schools. Unfortunately, we couldn't find a house in the school district. My wife set her sights to Riverside and I must admit I wasn't too happy about it. I didn't think we would be able to find a house near a school that had high rankings and standards. We were lucky to find new homes being built near this school. Mark Twain Elementary School credentials: Riverside Unified School District - www.rusd.k12.ca.us API Score - State Rank 8 out of 10 Achieved API growth target: Yes Teachers with Full Credentials: 100% Teachers with Emergency Credentials: 2% School Schedule: Standard Grades: K-6 K-3 Class Size: 25 Grades 4-6 Class Size: 28 The search for a great school was even more important due to my daughter who is ADHD. She need a little bit more assistance due to her easily being distracted. This can cause her to fall behind in her school work. She did start to struggle, but we were able to place her in the IEP. (Individualized Education Program) And once they realized that she may need more help she was moved to another school temporarily (Taft Elementary School) to help her even more. Her test scores improved and she was able to return to Mark Twain after one year. She is now attending 6th grade. I have a younger son who also attends the school (3rd grade) and he is having no problems. I don't understand the previous reviewers gripe about homework. It seems to be sufficient to me, especially for elementary school. At this stage your child will probably ask for assistance, and with 2 parents with careers it is a difficult task to ask them after a long day, to also have to deal with a large amount of homework. Not everyone can be a stay at home mom or dad. I will also add that the principal (Debra Ausman-Haskins) has always been nice to my kids. When I reenrolled my daughter here a few days ago, she stopped to say hi to my daughter and to welcome her back. She even walked my daughter to her new class, when we were waiting for someone else to do it. This is my daughters last year here, but we are lucky that her middle school (Frank Augustus Miller Middle School) has high state ranking as well. (API Score - State Rank 9 out of 10.) Mark Twain Elementary School may be named after a guy I don't care for, but as a school it is everything you could want in a school for your kids.

Principal is useless. Front office staff all hate their jobs and it shows. All of them are so extremely rude. School health aid is great.
