I had my two kids go through the whole system from Kinder to 12th grade, lifers. I can now stand back and give an assessment. This is a great Christ centered school. However, they have terrible and archaic teaching modalities. I started to notice as my kids entered the third grade. Middle school was insane with tests and homework. Three or four teachers gave tests on the same day! It took parents to complain to change this. When the admin became a principal and it was their kid there, it changed for sure. Highschool is ran so poorly. One of my kids had to take 2 outside classes because teachers taught so poorly and they were not cheap. Many kids are so smart, they resort to teaching themselves. And then there is the nepotism. Oh the nepotism. Of course the staff children get all the privileges and their friends. All the rules apply to others but not the staff kids or their friends. The counselor, what counselor??!! When one of my kids went there, the counselor came in once a week. She was rude and told my kid "if you can't keep up, then maybe this isn't the place for you." This conversation ended with me paying for my kid to take a history outside of Woodcrest, in which my kid earned an A. Both of my kids graduated from here, but not sure I would choose this route again. read more

If we could do it over again, we would have chosen a different school. Top expectations to administration are money and keeping your mouth shut. Definitely for the elite and not those that require assistance, both academically and emotionally. read more

We were very fortunate to find a home at Woodcrest Christian when our daughters' charter school moved. Moving from the public to private sector made us a little nervous at first but was the best decision we have ever made. While both the Day School and Middle/High Schools offer a wide variety of academic opportunity, that was not the element that impressed us the most, it was the staff. At all levels, from the Administration to the support staff, Woodcrest staff love their jobs and that love is reflected in the classrooms, campus(es), after school & before school care, and daily interaction with the students. I have personally seen this love displayed at the 6th Grade Promotion Ceremony when the Day School Principal did not require a list of the students' names while welcoming them on stage, she already knew each and every student. Jump to the next school year where each 7th grade teacher was given the opportunity to interact with each and every 7th grade student entering the school. Through carefully calculated class schedules, teaching staff were afforded the opportunity to teach every incoming 7th grader. I cannot imagine the time it takes to develop a system like this but it can only be fueled by love. While making the decision to attend a private Christian school can be intimidating, one thing remains true, at Woodcrest you are not just a student, you are part of the Woodcrest family. Our only regret has been not enrolling our daughters into the Woodcrest Christian School System sooner. read more

My daughter transferred to woodcrest from a local public school when the covid distance learning began about 2yrs ago. At first I was worried about her making new friends and being far behind academically since coming from a public school. Making the change to woodcrest was the best decision we could have made. Her quality of friends she has made are great. They helped her through the academics transition and helped whenever needed. She is now a straight A student and loves school. I have seen such a huge positive change in her as a person. We couldn't be happier with woodcrest Christian school. read more

This school is the equivalent of Mr. Krabbs. Some of my child's friends had to leave because this school is literally controlling our bank accounts at this point. At least the education is alright at best. read more

Please don't send your kids here. I am a graduate of this school and I have permanent emotional scarring. They indoctrinate students (beyond normal religious rhetoric) and foster an environment that promotes racism, sexism, homophobia, anti-mental health, and all other isms you could imagine. While I was there people heiled Hitler in class, told me that my family were all dr*g dealers and r*pists, I got spit in my face and called a "Democrat" and much much more. Not to mention that if you want to do well you will end up doing hours upon hours of homework. I was sleeping 4 hours a night and I didn't have time for a social life. The teachers and education aren't bad but it isn't worth it. Not to mention forcing children to listen to Seth Gruber and his blatant misinformation. He belittled SA survivors in front of me, an SA survivor and listening to him made me even more depressed and hopeless. Not to mention the teachers aren't even paid enough to live comfortably, despite many of them having masters degrees and going above and beyond for their students. Just please don't send your kids here. I don't usually leave reviews, but because it is a private school there isn't much room for legal action. And please don't take this as just a bitter ex-student. I am now a successful neuroscientist (as a college student) and I got my pick of colleges. I just don't want anyone to go through what I did. Not to mention I used to be a devout Christian but this school made me completely unable to be around religion at all, so if you are a parent who thinks this is what will keep your kids closer to Christ, I can tell you that is not necessarily true. My daughter attends Woodcrest Middle School and we are very happy with our experience. I can't say enough good things about Mrs. Orr - the Middle School Principal maintains high expectations of the children yet has a wonderful way of being very approachable and supportive of her study body. I went here 20+ years ago & I have to say I was 100 times more prepared when I transferred to a public high school. From going through this school system they were teaching things in the 10th grade that I learned in the 4th grade. I sent my child here as well & I have seen the differences between WCS & public school. It's honestly a joke. If you can send your kids here I would recommend it over ANY California public school system. Highly recommended educational school! read more

This school system has been wonderful and the academics are light years ahead of public schools. I read some of the bad ratings from parents who's children did not have a good experience at Woodcrest Christian. If you do not challenge your kids they will never learn to face the challenges of the world when they are out on their own. By expecting less from your children it teaches them to only do things half way. Yes, Woodcrest challenges their students and there is homework every night and if that is too much for you or your children, then be prepared to watch your children fail. You can't hold their hands forever. As for kids being mean at a Christian school. Kids are mean at all schools and there is peer pressure everywhere. Let your kids learn to fend for themselves or they will be dependent upon others for validation for the rest of their lives. As for the parent that said their childs grades went up to a 3.5 GPA when they enrolled them in public school. Of course the GPA went up the academics are nowhere near the standards of Woodcrest. This school has had many GREAT changes over the past couple years. Mrs. Orr, the middle school principal is loved by parents and students. She has really help turn this program around. I LOVE that the kids have to print out their notes everyday Friday so parents and student know what is excepted from them for the next week, in each class. This makes it so much easier to plan our busy weeks. Their cross country program and coaches are dedicated to making the experience fun yet they have high expectation from their runners. Ever school has issues here or there, but if Mrs. Orr is made known of something she handles it in a fair and loving way. read more

My daughter went to WCSS middle school and high school about four years ago. Teachers and administrative staff did not treat my daughter the right way. They took away her cell phone when she was trying to contact me. They punished her for no good reason. Most teachers at that school do not have teaching credentials. They gave my daughter poor grades because they (teachers) have very high expectations - like doing homework EVERY night. My daughter is a teenager and wants to have some free time to do her own things (that's normal). I pulled her out of that school and enrolled in a public school. Her grades were much better, above 3.5 GPA. Teachers in public school know how to treat her the right way. Seven colleges/university accepted her. Her friends who are still going to WCS, many of them did not get college/university acceptance. read more

I am a student who went here. Staff children receive many preferential treatments such as not being punished when not following dresscode or getting to choose their lockers weeks before anyone else. While in their middle school, I was going through a very difficult time at home. I was not supported by any of my teachers, in fact I was harassed because they could not see any of my behavioral issues as cries for help. So instead of being "christlike" and sheltering me, they harassed me and made me feel unwelcomed and turned a blind eye to anyone who bullied me. I was given discipline notices for arbitrary dresscode violations (for example you cannot wear tank tops or anything that shows your shoulder. I was wearing a white long sleeve blouse that had a v neck so I wore a black thick strap tank underneath. But because you could slightly see that the black tank top didnt cover my shoulders underneath the white, I was sent to the office). A female teacher came up to me and said "Don't you want to be a modest girl?" and then wrote me up. I was about 13 years old, for heaven's sake. Teachers are also not accredited..and while some of them are good others are awful and Im not sure why they are there. Everyone is in a competition to just be a better "Christian" than you. In my last year there, 9th grade, it was the worst. I was kicked out of the art teacher's room during lunch period because of my "reputation". I was cutting my wrists and no one cared, meanwhile a fellow student was also doing the same and received caring counseling from school staff because she was a "better Christian". When I was kicked out due to failing grades, the principle told my mother in their meeting that "this is when we weed the garden, and your daughter is a weed here". Please send your children to Hawarden Hills Academy if you must send them to a private school. Only those deemed outstanding little christian children who come from perfect little christian families will be treated fairly at Woodcrest Christian. Instead of trying to bring me closer to the Lord, they pushed me away and now I rebuke all religious teaching as an adult. I went through their entire system from Riverside Christian Day School to WoodCrest High, and they were not there for me when I needed non familial adults the most. I was shunned and called "the Devil" by other students and teachers did not care. read more

Woodcrest Christian School truly made a difference in the quality of academics that my two daughters received in their junior high and high school years. Being influenced in a Christ-centered, lovingly-disciplined environment encouraged them to grow in their faith while getting an above-average education. The sacrifice we made in paying for private schooling during those years was the best investment we could have given to our girls. They both graduated with high honors and went on to get their master's degrees in college. I sincerely believe WCS was the major catalyst to their achieving success in adulthood.
