When I finally got someone, they said I had to wait for 4 to 6 weeks. Then I called Marzel's and they suggested that I have my doctor provide a prescription for a post-surgical garment and camisoles. I had my fitting today and found that Jennifer, the fitter in Pleasanton was very knowledgeable, compasionate and understanding. I was still oozing a little bit, but she helped me hold the surgical pad in place and I was able to try on both the post-surgical garment and a soft bra. She persisted in pulling stuffing out of the temporary prosthesis until it matched my remaining breast. I had been wearing a breast binder and my surgeon told me that I no longer needed it, but I didn't know what to wear instead. I left wearing the camisole with the temporary prosthesis in it feeling much more normal. Visiting Marzel's was good therapy for me. You need an appointment. When I called, they warned me that their suite was difficult to find. The large sign on 5980 Stoneridge Dr is "Coldwell Banker". You go into the building and walk down the hall until to you get to suite 119, which does not have windows.

When you walk into the store, you feel embraced in sisterhood, camaraderie, and protection, like you've been let in on a little secret. Margarita was amazing at helping me find the bras I like, and consequently I bought a bunch from her during the Black Friday deal sale. I was in between sizes so I decided to buy different sizes, thinking that I would give myself a variety. So why the 4 stars instead of 5? Well, after trying on the different sizes for a couple of days, I decided to exchange one of the bras for a different size. A couple of days later, I decided to exchange another couple of bras for that same size, because I liked the new size. When I went in for my second exchange, the sales lady, an older white woman, asked the sales lady who was helping me how many times I have exchanged the bras. I was standing right there, she could have just asked me. The bras were brand new and with tags attached, even though they were on the same receipt as the others. The manner in which she asked them was rude and condescending and not the way that you should make a customer feel. You should never question how many times someone exchanges a bra - as long as the receipt is still valid they should be able to exchange as many times as they need to get the size right.

He called me very quickly and the conversation was so different from the other places I spoke with! Instead of just laying out "here's how it works, here's what you get for this price," etc., he asked a lot about what I was looking for, what I hoped to get out of it, my motivations or inspirations, etc. That personal touch carried throughout the experience. He consistently made an effort to understand what I was looking for--from the planning process to the photo shoot to going through the photos afterward--to make sure that I got exactly what I was hoping for. The photos themselves are absolutely awesome. It's incredible the different looks and feels he creates in a relatively small studio. More importantly, he just has an incredible eye for what is going to look good and how to create looks, moods, etc. I felt super comfortable the whole time, and I think that shows in the final product. Everyone who has seen my pictures has been blown away. He's way more than just a photographer; he's a true artist. Never in a million years had I ever imagined having a giant naked photo of myself on my wall, and yet here we are...and everyone who's seen it has been amazed. Can't recommend him highly enough!

My photoshoot with Cheshire at Dragonfly was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. As a…read moretrans woman who hates seeing photos of herself and can only tolerate looking in the mirror on a good day, I came into it with some trepidation and low expectations. Yet I can only describe the experience of being photographed by Cheshire as transcendent. It started at 10am with an hour of makeup and hair by an incredibly talented makeup artist who was also kind and put me at ease. This was the first time I've had my hair or makeup done professionally and I have to say I hope every experience is like that! Wow. When I looked in the mirror I caught a glimpse of myself I'd never seen before. It took my breath away. The photoshoot itself started at 11am and we didn't stop shooting until 5pm. We paused occasionally to eat some of the delicious, custom-prepared snacks Cheshire had brought tailored specifically to my partner and me. Otherwise it was non-stop photography using every corner of his incredible studio which deserves its own mention. For its size, it has such incredible versatility. We spent 6 hours shooting and had so many ideas remaining it felt like we could have exhausted another day entirely in that space, and yet each set of photos turned out as if they were shot in a completely separate location. Cheshire is an absolute master of lighting and posing. Cheshire effortlessly communicated what he wanted me to do with my body in a way that was warm, simple, and affirming. I never once felt uncomfortable. I felt like a professional who had so much beauty inside me that he was helping me to express and capture on camera. I had no idea modeling was such hard work, thought! My body was sore and tired the next day (although, after seeing the photos, it was entirely worth it). Overall, the best part of the experience was that I felt like I was collaborating with Cheshire to create art rather than a client paying to be photographed by him. It made the photoshoot (the process, the act of creation) even more special and memorable than the photos themselves, something I absolutely did not expect going into it. And then there are the photos themselves, which I can still hardly believe are real. As a trans woman, it is extremely rare to see on the outside the person I feel that I am on the inside. The set of photos Cheshire gave me a week after the shoot achieved that and more. They remain my favorite photos ever taken of me. They capture sides of me that I've simply never seen on film before or since--that I didn't think I would ever see. Thank you, Cheshire. What a gift.

Once my session was over, she explained to me the process for getting my album. She gave me options for the cover and let me choose the photos I wanted in the album.
