Since the new owners, Not Just Grass, bought the business from Tim Norris and his family and still use the Spring Bluff name, the quality of certain services has gone down. My recent experience is an example of this, I have been a long time customer since Mr. Norris owned the business; I was planning on continuing to use the services of the new owners/Not Just Grass as usual for all my landscape needs. Last April 2024, after working out details in March, I had old shrubs removed from the front of our house and new and different types planted. However, the work supervisor (Tyler) did not come with the work crew to lay out the planting plan, he had given them a work diagram, so unfortunately some of the shrubs were planted too deep, spacing was wrong on one side, and no soil amendments added, etc. I had asked for dirt and mulch to be added, but no mulch was added around the new plantings (I had to do a couple of bags myself around each plant later to help keep the soil moist after watering). They also left deep ruts in the yard/grass with equipment while removing the old, large yews. I contacted Tyler about the ruts and he did have them come back to fix that, however a year later now and the area is still sunken and no grass in spots (I will have to do a proper repair myself again). Tyler did not come back to supervise that original rut repair work. Flash forward to Spring 2025 in March, I contacted Tyler again because 1 of the shrubs had died last Fall (it was planted too deep) and another also looked dead at the time (before leaves started coming out), I let him know this and asked about replacement plants since they were under the 2 year plant warranty that Mr. Norris always provided and currently, Not Just Grass still honors. I never got a response, it was basically crickets. I sent text, e-mail, I called and left a message. I called the office and spoke to Kris who relayed my concern/messages on, but still no communication/follow-up from Not Just Grass/Tyler. Finally, I had run out of patience and had enough of the poor quality of service and called the owner, Greg V. (spoke to Kris again because he was out) and I also sent an email to the plant nursery. I explained to Kris and in my email(s) the lack of communication on their part and that I just wanted a replacement plant for the dead one (that I expected the same variety, a certain size to match the ones that did survive, and for it to be healthy), and that I would come to the nursery to pick it up myself. I also explained that I would be taking my business elsewhere from now on because of the poor service and quality of work. The owner did respond once in an email trying to tell me that Tyler had reached out on May 9, 2025 (nope, I never received a text, phone call or email from him and give me a break - May 9th 2025, when I had been trying to communicate with him since March 2025!!). The owner offered to have them come plant the replacement plant or I could pick it up as I had told them that was my plan. I replied that I hadn't heard from Tyler and that I would come pick it up and what I expected the quality to be, etc. When I went to pick up the plant, I was basically given the cold shoulder by Tyler (landscape supervisor) and Mackenzie (the plant nursery manager), I did see them, but they ignored Kris when she asked Mackenzie if she wanted to talk to me, Kris was told they were busy as they whizzed past us. Tyler indicated to us that the plant was down at the end of the nursery building. Kris, their Admin. who is basically in the office the majority of the time taking care of phone calls and orders, was actually the person who helped me find the plant (it did have my name on it) and load it into my car for me. The soil in the container was very dry, but that also made it easier to lift, and helped us out. I watered it well when I got home. So, there's my recent experience with this company (Not Just Grass) still using the Spring Bluff Nursery name, but not providing the quality of service, plant knowledge, and dependability that the former owners provided to their old and new customers. Also, their prices have gone up! It's just sad and no way to treat loyal customers! I have found another landscape company, thankfully, who have already planted the replacement shrub, added soil amendments, fixed the other planting that was struggling, and nicely mulched the area the way it should have been done last year. read more

We had a new paver path installed leading to the front and service doors and it turned out great. Also had a stone wall built around the garden in the front of the house. The design was changed considerably from the original and after 2 years we are still very happy with the results. Plan to work with Not Just Grass again when we redo the patio in the back of the house. read more

We had Not Just Grass Landscaping complete a patio, fire pit, and built-in BBQ for us earlier this summer. We first met with Adam, when he went over their process and shared some preliminary designs (based on some ideas that we had). We had some back-and-forth on the design and Adam was very accommodating -- even coming out a few times before we signed the contract to review options and discuss. Once we signed, they got us on their schedule and were out at the house within a few weeks to start the work (as promised). The project took a few days to complete with the owner, Greg, on-site for most of that time. The end result was fantastic and we're excited to have the space completed. We did have a few challenges getting the plumber (for the gas line) coordinated. Not Just Grass (NJG) provided the referral and the delay was with the plumber and not them. However, I preferred for the project to be "turn key" and not have to work so closely with the subcontractor to get the work completed. That said, NJG was responsive and worked hard to help close this gap. I would definitely use Not Just Grass again for future projects and certainly recommend them to others. read more

That included cleaning up the yard, moving cement blocks, mulching, powerwashing a cement wall and planting 149 high-pollininating plants. The plan was great, the implementaion turned into a trainwreck (WE ARE NOW IN JUNE)- I had to call them immediately to have someone come back because the debris (per the contract) was not all removed. Then I noticed that their tractor took out huge portions of my grass so they had to come out and put sod in. THEN, I discovered 25 dead plants out of 149. THEN, the grass/hay that Greg, one of the owners told me NOT to water turned out to be something resembling tumbleweed that I had to pay my lawn maintence people extra to take care of because it had 3 feet of weeds growing under it and it jammed their lawn mowers. i reached out to Adam yesterday who all of sudden decided to tell me "he works on the design side" because there are dead plants everywhere! He passed me off to Greg who suggested I wait ONE MORE YEAR? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? To see if the plants resurrect? What started out as a nice experience with Adam, turned out to be an extremely disappointing project once Greg, the owner, got involved. He sent day labor out to my house with no one truly giving a damn about my yard. I've disputed the charge and I hope this terrible experience ends here. Terrible experience. Hired them to do spring cleanup and repair and seal our paver patio on April 8, 2015. The job was finally completed the first week of August. Spring cleanup was done the first week. But it took four months to complete the patio. They made a mistake in washing and sealing and almost ruined all the pavers on our 30-1/2' x 25' patio. (They had to replace quite a few of them.) Kept on giving excuses and at times not even hearing from them for weeks. I agree with Matthew V.: Guess the job wasn't important enough even though the contract was for $3,585. Do not recommend using this company unless you don't mind not being able to use your patio for the greater part of the summer. read more

We had a terrible experience with a one-time spring "clean-up" and mulch laying service. I don't know if it was from disorganization, or if we weren't viewed as an important enough job, but we didn't receive the service we signed a contract for until 3 weeks after we were promised. The first delay was from weather which is completely understandable, but after that we kept getting emails saying that we were on the list "next" and that they would be coming out in the next day or two, but that didn't happen until weeks later. When the crew came out, I specifically talked to the foreman about removing dead branches and cleaning up the flower beds and pointed out some specific flowers and bushes that we wanted to stay, even if they weren't yet blooming. The crew ended up removing the flowers and plants I had pointed out. but left many other dead leaves and branches for us to clean up. We are seeing many places where mulch was just piled up over weeds and leaves. Part of the service was supposed to be mowing the lawn. They said that there mower was too big to fit through our fence, so they didn't mow the back yard. When we emailed to complain, they said they would come back out with a smaller mower, but never did. It would have been better to have been honest and just to have told us that they weren't going to come rather than straight out lie to us. The mulch is good quality and they did a good job cleaning up the edges of the beds and spreading the mulch. We could certainly have found a much lower price service, though, if we were just going to get mulch delivered and spread and have the edges of the beds redone. I would not recommend Not Just Grass. read more

Previous review noted that the work completed meets and even exceeds expectations. However, the companies ability to provide timely billing leaves a VERY SOUR taste in my mouth. I emphasized to the owner my need to receive timely and accurate invoices. I received the July 15 invoice on August 9 AFTER I posted on their web site the fact that I had never received the bill. I pay via credit card and I desire to have monthly billings. I have now severed my relationship with this company due to their INABILITY to provide TIMELY CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more

The owner is very disorganized and is not reliable. I asked several times for invoices and never received them for the work they provided. He lost my phone number, showed up several hours late to my house, and is terrible at communication. He frequently ignored my emails/messages I left him. It doesn't matter the quality of work they do if you are dealing with someone like that. I moved on to a different lawn company, as I have no patience for that kind of work ethic. read more

They were quick and I respond and get my drain pipes unclogged and redone. They did a great job with Fall Cleanup. They will be back soon for mulch and spring cleanup. They were great last season with weekly mowing. read more

My husband and I own a bar grill and NOT JUST GRASS put in an outdoor beer garden. The promise to build the patio was to be done in less then 7 days and to do it while my restaurant was open. Greg the owner came to the job every day and made sure everything was done perfectly. It was a raised brick paver patio and was done great. Any work I need outdoor wise in my future I will have this company do it! read more

We have used Greg and his staff for two large brick paving projects. We highly recommend them for their knowledge and creativity. In 2011 Greg and his brother, Adam, designed a multi-level brick patio with lighting in the bricks and an area for our gas grill. It took them 10 days in blazing July heat to complete the project on time. All of our guests are in awe of the beautiful design and construction. The patio has added much value to our home. I was very concerned about the construction damaging an existing tree and rose bushes. They were very careful and the tree and roses came out unscathed and healthier than before. Last summer they removed our concrete front walk and installed a paver walk. Not just the standard curved walk, but a stylish, angular walk. The plantings they designed will be added this spring. Not Just Grass is an up and coming landscaping company worth giving a try in the western suburbs. read more
