If you are a cat lover (or just have a soul), Kitty Cat Cafe in Peabody is a total must-visit. It's…read morea registered 501(c)3 nonprofit that shelters about 10 cats at a time, and you can instantly feel the passion Cora, Uri, and the volunteers have for rescue work. They've created a space that is the true definition of "mi casa es tu casa"--the cats basically own the place, roaming around freely while they rehabilitate and wait for their forever homes. It's so heartwarming to see them in such a chill, loving environment. What I appreciated most, though, was the educational side of the experience. They really take the time to highlight FIV kittens--which is basically the cat equivalent to HIV--and explain how they can live totally normal, happy lives with just a few standard precautions. Cora even touched on the biases that exist, even among vets, so I loved that I left not only feeling fuzzy from cat cuddles but also a lot more informed. Whether you're looking to adopt a new best friend or just want to spend some quality time with some kitties, I highly, highly recommend checking this place out and supporting their mission! As for food, you can bring in anything you'd like and if you're there for their tail thumping thursdays, you can also order delivery to it. They cannot serve food due to local laws and guidelines. They do have packaged snacks and drinks you can purchase to enjoy. In addition, they have merch you can also purchase. All purchases, including tickets, help fund the nonprofit.

We finally got the chance to check out Kuya Jay's Ube Cafe in Somerville, Massachusetts, and it…read moreabsolutely did not disappoint! I can honestly say it's one of the best little cafes we've ever visited. I had never tried ube before, and for anyone unfamiliar like I was, it's a purple yam. I ordered the Banana brulee Cold Foam, and it was incredibly refreshing and packed with the perfect blend of flavors, topped with fresh bananas. It was absolutely delicious! The bread completely surprised me. It was evenly baked, incredibly moist, and somehow crafted to pure perfection. The ice cream was a treat as well, but honestly, everything we tried was phenomenal. We can't wait until our next trip to Massachusetts just so we can enjoy a few more bites. I also loved the purple theme throughout the cafe, although maybe I'm a little biased since purple happens to be my birthstone! One of my favorite touches was the owners' book, where you can see pictures and learn more about their story. It really adds a personal touch to the experience. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and we would definitely recommend this place for a quick snack, dessert, or beverage. There is some temporary street parking available as well. If you're in the area, Kuya Jay's Ube Cafe is absolutely worth a visit!

The wait wasn't too bad and the menu had a good selection of ube flavored drinks and treats. The spot is located in this public space with nice lighting and some seating. The area also does cooking classes and has some areas to study. I actually got two drinks to try both and they were tasty - not amazing, but not bad given the price. Overall, I didn't mind the experience, but I have seen some troubling things online regarding permits that deter me from coming back unfortunately. Drinks tasted fine though!

Plus the interior of greenhaus is so peaceful. I recently tried their new Oreo matcha and it is INCREDIBLE. Would highly recommend if you like a sweet matcha. We tried two drinks, a lunch sandwich, + hash browns: - strawberry matcha latte - iced lychee jasmine tea - lil chic sandwich (maple syrup fried chicken, hash browns, & melted cheese on an English muffin) The English muffin sandwich was room temperature. Chicken patty was room temperature, guessing it is frozen store bought. So, it wasn't very satisfying to eat to be honest. But funny enough, the cajun tater tots were hot lol. (They're separate dishes that they put together in a to-go box) The drinks were decent. Not the best matcha I've had in the city. Jasmine tea taste was apparent so I liked it! It had canned lychee & lychee popping boba. Both drinks had a lot of ice. It normally takes me a while to finish a drink but I was finished with the lychee tea within a few sips. For the price, I don't personally think their drinks + food are worth it. Drinks had wayyy more ice than drink & sandwich was cold, with the exception of the hash browns being hot! Don't think I will be returning any time soon unfortunately. Really a 2.5/5 but the service was good, so I will give it a 3.

Food- 5 stars Service - 5 stars…read moreAmbiance- 3 stars I loved this cafe so much- I am glad my visit to Blackcraft Cult didn't work out because the line here was so much shorter and there was no wait to be seated. The only reason why I gave this spot on a 3 stars on Ambiance is because it was just super chilly outside. However, I did not have to wait for a seat and was given a menu immediately after being seated. I ordered the Nutty Professor latte and let me tell you, this was so divine! I tasted a hint of Nutella cream and how delicious this was that I was no longer disappointed about being seated outside. I also ordered the Shroom Sandy sandwich, I wish I ordered two (one for breakfast and one for lunch). It was that good! The sandwich was prepared with house marinated portobello, scrambled eggs and spinach and Swiss cheese. I felt energized for the two hours I walked around after only eating half. I would be delighted to visit Gulu Gulu cafe again the next time I visit Salem and highly recommend you arrive when they open if you want preferred seating. Happy traveling
