It's been a while since I've been in Kells and recently this amazing little gem has popped up. From…read morethe outside it looks small, and I was concerned it wouldn't have enough seating space, but do not be fooled! There is a beautiful outdoor seating area that's been really well landscaped and put together. Lots to look at while you wait for your coffee. There is also a lovely bright converted upstairs with lots of seating and some comfortable sofas to boot. I really love the decor here. It's country style, but fresh and clean. It's a pleasure to dine here. Their menu has a really good selection of eats from sandwiches to full cooked lasagnas, you won't be left wanting. I decided to go with the Tuna Melt. Other members of my party also opted for sandwiches, the club sandwich looking particularly lovely. While I enjoyed my tuna melt, I was expecting a little better. The melt looked great on the plate (see attached picture) but looked more like mini pizzas to me. I think next time I'll be sure to ask for it as a sandwich instead. The club sandwich looked fantastic and the portions are excellent value for money. It would be a really great rival spot to the nearby Bective for evening food. I can only imagine their upstairs looking super romantic with candles and fairy lights. Why should you dine here? Support local businesses! The food is excellent value, the surroundings are wonderful and the staff are absolutely lovely. I'm looking forward to giving this place another try very very soon.

Great little cafe for breakfast and coffee! Our meals were delicious and the coffee was so good…read more Service was also very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend!

A true hidden gem. The Courtyard is located just outside Kells!…read more There is a beautiful garden area with flowers and plants maintained, and two wild birds roaming around too. I think there is a peacock too but haven't seen him in a while! This is a great spot for interior shopping. They have plenty of beautiful ornamental bits and soft furnishings, beautiful mirrors, clocks, lamps and so on. Also wonderful ideas for gifts here too! So much to choose from. It is on the pricey side but their products are fabulous. They have a little cafe too where you can get coffee, tea and desserts. I believe they also host craft classes here, where you can learn how to decoupage and upcycle old bits!

What a great little spot! It's like Aladdin's Cave inside, full of little trinkets for the home,…read morefrom funny little signs, to pictures, mirrors, clocks, furniture, you name it they have it. Great for little gifts too. They also stock Chalk paint, and after getting a full run down on it while I was there, I was so impressed with their knowledge and their willingness to share their knowledge, their creativity is infectious. They run courses on the chalk painting which includes all the techniques and the decoupage, I've signed up for one. It's three hours long. Not only does The Courtyard host this wonderful shop and classroom, they have delicious treats and tea and coffee available too, just so you can chill out in the peace and quite. I'm very impressed with this little find, and can not wait to go back for their classes. The staff and the owners are gorgeous, so chatty and helpful, and they are also home to rescue dogs and a peacock! A must visit!

Forgefield Coffee Shop - Soup and goat cheese sandwich - both excellent.

Great veggie soups and nice outdoor space (4/5 Green Stars)…read more Forge Field has become a regular spot for lunch when in the area and it's always a pretty good experience. The soup is always vegetarian, by the way, and really constitutes and entire meal with you eat it with the bread. The soups usually pair a (very sustainable) root vegetable with a spice or herb, for example carrot and cumin or the excellent parsnip and thyme. The goat cheese sandwich is also highly recommended. Tarragon mushrooms on toast are a staple for mum - it's the one item from the breakfast menu that's available all day. I'm giving Forge Field 4 out of 5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, for these reasons: · Family-run business that makes its own bread, bakery items, etc. · Reasonably good selection of vegetarian options. Could have more on the vegan front but they will accommodate vegans with off-menu items, if desired. · Good supporter of local ingredients and businesses. · If you look to the left side of the parking lot, you'll see a new milk dispensing machine from Feckin Clogher Milk. You can purchase bottles and then come back and refill them over and over.

My family and I were recently vacationing in the area and visiting family who live in Termonfeckin…read more We had breakfast twice in the Forgefield Coffee Shop during our visit and loved our meals each time. We all got the full Irish Breakfasts, which were delicious. I'll be dreaming about their brown bread toasts for a long time! We also enjoyed purchasing baked goods (scones and mince pies) in the adjoining market on a couple of occasions, which were also wonderful. The shop was also well worth a visit.
