She makes sure every child is doing well and feels comfortable and happy at school. We are very grateful to have Ms. Filiz as Kylan's Pre-K teacher. As parents, it means so much to be able to trust someone with our child every day, and she truly gives us that comfort and confidence. Kylan loves going to school, and we can see how much love and effort she puts into teaching and taking care of the children. Taking care of so many little kids is not easy at all, but Ms. Filiz does an amazing job every single day. We really appreciate all of her hard work, dedication, and kindness. Thank you sooooo much, Ms. Filiz! -- Nickie (Kylan's mom)

The campus felt warm, organized, and well structured, and it was clear the students are happy and well cared for. One of the sweetest moments was seeing a few girls in my daughter's prospective classroom come up to say hello -- it truly reflected the nurturing environment. We're genuinely excited for her to start this upcoming fall and look forward to joining the Stratford community!

The school offered a great selection of classes, which made it easy to choose a variety of programs based on my child's interests and learning needs. One of the highlights was the Academic Bridge Camp taught by Ms. Mandal. It was a fantastic class that helped the children review and prepare for first grade in a fun and engaging way. The lessons allowed them to continue learning during the summer without feeling overwhelmed. Ms. Mandal is very organized and methodical. She sent a weekly newsletter explaining what would be covered and also provided daily email updates about the academic activities completed in class. This made it very easy for us to stay informed about what was happening in the classroom. She is kind, encouraging, and appreciative of the children while also maintaining good structure in the classroom. My child says she is "only a little strict" and likes her very much! We are very grateful to Ms. Mandal and the Stratford team for making the summer both educational and enjoyable.

Teaching science to pre-K students requires a special kind of magic, and she has it. My child comes home every week buzzing with excitement about gravity, life cycles, the solar system, transportation, water life cycle, bursting to explain how the world works. My child is completely hooked on science thanks to their amazing experiments and enthusiastic teaching style. She makes every lesson an adventure, and the growth we've seen in our child's critical thinking skills is incredible. I am constantly amazed by the sophisticated concepts my child brings home, all learned through play and hands-on activities. Ms. Swapna haven't just taught our child science; she has fostered a deep, lifelong curiosity about the universe. We are so grateful!"

Our family was part of Mattos since day one -- literally. When the school first opened it was a…read moresmall community of about 150 students, and we got to watch it grow into a full school through 6th grade. Every single grade was excellent. The facilities are state of the art, and you can tell everything was built with education and community building in mind. There's been real investment across the board: the buildings, the classroom furnishings, and just as importantly, the talent they've brought in across the teaching, maintenance, and administrative sides. Every student had access too all school classroom materials, to a classroom library and their own Chromebook. The academics speak for themselves. Mattos became a California Distinguished School in 2023, only a few years after opening its doors, and it earned a 10/10 GreatSchools rating within just a few years. The curriculum was solidly grade-appropriate and standards-aligned. Lessons stayed focused on core academics, and what our kids brought home each day was what we expected for their age -- no surprises. The workload was well balanced too -- homework at a reasonable level, with plenty of time left for kids to enjoy being kids. The parent community was a big part of what made this place work. The PTA was very active, organizing educational and fun events and bringing in donations to fund current and future activities. They won the National PTA School of Excellence award twice. Students, teachers, and parents really did form a united community, and the teachers and staff clearly cared a lot about their students' wellbeing. One more bonus: the city built a beautiful park right next door, and it's become the after-school and weekend gathering spot for families. An honest note. The school was fairly strict about following rules and limiting non-academic activities -- I suspect the PTA could have done even more with a longer leash -- though I understand the need to keep things orderly and safe. Our years at Mattos were a fantastic experience from start to finish, and I recommend the school to any family considering it.

There are serious problems…read morewith the cleanliness of the school, student behavior, classroom environments, and the way some students feel treated by teachers and staff. One of the biggest problems is how dirty and poorly maintained parts of the school can be. Trash can be found around campus, and some areas simply do not feel clean or welcoming. A school should be a place where students can focus on learning, but it is difficult to feel comfortable when the environment around you is constantly messy. Student behavior is another major issue. There are situations where students are being extremely disrespectful and inappropriate during school and even during class. I have seen students acting romantically toward each other in class instead of paying attention. There is also a general lack of respect between some students and the people around them. It can make classrooms feel chaotic and distracting for students who are actually trying to learn. I am also very disappointed with some of my experiences with teachers. In particular, I have had a very negative experience with my math teacher, Ms. Le. I feel that the way she communicates with students can come across as rude and disrespectful. Students should be able to ask questions and make mistakes without feeling embarrassed or talked down to. A teacher's job is not only to teach the subject but also to create an environment where students can actually learn. Another problem is that it sometimes feels like students' concerns are not taken seriously enough. Education should be about helping students succeed, but when students feel ignored, disrespected, or treated unfairly, it becomes much harder to stay motivated. Overall, I believe Milpitas High School needs to take a much harder look at the student experience. The school should be cleaner, classrooms should be more respectful and focused, inappropriate behavior should be handled properly, and students should feel that teachers and staff genuinely care about their education. This review is not about one bad day. It is about an overall experience that has left me extremely frustrated and disappointed. I hope the school administration takes complaints like these seriously instead of simply ignoring them. I would strongly encourage the administration to listen directly to students, investigate concerns about classroom treatment and campus conditions, and make meaningful improvements. Students deserve a clean, respectful, safe, and fair environment where they can actually focus on learning.

One day if I can find that photo, I'll attach it to this post. Every time I drive along 680 and see that Day Star sign, I'm so glad the school is still there. From the recent reviews, it seems the school is still thriving. Just wanted parents to know that this school has a solid foundation as an incredible school from its beginnings. The teachers are patient, caring, and genuinely invested in the children's growth. Whenever we had concerns, they were always willing to listen, work with us, and support our child in becoming more confident and comfortable in social settings. Another thing we really appreciate is the schedule. The school has relatively few closure days compared to many other programs, which is very helpful for working parents. If you need extended care until 6:00 PM, there are also many enrichment activities available, giving children plenty of opportunities to explore new interests. We're grateful for the care and support our child has received here and would highly recommend Day Star Montessori to other families.
