Just started going to the YMCA. This one is in Cupertino, and is imo the best, compared with the SJ, Mountain View, and even Palo Alto west locations. The gym has lots of great equipment, both cardio and anaerobic. There are two power lifting stations for those who got work to do on the olympic bar. However, by far the best PERK at the Northwest YMCA is the pool. Super clean, space for lap swimmers (please mind the etiquette of either splitting the lane, or swimming in counter clockwise fashion) and a separate section for kids/kids classes. The memberships are quite affordable, and you can go to any of the YMCA-SV locations. Highly recommended to anyone who is getting started or returning to the fitness journey.

One of the best YMCA locations in the Bay Area, it's new and clean. I particularly appreciate the locker rooms and the pool. While I haven't explored the machines, weights, and workout areas yet, they seem to offer a good variety of equipment. My only complaint would be the low and weak water pressure in the showers. I understand this is likely due to water conservation efforts, but it results in longer showers, negating the intended savings.

We tried the swimming class here and it was too crowded. Class sizes are big and not much one on one attention. Cleanliness of the facility is an issue too. We ended up going to another swim school. The gym is nice though and has great equipment.

A warm space with a friendly vibe. If you want a communal environment with a variety of offerings to explore in the health, wellness and fitness area this place definitely meets and exceeds those expectations. The staff are friendly and very helpful. They really take the time to answer questions. They are also constantly offering new types of classes including aqua yoga, RPM, GRIT (interval training) and BodyFlow. This specific YMCA has high quality yoga, taiji (tai chi), and qigong instructors. They are all extremely knowledgable and teach to the students; not just instruct a choreography. A steal in comparison to other gyms with what you pay for -- swimming pool, gym with functional strength equipment.

Hello! I've had some bad experiences with open showers, nothing personal, but some people are really disgusting. My question is this, are there open showers or semi-private showers? At least sections that cover person to person? Thanks

Take a tour and you'll see there are private shower stalls (handicap accessible) as well as a row of open showers. This is in both male and female locker rooms.

There is never judgment from the staff or the people who work out. I love them all. I am proud to call this gym my gym and I'm so happy to be part of this community. Are the equipments best in class? No. But I will come here because of the people and honestly - to be fit all you need are free weights, cardio equipment, and a little help from your friends. The trainers are always so helpful and the manager, Nico is so fun and friendly. For training I recommend Edwin. He has the most transformative training I've ever seen. I have seen his clients transform to their goal body. He takes his job seriously, corrects you while training and understands that proper form is key. He's given me tips and has also helped me transition my training to something suited and better for me and I've seen changes in the way my body respond! So- kudos to Edwin! The front desk staff from Chloe, Mayra, Lance, Andy, and Rishi are so approachable and always there with a smiling face. Jose Luis - the trainer's manager is also super helpful! Sometimes- it isn't about the equipment - it is about the people you surround yourself with that genuinely roots for you that makes a place a second home. Yes, this is my second home. I am here daily and lose days twice a day.

Pluses: very low monthly price for basic membership. But it kinda stops there…read more Minuses: I am an older guy, so I really don't enjoy loud rap at 7AM with the f-word and other bad language and sexual or violent stuff in it. Just sounds like profanity and people banging on garbage cans. Every early morning that I go, the music is too loud, even overwhelming the noise cancellation feature in my Air Pods. I look around, and EVERYONE is wearing ear pods or headphones. And yet the front desk tells me that they are getting requests to turn the volume up. Which I truly doubt. Strangely, this is not an issue at the San Jose location. Just Sunnyvale. In the mornings, there can be HITT classes and the instructors play the music painfully loud on their own portable sound system. Normally, there is a separate, walled room for this (San Jose Crunch), but not in Sunnyvale. So we all suffer from the ear-banging. There is an overabundance of treadmills which I have never seen full, but only one cable machine for shoulder workout, which is either broken or full-time occupied. Only two free-weight bench press benches, typically full. Only two portable benches in the weight area, typically full. For about two years, I have asked to have the men's shower controls repaired; you set the temperature handle, and it slowly drifts to scalding. A plumber could fix this in about 10 minutes. At least two conversations with the manager about this, and no repairs. Also, one or both shower soap dispensers is typically empty or broken. The worst is when I get attitude from the front desk staff. I ask for something (like non-rap music) and I get lots of reasons why I can't have it. And that kind of smile that really says "screw you, you can't make me do it." I don't know if the budgets are zero here, or if the management just doesn't care, but something really is not right. Almost every other club I have been to is more positive, helpful, clean, functional, and courteous. And at other clubs, I typically have no problem getting in contact with the manager. Here, it has been a challenge.

One of the instructors there recommended Field Fitness, and I've loved what I have found. I've mostly been taking classes with Josh and he's so motivating and supportive. I've got an arm injury and he's been great about providing alternatives for some exercises while keeping the flow of the class going for all. So impressive. There is no 'hard sell' at this place - which I really appreciate, and their endurance as a studio is there because they offer great programming and great product via the classes that they have. If your schedule means that you can only do infrequent or irregular classes, through to dedicated multi-times-a-week practice for strength, core, upper body and lower body work, you can do via the classes at this gym - so check it out!
