I first started seeing Dr. Julie Motes back in 1997, when I was in third grade. She soon became my family's primary eye doctor. I saw her for every eye appointment I had until I moved away for school. She was awesome! She was friendly, very personable and the customer service was outstanding.
I recently moved back to the city and needed to go to get my annual eye exam. My first thoughts were to go directly to Dr. Motes. I was happy to see her practice had expanded. Her new facility is amazing. I was glad to see she would be able to put a smile on many other families' faces. However, once reaching out to schedule an appointment. I was sadly disappointed. The majority of the new staff members are pretentiously rude. When calling I was spoken to as if I had upset them --and this was before they even let me know I had called the correct establishment.
After going in to get my eye exam completed, I was greeted by an old classmate (she's literally one of the few kind employees at the office). I chalked up my bad experience with the person on the phone to them just having a bad day.
I ended up needing to come back after my initial appointment date to pick out some frames so that I could get new glasses. Honestly, the frames I originally saw were not what I was looking for and I figured it might be better to look at their selection once my eyes were not dialated. When I came back, I still wasn't impressed with their frame selection (which has always been the case in my prior visits to Dr. Motes' office). In the past, I would have settled for frames but being that I worked in the eye industry for a short stint -- I knew that I might be able to find the frames I was looking for online.
I had them hold a few frames for me and assured them that I would come back the following day to make my final selection. When I got home, I decided on ordering the frames online and the following Monday I called her offices to let them know that I had done so and no longer needed them to hold the frames they were holding. I then received a voice message from my former classmate that Thursday asking me to let them know if I would still like for them to hold the frames. I called back, re-explained that I no longer needed them to hold those frames as I purchased the frame I wanted them to fill. No biggie.
When I dropped off the frames I purchased and wanted to use the following day, the young lady at the front desk was the final straw that inspired me to write this review. I came in, let her know my name, let her know that they had called regarding the frames on hold and I told them I would be bringing in the frames I wanted, told her that I wanted to price a few lens options, and notified her of the insurance information. She then asked me twice if I needed the frames they had on hold, she questioned me on my insurance information BEFORE attempting to look it up, and it took basically tooth and nail for her to answer my questions straight forward in regards to the lens options.
I should've taken my prescription somewhere else but I was annoyed and wanted the process to be over. I am, however, never returning to Dr. Motes' office. My family will also never be visiting them again. Horrible, horrible experience. read more
