Dr. Robert Cooper, OD has an interesting ability…read more He can make you feel like you're the most talented person to walk the face of the Earth even while you're doing the most trivial things. The manner in which he speaks to you while conducting his exams, he would have you believe that you are a work of art and he's there to be inspired by the beauty in your near-sighted eyes, as well as the brilliance of your inherent actions. He asked me to look to the right, and blink. I did. "That's just amazing!" He asked me to look to the left and down. I did. "Fantastic! You're doing wonderful." He's very thorough when it comes to the eye exams, I've stopped in 2-3 times just to ask questions and each time, he'd pull me into an exam room to check my eyes again. And he's kind of sing-songy in the way he talks during the exam. He's a fascinating man. At the end of it all, he'll thank you like you did him a favor by letting him look into the windows of your soul. If he has any children, I bet they have an insane amount of positive self-regard flying out of their orifices at any given moment. I would disagree somewhat with the statement from Sean G. "They make you feel like family from the moment you walk in the for [sic]." They are lovely people who will remember your name and treat you amazingly, but only after they get to know you. They may even come off as somewhat standoffish initially (I know it isn't intentional) but that's easily remedied if you're not an easily offendable jerk. I just mention this because when you walk in, they may very well look up at you real quick and say, "have a seat" without a smile. From what I can tell, it's because they're usually fairly busy and they're focused on whatever they happen to be doing at the time. But when that focus is turned on you, the focus is on you and only you. My favorite optician (and they're all nice in their own way so this isn't to suggest that the others aren't lovely) is Laquita. She walked me through every process. I was uncertain about whether I wanted to switch to contacts, but she helped me make an informed decision. When I had issues with a trial pair of contacts that was provided, she gave me a different brand to try without question. Granted, I've kind of interacted with them more than the average patient because I work close by and would run in almost every other day to hassle them about one thing or another. Expect to spend a fair amount of time when you stop in. Speed is not emphasized. One time, when I went to get my eyes dilated, I expected to be there for 20 minutes tops. It ended up taking an hour. Their frames selection is pretty good. Significantly better than other similar optometrists nearby, but obviously not as large of a selection that one would find at chains like LensCrafters. Regardless, I appreciate that they keep up with current fashion trends, and their prices are very reasonable (assuming your vision insurance isn't crap). I would highly recommend the singing optometrist. If you ever need an ego boost for breathing all while having your eyes dilated in a very professional and thorough manner, Dr. Cooper would be the one to see. Get it? See! Because he's an optometrist! Okay, I'll stop.

This double vision has cause issues with walking, balance and ultimately, has cause several falls. Many eye doctors have attempted to correct this through prisms in her glasses Rx. She has dementia that has impacted her ability to verbalize improvements during an eye exam, ultimately leading to a failure in correction. As one could imagine, this makes it very challenging for a doctor to figure out the needed correction for double vision and the repeated attempts by the lab to grind the right Rx. Enter Dr. Sherri Eakins, with Hummel Eye Associates. Dr. Eakins took the extra time to figure out how to effectively communicate with my mother to get clear signals of "good" or "worse" during the eye exam. It probably took twice as long to complete the exam, but the payoff was a beautiful thing to behold. At the moment that Dr. Eakins figured out the correct prism combination, my mother sang out the word "STOP!". Dr Eakins had done what no other Dr was able to accomplish. My mother started crying tears of joy. I can't imagine a better example of why anyone should consider Hummel Eye Associates as their choice for eye care. Although I live out of state, I'm scheduling my next Eye appointment with Dr. Eakins. Lastly, the support staff and technicians were polite, professional and pleasant.

Friendly, happy and caring, I always felt at home in the office. The support staff is so professional and Dr. Hummel has a wonderful bedside manner. He always made me feel comfortable and I trusted him all the way. I had some problems and he never missed a beat. He knew exactly what to do and how to continue until I had perfect vision. He is definitely a perfectionist and won't take less than perfection in his work. I am so glad I was referred to Hummel Eye Associates and Dr. Chris Hummel. I am as blind as a bat and the contact prescription is so high that it is not commonly carried by most eye clinics. Oftentimes my lenses need to be special ordered. So if I'm traveling out of town and happen to lose or tear a lens, then lose or tear my backup lens - I typically find myself in big trouble. Fortunately, I called Norman Eye Associates and they saved the day. I explained my situation and the very friendly and helpful receptionist told me that she could check and see if they carried my lenses. It turned out they did. She told me she'd have the lenses waiting for me up front. Coincidentally, their office was within walking distance from where I was staying. I guess I never noticed it because I never needed an eye doctor in Norman before. When I got to the office, they knew it was me right away. I was prepared to pay for the lenses but was told these were samples they had in stock so there would be no charge. I was pretty surprised about that and was very impressed with how helpful and friendly they were with me. It had been almost 3 years since I last had an eye exam so I decided I'd make an appointment and get one since their service had been nothing short of stellar. I'm accustomed to making my eye appointments a few weeks in advance, so I was happy to hear that they could see me, a new patient, as soon as the very next day. The fees for the exam were very reasonable. I believe it came out to cost around $80. I don't have insurance coverage for optical appointments, and I pay out of pocket. Some eye doctors hesitate to take uninsured patients, but this place had no problem with that and got me in much quicker than I expected. The next day I arrived for my appointment and was seen right on time. There was no waiting and the staff was very organized and on point with getting patients in and out. The doctor was warm and personable and he seemed like he genuinely cared about seeing me and addressing all my questions. He suggested two different lenses to try and provided me with samples of both. After a week or so of trying them both I placed an order. My lenses arrived within the week which is much sooner than I usually wait for my contacts to arrive. They called me the day they arrived and pick up went smoothly. I like my new lenses and I can't say enough great things about this eye clinic. It is a top notch place with lovely people and I highly recommend it to anyone in need of contacts or glasses.
