Fortunately, Edge of the Wedge was able to help! I found the location convenient, only four minutes off of I-90. I was confused by the 24 hour open times, but when I arrived, I saw that items are dropped off into a locker, for which you get to take the key, then use the key to pick up the items and leave the key. The blades are sharpened, and you can come and pick them up at your convenience. Right after I dropped off, the shop owner returned and offered to sharpen while I wait. The sharpening took less than 10 minutes: faster than I completed payment on the website. When he finished, he came out and demonstrated the sharpness which far exited my expectations for how sharp my shaved ice machine blade could ever get. The experience was so fast, efficient, and kind. I was so pleased with the experience that I will be back to bring my garden tools and kitchen knives. These knives carried me through…read moremy time as a professional chef and were returned in a condition that permanently altered them. I cannot replace the history attached to these blades. The refund does not change that loss. I brought several MAC knives in for sharpening and was quoted a two-week turnaround. They were ultimately held for over four weeks. During that time, I was told the delay was due to the owner's daughter being in town, which I understood and accommodated. Two days before pickup, I was told the knives had barely been started. The following morning, I received a call saying the work was complete. Later, I was told the sharpening had all been done the day before pickup, despite the knives being held for over a month. While the edges were sharp, the knives were returned with numerous dark, pepper-like surface marks across the blade faces, particularly near the heel and along the flats. These marks and pits were not present when I dropped them off. Washing with soap and water did not change them, and they appear permanent. I am a professional chef and take meticulous care of my knives, so changes in condition are immediately noticeable to me. Given the extended delay, the condition the knives were returned in, and how the concern was initially handled, I have lost confidence in the service. I had previously left a five-star review, which makes this outcome particularly disappointing. I would not feel comfortable bringing additional knives here or recommending this shop to others who rely on their knives professionally.
