Run as fast as you can from this gym if you value your money and your children. They advertise as "safe" but are the furthest thing from it. Over the course of my two daughters "learning" here for three brief months, one of my daughters developed a breathing disorder from anxiety (which I later learned was due to an abusive coach who happens to be related to the owners so they won't get rid of him), a friend of my daughters fell and got a concussion when this same coach was supposed to be spotting her, and both of my girls came home crying several times over the treatment from this coach, which included laughing at the girls when they would fall, and telling them that they sucked when they couldn't get a skill they were working on. Coach EJ is a teenager himself, in charge of young girls, when he has very little gymnastics experience and even less people skills. He is on a serious power trip and suffers from small man syndrome to the highest degree. This is young man that needs to learn about what being a coach is and the responsibility that comes with that position, but when management was addressed about him their response was that he was fine and nothing would be done. They even went as far as to blame the girls for any problems and refused to accept any responsibility for their coaches behavior. In the 3 months that my girls were at BGTC, 22 girls left the Xcel program. This doesn't sound like a problem with the girls to me. It sounds like a coaching problem. If having an abusive coach isn't enough of a deterrant for you, be careful with any money that you hand over to these people. DO NOT GIVE THEM CASH! They are super eager to just take your payments and pretend like it's a family atmosphere and you can trust them, but then they'll charge you again and pretend that they never received your original payment. When asked for an itemized statement showing each payment made and each charge detailed, they couldn't even provide it. Lucky for me, I have receipts. Do yourself a favor. Go somewhere legitimate. This place is a fraud and when they go under, we'll all be safer. If I could leave a zero star review, it would be more appropriate, but hopefully this warning will help someone stay away from NGTC. read more

We started at NW Gymnastics over 5 years ago in a pre-school class with Mrs. Tina. She conducted the class with great knowledge for preschool age students. She taught the importance of safety and worked with a high variety of skill level. 5 years later Mrs. Tina still continues to show love to my daughter as she goes to Team classes. Firstly, the management here is excellent; the owners are dedicated to their jobs and want nothing more than for their students and faculty to succeed. Let's get one thing straight: Northwest Gymnastics Training Center is voted Oregon's Xcel Club of the Year for 2019, and for a good reason. As I've stated previously, the faculty cares immensely about there jobs and the success of the students. Their ability to push students, producing precision, and improvement, while also making sure that the students are enjoying themselves is a unique and challenging skill for any gym posses. This gym is family-owned, the second you walk in, you feel like you're at your second home. The owners are reasonable and understanding; they know what it's like to be a real person with the desire for their children to succeed in life. They're there to help you achieve this goal and want to see your children reach their goals. All in all, the Northwest Gymnastics Training Center is a place where students can be themselves and get the gymnastics training they seek, no matter the level. Deciding to go here will not disappoint. You'll find caring faculty and your children will learn the value of hard work in a space that accepts the idea of being a kid. As a person who has seen this family business go from a small group of kids to now owning a newly-built gym, there is no other place I would send a kid for gymnastics training. Coming from a person who has gone to a few gyms in the greater Portland area, this gym surely has the most up-to-date equipment and truely cares about safety. Love this place! I have been going to NGTC for a long time and I can't say enough about the facility and staff. What sets NGTC apart from any other gym is they appeal to ALL levels of interest and skill. If you want your child to take a tumbling class it's a great place with a lot of enthusiasm and love, but if your child has a serious interest and wants to be competitive this is the only gym to go to. Could your child be an Olympic gymnast? Only if they get the right training at the right age and if you stay at a tumbling gym too long they will miss their opportunity at greatness. While my kids will never stand on a medal podium I know that I gave them the best and they were taught lessons about facing fear and doing your best that will last them a lifetime. I don't know what the other reviewer's problem was. The injuries and team defection she mentions simply didn't happen. I think she is one of those parents who blame the teacher if her kids get bad grades. EJ is a teen but he's been around gymnastics his entire life and because he's younger he can talk to my girls in a way that makes them understand what they can do to improve. See for yourself. I put my daughter in Sunday toddler classes. The first few times she liked it but the younger kid classes are taught by teenagers who have absolutely no desire to teach these kids anything. They just tell them what to do and don't make sure that each kid gets walked through the steps properly for that age. The girls face is just smug the whole class time making it seem like she has better things to do. (Same issue with any of the teen teachers we got not just one) When the little kids don't do what they are asked the teacher isn't even looking at them or paying attention to keep them on track. Also when we would get there each time and have no clue who was teaching the class I had to go up to multiple people and keep asking everyone if my child was supposed to be in their class bc they didn't tell us where we should go. I should have to hunt down my kids teacher. The staff should be welcoming and help us figure out who is doing the class that day. One Sunday we went and the owner was walking around barking at everyone what not to do. She even got onto the parents from above who were trying to get their child to pay attention bc the teacher clearly wasn't trying to correct them. She was in Lala land not even paying attention to the ones not doing the obstacle course she made for them. The women then continued to correct anyone and everyone in her sight for silly things. From the fact that the teachers weren't welcoming (besides on girl on the last class we attempted) and the owner is walking around intimidating everyone, my daughter is now scared to go into any of the classes. She I call to talk about canceling the class. We had already paid for May. I had to rush in today to go sign papers canceling her classes even though I never even had to go in person to start any of this. They told me if I didn't come today before the 30 days of May and give my 30 notice I would start to be charged into June. My kid hasn't been in class since April 15th. We wanted a refund for May bc she won't be going not even to one of those classes and she didn't go half of April and still had to pay. This company only cares about making money and have absolutely no compassion at all. My daughters dad who is highly disabled is using his very little bit of extra money to pay for these classes and they won't even give us our money back when she won't be attending not even one day for the upcoming month. We had no problem paying for the rest of April since she quit but there is no reason we should be charged all next month. We paid $50 for a "yearly membership" that we also don't get back which the membership doesn't benefit us at all. What a waste of money to even come here at all. No one knows if their child will 100% want to do gymnastics for a full year. You only get one trial class and other than that you have to pay all this money and get stuck into their trap. I totally get if you came at least one day in the month to finish paying for that month but you should have to pay for the next upcoming month if you aren't going to be there. read more

So..A charge in the amount of $180.00 came out of my account today from NGTC even though my daughter has not been there since November. When we stopped in November she had graduated from a Gazelle to a Giraffe. The Giraffe classes were on different nights so I told them I would need to look into my schedule first. Fast forward to now and the AWFUL woman, Tina (business owner), that answered the phone told me that I needed to come in and sign a 30 day drop out notice. Until then they will continue to charge my account $60 even though she is not in a class! Ok...I explained to her that our house burned down last week and I really needed the $180. I asked her if due to our unexpected situation she could refund the money since I clearly was under the impression that she had graduated the Gazelle class and was no longer even enrolled in a class. THIS IS THE BEST PART...Her response to that question was "Ma'am ..everybody has a situation." Really?? Everybody's house burns down?? I told her that Brooklyn doesn't even have a house right now. She even lost all of her expensive gymnastic leotards! The woman was SO COLD HEARTED it was absolutely unbelievable! Her tone of voice was as if I was annoying her. I hope they enjoy the $180 because I will NEVER be going back. The training was not very good anyways.. I've never written a negative review about anyone or a company before, but I wanted to create awareness to others so that they won't be taken advantage of. Our daughter has been going here for several years; since before they opened up the new location off of Division. We were happy with the staff up until the Covid-19 occurred. We placed our account on hold (freeze) which didn't cost that much (at $15/month) and we were satisfied with them understanding our situation. They (Tina) announced on their website that we can participate in gymnastics via Facebook. We tried that, but what we saw was Tina reading some books, Eric talked about how much they all missed us, the importance of studying and preparing for school and started stretching exercises. They mostly didn't do any training on gymnastics until the last 5 minutes. Up until around the beginning of June, 2020, they announced that they will be opening up. We were still being charged for the $15/mo, but all of a sudden they charged us $103. We found out that families who did participate in the previous events (before Covid-19) continued on paying them the amount they are paying every month even though their child isn't participating due to them being loyal. I called them on July 17th to inquire about this bill and they didn't get back to us until August 1st @15:32. They mentioned they notified us via e-mail that the cost changing would go back to normal starting July, but we never received any of their e-mails OR on our parent portal except upcoming events. Tina and Eric are very defensive when it ever comes to inquiring about bills. I then decided to cancel our membership and to my surprise they charged us an additional $101.50 to cancel so that they could have an additional child take our daughter's place. They charged us a total amount of $304.50 and it felt like they took advantage of us to help pay their rental space. I would not recommend this place anymore. Very disappointed about how money hungry they are when it comes down to customers who wants to save money or discussing financial needs especially during the crises we are having with the Covid-19 epidemic. read more

I rarely leave reviews on yelp, but I had to this time! I love this place and so does my son, I know he will benefit immensely from it! We started off by just letting him take a few classes last year, then we took a break for a little while. At home, he did not take a break! He still kept doing gymnastics at home and asking when he would go back! We are finally starting back up and I'm excited because this place is clean, professional and a great asset to the community! Well, here's probably one of the first real reviews for this place. We were their about for about a year that ended in 2015. The owners 18 year old kid was coaching my daughters team, and I would constantly hear complaints about how he would berate the girls, and make them cry, etc. We mainly chocked this up to pre-teen, over dramatic girls, and we backed the coach fully, on and on. It came to a point where a bunch of girls left, so we started to look a little closer at things, and, went to some practices, where it became evident he didn't have the maturity to coach, Besides this, he would berate the girls publicly when they screwed up at meets, which would make them cry!! After hearing this, and my daughter loathing the practices and going there, we decided to leave. It seemed amicable enough at first, where we were told that's fine, but you have to pay for the remaining months that we had, which was 2 months. This was fine, and I was willing to pay it, then all of a sudden these extra "meet" fees got added on, and now the departing bill was over $1000.00 bucks!! I told them I wasn't going to pay that, and that I would pay my last 2 months gladly, I had the $300.00 bucks, and I would drive down that night and pay it! They wouldn't take it, and I told them they weren't getting over $1200.00 dollars! To make a long story short, they sent me to collections, and now I have to contend with the credit hit, which is Okay compared to that nightmare scenario. We still see the owners son at meets, doing the same things to other girls,(basically bullying them) Also too, now that we've been around and seen some things, everything with them was kind of a money grab, extra fees every time you turned around, late fee's if you were a day late for the months tuition. In all honesty, we started out here completely open, and supportive of this Gym,and the coaches, but they lost that due to nepotism, and over aggressive fees and payments, and a poor culture. We've now been at Top Flyte in Troutdale for well over a year, and the difference in culture and coaching is night and day!! They are very positive and supportive of the girls, are WAY more flexible regarding payments, and a lot nicer to work with! I probably wouldn't have written this if I still didn't get pissy calls and letters from their collection nazis that they send after you, BUYER BEWARE!!!! read more

I'm gonna start off by saying I'm a young father. I'm 27, and my daughter is 6 going on 16. Me and my daughter are total BFF's! We go to the theater, go out to eat, play video games, go Pokemon hunting, camp, travel together, I mean, you get the picture. So I do not take lightly where I want to send my beautiful. So when she approached age 5, I thought to myself, "I gotta get her to do an activity/sport she can grow with." After talking with her and her mom we decided on gymnastics. I went online to search for some gyms in the vicinity. (With the intention of not deciding right away) I went and visited one, in Troutdale. The people were nice but the gym was pretty unorganized, messy, etc. The main turnoff was how much it felt like this particular gym was in the money business, not the "making future generations great," business. I understand businesses need revenues and profits, but it shouldn't supersede helping your kids grow into awesome people. I called NGTC, I spoke to Tina (whom we now love!) who was super upfront and clear about their rates and we scheduled a FREE trial class for Aleah.(my daughter) We got there and immediately it struck me as awesome how they genuinely seemed to care about their gymnasts. My daughter loved it as I knew she would, and we signed on then and there. I only wished we would've signed on even earlier when she was a 3 year old toddler! Needless to say it's been nothing but love, fun, and hard work ever since. We've been here over a year now, and plan on many more. They truly care about instilling good values, hard work, and a never say die attitude in your children! My particular favorite, they don't put up with brats here. If your kid has behavioral issues they will work with your child. However, if you're one of those parents that has one of those little monsters that goes on a rampage at school, and you're the parent that blames it on the principal and teachers first thing? Please don't come here. They will raise their voice at your child if they're, A) doing something stupid/unsafe or B) not listening. They demand respect, attention, care, and hard work out of their gymnasts, and they'll instill values and ethics in your child that will hopefully stick with them for life. This is coming from a guy that knew nothing about gymnastics. I couldn't be happier as a father knowing that my child is surrounded by a group of wonderful people (fellow gymnasts included) that is rapidly becoming a second family to us! Literally, Aleah's favorite times of the week are when she gets to come to NGTC. For starters, this is a Real Review. I will start by saying that we LOVE this gym and the coaches!!!! We have 2 girls, one is on team and one is in rec. We have been at this gym for several years and I am honestly shocked by some of these reviews. I will tell you that these coaches are trained very well and place safety and personal accountability as a priority. Both of our girls have gained confidence and have learned how to take accountability for their actions. I have sat through many practices watching these coaches mold our daughters into a better version of themselves, offering encouragement and yes holding them accountable. I can honestly say, our girls have been involved in many different sports, they love this gym and would never dream of leaving it. Gymnastics offers structure to your child's life, it teaches them to persevere, they gain strength not only physically, but mentally.....Yes it is hard, and yes they may become frustrated, however, this is where growth occurs, working past the challenges, not just the skill set, but learning better communication. It teaches them ethics and integrity, which hopefully follows them into adulthood. I have personally, seen some challenging kids, learn respect for their coach and for themselves. If your intention as a parent is to coddle your child, make excuses for their behavior and or blame the coaches, well then I fear your child will never make it in any sport, as they are not "Coachable". Yes, coaches will raise their voices and redirect and yes even have your child not participate if they cannot follow the rules, listen or follow the safety rules. In the end, I am grateful that our girls have outstanding coaches that hold them accountable, push them to be better, not only at gymnastics but as a person and that they build these children up, teaching them to be "Coachable". read more

My daughter has been here a little over a year and is currently on team. We started at Rigert Elite and really enjoyed it at first, but then noticed a lot of "dance mom" gossipy mentality. We took some time off and then decided to try gymnastics again, googled a nearby gym and despite the poor reviews decided to try NGTC. We absolutely LOVE it here. The costs are comparable to many of the other high quality gymnastics establishments. They are very transparent with the amounts you are being charged and even offered a payment plan for the competitive season - they understand the cost as well. My daughter has grown so much at NGTC, she has developed friendships, loves her coaching staff and strives to do well for them because she WANTS to. Disclaimer- if you want hand holding and participation awards - go elsewhere. This gym will build character and have your child EARNING the rewards and complements they receive. Additionally, if you have questions,the staff is very open to answering them, just ask. I have had the pleasure of knowing Tina and the coaching staff at NGTC for years. I also would like to give a testimony most do not know about Tina. Years ago when she bought the gym I was head coaching a Special Olympics Gymnastics team there and she enthusiastically continued to support the team as their home gym, helped coach, and added the use of her gym to include a very successful Invitational meet which validated the hard work the SO gymnasts and coaches had put into the season. When years later my own grandgirls decided gymnastics was for them there was only one gym I wished for them to train at, NGTC. As a former Elite gymnast I know a good gym when I see one and this is it! While all businesses have a few clients who are not a good fit, I have only seen this gym meet and exceed the needs of both recreational and competitive gymnasts. People need to remember, you hire a gym and coaches to teach your athlete mental and physical skills in a safe and proven progression manner. Gymnastics is a very intense sport and only the best should be coaching your athlete. I highly recommend NGTC if you want your athlete to excel and reach their highest potential! read more

My four-year-old has been a part of the recreational gym class for the past year. She has learned so much in that time. I never thought of putting her in pre-team or a team situation, but with all she has learned in just one hour a week at NGCT I am now wondering why I doubted her abilities. Going to gym class is the best day of her week. I am so grateful for what the team of coaches at NGCT, the warm and personal welcome from the owners and the team spirit of the gymnasts. I have two daughter's who attend NW Gymnastics Training Center. My daughter's ask me everyday if today is their gymnastics class day, and everyday I am able to say, why yes it is, the only thing I hear is a very exuberant "Yes, I get to go to class today!" NW Gymnastics Training Center does a fabulous job of making it fun as well as challenging for the children. I couldn't ask for a better place to have my girl's take an extra curricular activity. My husband and I couldn't be happier for the self esteem and sense of accomplishment that it is providing for our girl's. Everyone who is on staff at NW Gymnastics Training Center truly is the best! My granddaughter has been at NGTC for a while and loves her coaches. I do watch every practice I am able to be at and enjoy it. I watch how the coaches not only challenge the kids to do better but also give shout outs when they master a skill. They have brought my granddaughter through 2 injuries, which did NOT happen at the gym. and they brought her to competition level. Yes she has had bad performance days but she muscles through even with severe head aches. If a child doesn't have the interest or the ability, there are other sports, but gymnastics involves effort, attitude, and talent. As in anything else, you get what you pay for, so if all your child wants is a jungle gym they have playgrounds. As for fees and deposits, that's part of life, get used to it. No business opens with the idea of not being able to pay rent expenses, insurance, utilities, or covering employee paychecks etc NGTC does not list itself as a charity and they go over the expenses ahead of time and hand each family a price sheet. I have never heard any of the coaches use foul language of any sort with any of the kids, I have seen them get after them however for not encouraging teammates or being lazy. It is after all a team sport and they have to rely on each other for good scores. You don't get roses without thorns and kids need some thorns to teach them to survive, that life is not about them its about their being able to learn respect for others and that they are responsible for their choices and the consequences of those choices read more
