Bill payment department personnel are not friendly or helpful. They will not work with your insurance company. They expect payment in full immediately following (or before) your procedure. You will have to do all insurance paperwork yourself, they will not file for you. "Out of network" is their motto. We took a random recommendation from a social media conversation and went to Northwest Dental. Worst dental choice of our lives. They scammed us in several different ways, not honoring their commitments, falsifying records to make it appear we needed more work than we did, forcing us to sign agreements that we couldn't physically see by saying the desk would remove anything that was not accurate, and exploiting a vulnerable family member they promised not to treat without me reviewing the proposed treatment and estimates. They worked in a clearly routine manner as a team to promote the scams, using deception in the form of unwritten promises and offers, falsified notes about the patient condition, getting a vulnerable family member to sign and pay for excessive work when they'd promised they would get my okay first, and so on. The dentist was involved in the improper practices, not just the admin and assistant staff. This practice should have red flags flying on site to warn potential patients to stay away. read more

I have been a patient at Northwest Dental for over ten years and was happy with their service until the last couple of years. The quality and professionalism of their hygienists have decreased. I have not seen the dentist I was scheduled to see for the last three appointments. I was just checked by whatever dentist was available and got conflicting advice. In addition, their fees have steadily increased. There are plenty of good dental practices in Rochester and I will be going to a different one in the future. read more

I needed to get a tooth extracted from a difficult location, "15 to be exact. I was so pleased with the warm welcome I received, I was given the opportunity to have coffee, water, tea and cookies. I was also grateful for the generous gift bag that I received for a first time patient. I had a tough tooth to be extracted, Dr. Vander Broek did an excellent job removing it. If you want quality care and to not be scammed, do NOT go to northwest. Every 6 months I somehow had 3-5 new cavities. By the 3rd visit I decided to get to second opinion, because as someone who has never had cavities, I was SHOCKED. My new dentist did not agree at all with what they called "cavities" and actually showed me FIVE teeth that had small chips from Northwest's unnecessary fillings. After getting a second opinion, Northwest called me back and left a voicemail saying that "other dentist might not agree, but we like to be more thorough than other places." Northwest Dental Group in Rochester MN is extremely a $$$-centered care, but not patient-centered care. Just a minor procedure charged you the incredible amount you can never ever have experienced in other places. I've been a patient at Northwest Dental for nearly 10 years. Today I went in to have a filling repaired that was done by them a little over a year ago. After letting me know it would be free of charge, they did X-rays and an exam. Then after numbing me up with Novocain and putting dark sunglasses on me, they tried to get me to sign onto paying nearly five times what the filling was last year. I asked why I was being charged and they said they looked it up and they didn't work on that tooth. They also stated the reason for such a high cost was "it was a complex filling and the prices of everything have gone up". Then proceeded to tell me "Well if you can't afford it, you don't have to get it done today". The most frustrating and offensive experience I've ever had at the dentist. I will be finding myself a new one after today. read more

BEWARE. The clinic is only 'in-network' for Delta Dental, but they don't tell you that. They say they take your insurance, charge you three times as much as what the insurance covers and the rest is on you. They do offer you 5% off if you pay the day of your appointment, which is a joke of a 'discount'. They also do not tell you any of this when you make your appointment, they tell you after it is completed, when you are checking out. read more

I have been going to Northwest Dental Group for four years now and while I have always felt welcome and cared for as a patient, the care I received from Kaylee this week has been amazing. I needed a more in depth cleaning that is done in two sessions. Kaylee was very patient with me and made me feel cared for and comfortable. It was difficult to find a two hour long appointment time and Kaylee went above and beyond and scheduled me on her day off. Receptionists are not welcoming, I often feel judged when I walk into the office. The dental hygienists often scrape at my teeth and gums so hard I go home in pain and it continues for days after. I would not recommend this dental office to anyone. read more

Our family loves Dr. Post and Northwest Dental. Our kids have been going there since age 2 and my oldest is now 14, so we have been clients for over 10 years. First, they were FABULOUS with little kids. The lobby has toys to play with, the exam rooms have TV's to distract them, the kids enjoy the post-visit prizes and cookies, and the staff actually LIKE working with kids. (We tried another dentist where their staff just shrugged their shoulders helplessly when my toddler cried.) Dr. Post is always friendly, involved, concerned, helpful. To be really honest, I only created a Yelp profile so that I could leave this review. My first encounter with Northwest Dental Group was about 4 years ago. I went in for a cleaning after moving into town. At my cleaning, I was told that I had 9 (NINE!) cavities. I have always had good dental health (routinely had my teeth cleaned, brush 2 times per day, and flossing). To be told I had 9 cavities was a shocker. Nevertheless, I trusted that since they're dentists and this is their profession to trust that they were honest. I scheduled my appointment to take care of 5 of them (the right side of my mouth). I don't ever recommend ever doing this, regardless of the dentist. Needless to say, my mouth was superbly numb so when they asked me to bite down and check my bite, I had no idea what it felt like. Fast-forward 4 weeks later, I wasn't able to chew foods (hard or soft), so I went in for a bite adjustment and had sensitivity in my mouth. They found that one of my fillings and shrunk and would need to be replaced. They filed my teeth to fix my bite and scheduled an appointment in the coming days to correct my filling. Another 6ish weeks later, I am still unable to chew on that side. I went in for another bite adjustment and had my teeth filed some more. It seemed to be a temporary fix because I was back in the office not long after with more sensitivity in my mouth. After performing a "zinger" check, I was told that I would need to have a root canal performed on one of my molars. Five months after getting the initial fillings put in, I was getting my first root canal (at age 26) and subsequent crown. That was my last experience with Northwest Dental Group. I moved to a new dentist that was recommended to me by a friend. I hadn't had a cleaning in a while since I was so preoccupied with my right side of my mouth. I went in for my new patient appointment and asked them to look at the left side of my mouth where I still had 4 unfilled cavities. My new dentist, looked at my x-rays and was visibly upset when he told me that yes, they were cavities, but were equivalent to scratches on a car. In my opinion, I would like to assume that the 5 on my right side were similar in size; Dr. Post did more damage to my teeth by filling in these "scratches" than the work actually entailed. Here I am 4 years later, with a mouth that has now had 2 crowns (another one resulting in shoddy dentistry) and I still have difficulty chewing food on that side. I was always proud of my teeth. I was always proud of myself when I left the dentist with a sparkling report. I am learning to love the dentist once more, but Northwest Dental Group has severely impacted my life. I'd love to hook you up with a dentist that actually cares and isn't out for the money grab. read more

I tend to be a bit skeptical about dental practices from previous experiences including here in Rochester at a place that wasn't so..."GENTLe." I chose this practice after asking a few of my dentist friends how to go about finding an up-to-date, trustworthy practice. I reviewed the website and was even more impressed with the public outreach the office does including holding intermittent clinics for those who don't have the means to afford dental care. As well as Halloween buy-your-candy type campaign, which many of us quip that Halloween is a dentist's treat because it brings in business with promoting cavities, so to promote healthy teeth and actually pay to try to keep their patient's teeth healthy is another welcoming sign of a practice that's looking into the well-being of their patients, not their own pockets. That was a bit of a tangent from what most people look on help for... My experience overall was excellent. The office is nicely renovated (again, another sign that your dollars are being reinvested in you!) and the office staff is really bubbly and cheerful. They like to get to know about you. To my surprise they even gave me a considerable new patient gift--an emergency car kit. And it wasn't some dinky gift, it was pretty good quality stuff! Again, reinvesting in their customers. Wow! I would take half a star off because I had specifically requested a particular dentist and only scheduled the evaluation due to my own busy schedule, but when I arrived they had rescheduled me with someone else (who was very, very, nice!) and scheduled a cleaning without telling me. So I wasn't too happy about that, but despite my obvious frustration the staff was still very nice to me. The equipment, what limited I did see, appeared to be up to date, including the xray machine, which was quite fancy (again, nice sign of investing in their patients!), easy and comfortable. The dentist I saw was very nice and friendly. And unlike the other place, didn't try to convince me that I had cavities to fill. He took a look around and didn't see anything urgent. He explained some of my tooth sensitivity and that was really helpful. Overall this is a great place. If you end up going, tell them Sujan Patel referred you (maybe I'll win a prize or something!). read more

After moving to Rochester, we needed to find a new dentist. This dental office gets amazing reviews on other wires and scheduling was super easy, so we gave them a try. They were so friendly and welcoming from the desk staff when you walk in, to the hygienist, to the dentist. The office is very clean and neat. There was a TV in my room so I could watch something while getting my teeth cleaned. They were sure to explain everything they did and clarify if they thought there would be an expense to me outside of my insurance. read more

This dental group charges twice what other dentists charge who are members of Delta dental's provider panel. Worse, their financial policy is to imply that they follow the customary and usual charges that other dentists charge. Because they are not Delta dental providers, they can charge whatever they want and force you to pay it. The receptionists will say they are Delta dental providers and denied they have said that later. Their dentists go out of their way to reassure you that they are not inflating their bills. Terrible experience. I called to make a first time dental appointment. At first the gentlemen on the phone seamed very informative and empathic I asked if my insurance was accepted for new clients and even told him the details of my plan and the difficulties I'd been having. I was reassured that they definitely accepted my insurance and I made and appointment for 9 am. Fast forward to day of appointment and I was told my appointment was scheduled at a later time. They made effort to get me in in 10-15 minutes which was appreciated but when they asked for me to fill out new patient info and I showed them my insurance card they said oh we don't take that. Not only do I feel like they clearly wasted my time but this is an appointment I booked because I needed it. The last week i could have been waiting for a REAL appointment. Get it together northwest dental group. This is bad customer service to a tea and is just all around very unacceptable. read more

I have health anxiety which mean that I don't like to get medical procedures done of any kind. My mouth was killing me and I had suffered with pain for months. I had heard the commercials that if you call in the morning they will see you that same day. Northwest had me sitting in a dentist chair in 3 hrs with a wonderful dentist named Katie Odland. Dr Odland put me at ease and explain to me what was causing my pain and how she could relieve it. I left there feeling better and with a treatment plan. Great dentist, who is no longer there, but terrible business sense and terrible administration staff. Also the building is old with poor parking. It is located on the second floor, so all the x-rays shake as people walk around. Not great for diagnostics. read more
