There are places that have a coach or a buckboard or a stage coach. But no place like this has EVERYTHING you wanted to see in horse drawn. Even a hearse restored from 30 years of neglect. And all as show room lacquer prime as can be. Military discount given. We were here 3 hours. So worth it. I had no idea Studebaker made carriages and cars. Lots to learn here. Update: I forgot yesterday to mention the personal explanation your each visitor gets at the beginning and questions and answers at midpoint. When you enter this museum, you see a large variety of beautiful carriages. Each carriage has a brief summary of the location it was manufactured in, highlights of its unique design and history. Some carriages are totally restored to their original grandeur and others are kept in their working condition. They also have a huge collection of sleighs, sleds, accessories and clothing from different decades. You can spend a couple hours reading all the signage or walk through and get an overview of this remarkable collection. The woman who greeted us was very friendly and knowledgeable. She "touched base" with us a few times to answer any questions we had. She also pointed out unique features on some of the carriages. This is really a fun and engaging museum. It's small enough that you could spend just an hour if that's all you have, but it's got enough information and artifacts for a much longer visit. Really beautifully restored carriages, I never really had thought about what it would be like to ride in them, but I honestly feel like my visit today allowed me to have a better sense of life in the 1800s. My kids are really into the Anne of Green Gables books and we had such a good time re-enacting different scenes. They have a sweet recreation of a one-room school house that even my 3 year-old enjoyed. Loved all the old clothes and other things from the era. read more

The show begins before you even enter the building. Outside the museum there are several mostly unrestored horse-drawn vehicles including: a road grader, a crop duster, and a water tanker. Inside you will find all kinds of sleighs and carriages in beautifully restored condition. They range from the very simple to the very elaborate. People with lots of money rode in style back in those days too. Some of the carriages even had glass windows. There are also a couple of hearses. One very interesting item is a real chuck wagon. This was supposedly invented by a man named Charles, but the docent told me that back then "chuck" was another word for trail food. read more

The Northwest Carriage Museum has a wonderful and well curated collection. You'll see examples of how both the wealthy and common travelled day to day as well as how they might have made their final journeys in Hearse carriages. There is also an interactive part of the museum for children. They can even choose from period clothing to dress in for photo ops in one of the carriages. You don't have to be a history buff to appreciate this museum. There is something for everyone and you'll come away with a greater knowledge and appreciation for wheeled travel. read more

What a great Labor Day surprise. This is a very interesting and well done museum with easy access off the highway. You don't need a lot of time unless you want to thoroughly look at the exhibits. There are placards with details and interesting side stories. It's a fun thing to take an hour or two and enjoy looking at history through the evolution of transportation in our country. I only wish there were more stars, but if I was a max that I could give. This was an extremely interesting museum was very knowledgeable staff. If you were a movie buff you'll enjoy the coach from gone with the wind and the coach from Shirley Temple's Little Princess. The museum also hosts and interactive section that is good for kids and adults alike. Several stunning example of coaches throughout the years painstakingly refurbished to like new condition. Holy shmagoli! Who knew.....I saw it from the HWY and didn't give it much thought, but something told me to turn off the road. I am so glad I did. What a treat and fascinating exhibit. Famous carriages from movies and all the history that goes along with them . I had no idea that there were so many styles and uses. They are works of art and I was in total awe. I couldn't believe that so many came out of a collection. Can you imagine collecting carriages; just that alone is stunning. Thank you to this collector for sharing these works of art. The best part was a private tour and the young lady was absolutely adorable and sweet and I had so much fun talking to her. I wish this museum much success. It is a great memory of my travels. I even bought a bumper sticker for my roof top carrier iit got put in an honorable spot on it. It is a smallish museum, but allow yourself time to enjoy ...wow wow wow. Definitely a "must see" if you're in the area or driving along Highway 101. Beautiful collection of 19th century carriages, buggies and wagons in addition to clothing, photographs and various items representing the time period. Yelp sums up a 5 star rating as 'Woohoo! As good as it gets!' and I most certainly couldn't agree more with regards to the Northwest Carriage Museum. I must mention that I grew up in the neighboring town of South Bend, knew the grandchildren of the man who made this museum possible, and also thoroughly love visiting any and all museums. With that said, I had no idea what I was about to discover before I visited the carriage museum today with my mother and grandmother. What I found was quite possibly one of the best hidden, but hopefully not for long, gems that this area has to offer. Along with the 2 dozen restored and brilliantly displayed carriages housed in Raymond are period photographs showing carriages at work, charming stories about the vehicles and their previous owners, and all sorts of historical accoutrements to really bring these marvelous carriages to life, sparking thought provoking discoveries and, at least for me, fantasies of the gilded age. And to round out this superb visit, our party received an enthusiastic and thoroughly informative impromptu tour from the loveliest lady ever, Kay, in which we were shown the little details that make the carriages something more than just a means of conveyance, but truly works of art unto themselves. This museum is amazing on so many levels; the thoughtful and thorough collecting of Gary & Cece Dennis, the curation and directorship of Laurie and Jerry, and especially the knowledgable and enthusiastic staff! Certainly a must see for anybody and everybody, especially if you happen to be a history buff, classic car enthusiast, craftsman, or artisan. What a FABULOUS surprise for my husband and I to come across this museum during our camping trip at Graylands Beach. I can not say enough wonderful things about this place. The Northwest Carriage Museum is a "must see" for anyone loving history and visiting the Pacific Northwest. The museum houses one of the best collections of 19th century horse drawn vehicles and artifacts in the country. It is incredible that a world class museum like this is located in such a beautiful small town. It is open year around and is the largest tourist attraction in all of Pacific County Wa. The carriages, wagons, sleighs and buggies are incredible. They have over 60 vehicles. The museum is elegant with lighting and displays. The famous movie carriage are so gorgeous. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. I can't say enough good things about this museum. It truly is one of the finest museums in the country. They have a great interactive ara for kids and adults. Their gift shop is well stocked and has something for everyone. You need to visit this museum. You will not be dissappointed. read more

'was in town visiting relatives and got a chance to go to the carriage museum. This museum is filled with about two dozen finely restored carriages from the good ole horse n' buggy days. Their pride and joy were two C-Spring landaus. There were classy carriages as well as many work carriages. They have a little gift shop and a section for kids to dress up, take pictures, and take the reins. A very nice little diversion. :-) read more

Stopped here yesterday. Actually a very interesting place filled with lots of carriages. I must admit that I didn't know there were so many different kinds so it was very educational. They have quite a few hands on activities for kids too. The high light for us was seeing two carriages that were in movies. One from the original Ghost and Mrs Muir and the other from Gone with the Wind. Staff member was very helpful and informative. read more

We've visited quite a selections of small museums during our RV travels over the years. The NW Carriage Museum is certainly one of the best ... and quite a surprise in an otherwise out-of-the-way smallish-town. This museum as more than two dozen carriages and wagons, mostly from the 1850 to 1900 period. Almost all have been restored to like-new condition (a rarity for the many carriages and wagons I've seen displayed at other historic locations in Oregon and Washington). Seeing them in their full glory makes it quite obvious what status symbols they actually were. Ranging from "middle class" Studebaker 'buggies" to the vehicles of the super-rich (who would have several carriages, each for particular purposes), this museum has a selection that gives a perfect cross-section of society from that era. The staff was enthusiastic and informative (without being intrusive). They pointed out specific features and facts about various vehicles that you'd not necessarily notice right off ... plus they had the individual history of some of the carriages, such as past owners, use in movies, etc. We had a rather more pleasurable visit to the museum than I might have anticipated, and learned quite a bit of history of "the carriage trade" as well. Highly recommended ... and I must say, I'm glad I took the time to visit. read more

What a great surprise this museum was. Since it was raining we drove over from Grayling beach for something to do and tried out this fabulous museum. The carriages they have inside have been amazingly renovated to their original, or better, condition. We spent quite a while in there looking at all 45 carriages. The personnel were friendly and helpful and answered any questions we had. I highly suggest stopping by this museum if you are anywhere near the area. It is very unique. I went into town with my hubsand who wanted to see the carriage museum I wasnt really wanting to but after getting in and seeing all these beautiful carriages I was so impressed with the workmen ship and beauty of them I could of spend hours looking at them . I was visiting family in the area in late August and stopped in at the Northwest Carriage Museum. What a gem! The place itself is beautiful nestled at the far end of a beautiful park, but the tour of the carriages was amazing! I love to visit museums and was pleasantly surprised by the exquisite tour offered by the curator, Jerry Bowman. His wife (and the director), Laurie, was also there in period dress! I didn't know much about carriages when I walked in, but I sure knew a few things when I walked out! Thank you for the wonderful afternoon! I will definitely be back. read more
