Mermaid painting at the entrance of the museum. Spell binding eyes. This photo doesn't do it justice.

So you'd think a little 'touristy museum' like the Mermaid Museum would just be a cheesy set of displays merely to lure you into the gift shop. Hubby and I went in after visiting the Westport Winery the previous day for a wine tasting and photo/vid shoot. We paid our $3 and went in. I was really impressed by the styling of the displays, the variety of artifacts and all the great info on the mermaid lore throughout the ages and across the globe. I was really glad to take the time to visit this place. Not just for the kids but we 'grownups' liked the mermaid magic too!!

5 stars on a Mermaid Museum? Yes! This was so much more than a Museum but let me start with it. "The INTERNATIONAL MERMAID MUSEUM is dedicated to teaching ocean ecology from seashore to sea floor immersed in mermaid mythology uniting world oceanic cultures." Probably 30 "exhibits" that give info about mermaid lore, origins, and pop culture mixed with facts about the ocean and its creatures. It isn't overly tacky or cheap looking and has some thought and quality behind it. What makes this 5 stars is when you add in everything attached to and around the museum. Attached-gift shop and wine and liquor tasting room. Around it-out door games(chess, horseshoes, bocce), small dog park, gardens, outdoor art, and more. Full Restaurant next door as well but I didn't go in. Would definitely go back and take guests. Museum admission is $3 for a single but I think there are discounted family rates. They have a "treasure hunt" for kids to help keep them engaged in the museum.

    New fancy mermaid in town.

This quirky nonprofit (!) is definitely worth the $3 entrance fee and 20 minutes it takes to walk around. The museum houses a collection of mermaid art and mermaid mythology from around the world... and has a whole bunch of unusual stuff too - like a mermaid skeleton on the wall! We were thoroughly entertained. We were disappointed that no one seemed to be around to enforce masking requirements - although there were only six of us in the room four people (the people that were not us) were not wearing masks. And, in general I think this is one of those places that would really shine with some docents to give the place a bit more context.

The Mermaid Museum is pretty cool and definitely an interesting stop off if you are in the area. I'm so thankful a friend alerted me of it's recent opening when I told her I was planning a trip to Westport. You will notice it when you drive by as it is a beautiful white building with a lighthouse structure. Not sure which parts of this complex are actually considered the Mermaid museum, but there is a large parking lot with a couple buildings and many outdoor things to do. I came across a small maze, outdoor wooden chess, a musical play area, a sculpture garden, etc. I certainly could have spent much more time enjoying the outdoor area, but unfortunately I was in a time crunch. The Mermaid Museum is currently free, but not sure if this is just an opening special. On the day I visited, which was a weekend at opening time, it was quite crowded. I only checked out the indoor section briefly due to this as we are currently in covid times, but of course masks are required. There was so much information to learn about Mermaids, I had no idea. Even though I am not a Mermaid lover I found this really interesting. There are lots of cool relics to check out and you can learn all about the different types of Mermaids. There was also some beautiful Mermaid art for sale being displayed and a movie playing in a much larger room, but I did not take the time to watch what was being shown. My favorite part of this stop off was the wine tasting in the outdoor area. Westport Winery makes delicious wine and you can sample 5 types for 7$ currently. They are served so pretty and glisten in the sun. There are lots of fruit wines available, which are favorites of mine. We picked up a couple 30$ bottles to enjoy at a later date. They were all so good it was hard to choose, but I opted for a cranberry one in honor this areas cranberry operations. They also have a distillery at this location and we will definitely sample this on our next visit. This complex is part of my motivation to want to return to Westport sometime soon. I did not do this location justice by only allowing 2 hours to visit, next time I will have a much more leisurely day and plan to have a meal while here. Everyone I interacted with was super friendly and seemed to be very excited about the jobs they had here. This was the highlight of my trip.

We came by here on a late Saturday afternoon on our motorcycle ride through the area. It's located on the grounds of the Westport Winery and Gardens. It's $3 per person to get into the museum and it was well worth it. The museum is open from 11am - 6pm. I love roadside oddities and this is definitely it. We paid for the entrance at the gift shop and purchased a rice krispy treat and several delicious marionberry caramels. The owner, Blain was very fun-loving and friendly and took the time to give us a brief introduction of the museum. He started and owned the largest dive shop business in Hawaii and his wife, Kim was the first female charter boat Captain. The lobby has varying mermaid-themed art from varying artists that you can also purchase. The bathrooms are also located here and they're quite clean. There's a cute little area with mermaid fin covers to put on yourself for photo opportunities. We were in our motorcycle boots, chaps, and leathers so I didn't take partake in this. The museum is filled with mermaid mythology and information on ocean ecology. I found it rather amusing. The owner, Blain walked around from time to time to visit with guests and give information about certain exhibits. I loved that he adds that touch. The grounds has varying art pieces, a garden maze, beautiful garden, and a restaurant. You could easily spend an entire day here. We spent only an hour here as we were already running late on our ride. We'll definitely be back here. I highly recommend coming by if you're in the area.

The International Mermaid Museum is the newest addition to the award winning Westport Winery Garden Resort in Aberdeen WA. The museum is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Per their official site, they are "dedicated to teaching ocean ecology from seashore to sea floor immersed in mermaid mythology." Part science, part art gallery, but mostly mythology, it's a fun and interesting way to learn about mermaid lore from around the world. You'll get an overview of mer culture from days of old to modern times. There are interesting displays made from mannequins artistically transformed into mermaids, some cool vintage movie posters for mermaid centric movies (how many mer-movies can you name beyond The Little Mermaid?) and a very cool mermaid carving from a circa 1800 carousel that came from a French Colony in Egypt. Plan on spending around 15 minutes for a brief walkthrough, or around an hour if you like to read all the educational info on the displays. Note: The lighting on the info boards makes the text very difficult to read (due to glare from the colorful overhead lighting). It would be a significant improvement if lighting could be adjusted so that the educational material was easier to read. Overall, this is a great addition to both the resort and Grays Harbor and worth the small donation ($3 at the time of this review) for a chance to spend some time with the "sirens" ;-)

As soon as you get out of your car, all around you are creations, imaginations and skillful art displayed. From wire mermaids to glass blown pieces of mermaids, and sculptures of mermaids. My wife and Daughter really wanted to have a mermaid experience, and shortly after we got there, I found out that I did too. As soon as you enter to your right is the front desk, straight in front of you is the mermaid fins you could slip on (daughter loved this part) and pose on a little Coral rock slide. To your left after you walk in there is a bunch of art along the walls, then a big flat screen showing a Marine documentary about Corals. To the right of the TV are double doors leading into the Museum. As we stepped in, the floor was covered with glitter, and the lighting turned a light blue color, with some original clear bulbs to invite you to read the descriptions of each monument. I thoroughly enjoy reading about the histories of towns, and cities with daunting stories and experiences to enhance the visit to where you're at. I learned a lot about the town of Westport and saw a multitude of wildlife that visits or surrounds the city, read plenty of Mermaid mythology and got to see some GIANT shark teeth! There was so much art inside this museum, my Daughters excitement only brought a more fulfilling experience. The front staff are extremely social too, you can easily get lost in great conversation with them, and have that be part of the experience too. Absolutely incredible place. Highly recommend to anyone who has an interest in mermaids, or a curiosity about the surrounding wildlife and is willing to give it a try. 5 stars from me because everything matched what makes a perfect experience for entertainment, and adding a touch of class with the wholesome conversation. Thank you to the 2 gals at the front desk. You are phenomenal and so is your establishment!

While it's a kinda small place the history told and folk lore described here was perfect. A lot of neat mermaid related items here too. Only gets a mark off as it's part of a winery and seems like that's the main focus. Maybe a little more on the museum would help.

The Mermaid Museum came up as something to do on the way home from a weekend trip to Seabrook this winter (thanks to a billboard sign in Aberdeen), so we stopped in on the way back home. We have a 5 and 2 year old and the 5 year old is obsessed with mermaids. Seemed worth checking out. It's a nonprofit and there is a small entrance fee to go in but it was only $3 and worth it to see all of the interesting displays. Some of them were a little much for the 5 year old as they didn't quite look like the quintessential Ariel. However, nothing seemed to totally frighten her. It was fun to read about mermaid lore from other countries and see the artifacts and fun oddities. If you're in the area (there's a winery next door!) it's an interesting stop!

    Mermaids galore!

I drove from Seattle on a rainy Sunday to see Kurt Cobain's hometown. Drive past the Welcome to Aberdeen sign ("Come as You Are") and about 10 Minutes later pulled up at the museum. The grounds are amazing. Spent about 20 minutes exploring the gardens, the topiary and the hedge maze. Museum he it's share of kitsch but filled me with a desire to read more stores of mermaid mythology. Each exhibit explored different legends and how those legends tie in with marine biology. Plus some pop culture references to "Splash" and "The Little Mermaid." A one-of-a-kind, family friendly blend of kitsch and science.

We just tried their new breakfast menu and it was great. Huge portions of very tasty food. I had…read morethe half serving of biscuits and gravy, which was enough for two. Light flaky biscuits with tasty, slightly spicy gravy full of sausage. My partner had the breakfast sandwich, also enough for two. Same light, generous buttery biscuit served with a side of nicely browned and crispy cottage fries. All served with their usual cheerful efficiency and friendliness by windows looking onto the beautiful gardens. We didn't take pictures but you all should definitely try it for yourselves!

I have been waiting to write this review! I live near the Westport Winery but have never…read morebeen...until today. My friend and I came here to shop, try some wine and get lunch and we did all three! Firstly, the gift shop is superb and right when you enter. It has a ton of different dips, mixes, olive oils, treats and things for dogs, and gadgets! To the right of the sho is the tasting room with a huge bar in the center where you can do your wine and spirit tastings! My friend bought a bottle of their wine after we tried some and the customer service and town locals were chatting away and engaging in conversation, they were so friendly and helpful. To the left, you are greeted at the hostess stand along with their amazing bakery items which you should note are DEFINITELY worth the money. IYKYK. We got seated quickly and were given a choice on where. We chose the back room close to the electric fireplaces. Our waiter greeted us promptly and his name is Bob I cannot say enough wonderful things about this man who owned 3 steakhouses in Seattle! He was kind, he was quick witted, he was informative when it came to how the wine flights worked and the food. He kept up with us ordering appetizers, drinks and even more food! For our appetizers we got the beach bread and mermaids on horseback which were bacon wrapped shrimp with a pineapple sauce (YUM) I got the Shrimp Pesto Ravioli and my friend got the Farmers Favorite which is a French dip with house made potato salad. Everything was super fresh, hot and delicious! We can't way to come back and try more!
