Northwest Biscotti is a small bakery and retail shop in Marysville, Washington that was founded in 2004 by Frances Turner. I learned about this business in 2021 via my coffee subscription, which at the time offered a few select flavors of this biscotti as an add-on. Exploring the business's website, I discovered they had a lot of different flavors. The biscotti were available in two-biscotti packages. I love Biscotti. I wanted to try ALL of them! I ordered a package of every flavor that was available at the time:
Coconut-Lime
Red Velvet
Apricot Almond
Orange Cranberry
Cherry Chocolate
Blueberry Lemon
Triple Chocolate
Lemon Poppyseed
Raspberry White Chocolate
Almond
Anise Cherry
My first surprise was when I received the box, which was tiny. I couldn't understand how 11 flavors of biscotti could possibly fit in such a minuscule box. When I opened the box, I discovered that each two biscotti package was considerably smaller than any single biscotti I've ever purchased anywhere.
My second surprise was the biscotti itself. From the top, it was oblong and biscotti shaped. But it didn't look like a biscotti from the side, nor did it have the texture of biscotti. Biscotti are traditional Italian pastries that are dry and crisp, ideal for dipping in hot coffee or tea.
I realized that in my excitement to potentially have a great source of a wide variety of small batch biscotti, I failed to notice this biscotti was being marketed as "Not your grandmother's hard biscotti."
Northwest Biscotti is selling a biscotti shaped cookie that otherwise bears absolutely no resemblance to a biscotti. If you like biscotti, you will not be happy with this product. If you want a shelf stable cookie that's good for 12 months, you can do better.
