North state does a fine efficient job recycling. They are my goto recycle center in Redding and have been for over 25 years. They process multiple grades of steel scrap, car batteries, CRV and all the various types of non-ferrous metals. Any issues people have not pulling forward in the CRV line are primarily due to customers who are too busy looking at their phones to notice how inconsiderate they are being to others waiting for them to move. read more

I went there for the 1st time last week and it was an hour wait to recycle aluminum ... and there is only 1 place to cash the recycling check you receive! We need another recycling option or recycling will become obsolete here in Redding. read more

The city of Redding has a very efficient trash collection system. It involves the separating and recycling of bottles, cans, etc for a profit to them and a fee for you. So I need to handle my recycling elsewhere. Not for the cash, rather for the principle...if you know what I mean. This is an easy, drive through, friendly place. No worries about getting something in your tires but be careful, it's a busy yard. Depending on the time of day; you're in and out with a little coin in your pocket. RIPOFF!! The day I recycled copper the spot price was $3.47/lb for #2 and I was paid $1.95 at Northstate. I had sorted my copper into #1 and #2 but Northstate Recycling said it was all #2 and only worth $1.95/lb. Lead acid batteries were only worth 10 cents/lb! I can't thank these guys enough! I rented a big roll off container for fire cleanup on my property.. The yard manager Wilson, Brian the driver/operator? and the gal at the front desk really took care of me. They set me up with a date, Brian called to let me know he was on his way and then delivered it no problem. We were able to get so much done because of this container. It was great! My first time taking my cans & plastic CRV to NorState Recycling. Had a great experience. Once I observed where to get the bins to load up and where to get in line it was a pretty smooth process. The gentleman receiving the recycling (Dennis) was friendly and helpful when I had a question. There's no bells or whistles here but hey...what'd you expect...it's a recycling center! Once your stuff is weighed they give you a receipt tally to be taken into the office located on the other side of the building. The young woman receiving my recycling ticket info was cordial, competent and helpful. NorState Recycling is conveniently located off of Market Street between Redding & Anderson. I will be returning to do business with them in the future. read more

I stopped at Northstate Recycling this morning about 10:30 AM. It was a busy day, because it was a Monday and sunny (for a change), and there was a small line of cars ahead of me. I had several containers of cans and CRV glass bottles to cash in. I was amazed how fast the whole process moved, and so very smoothly. Just put your stuff in the containers (the employee who served me courteously explained which ones to use and what to do next). He weighed it up gave me a little receipt, which I took around to the front office. A courteous young lady printed out a full-size receipt which I could read and gave me the money. I swear there were at least 2 or 3 vehicles ahead of me when I first arrived and the whole operation took no more than 20 minutes. I absolutely agree with previous reviewers. This is definitely a 5 star operation with ***** courteous employees. I hope they are getting paid well. They definitely deserve it. I'm very proud to have a business like this in my neighborhood! read more

I went there today and was told if my recycling was not sorted ahead of time that I had to leave. Guy was extremly rude and couldn't have cared less. He wasn't doing his job apparently as I drove in and got in line like I have done over the last 10 years or so when I have gone there before but apparently there were other people in line just not IN the line and parked elsewhere, I guess I was supposed to have ESP as that would have been the only way I could have known this because the rude guy wasn't at the entry way where he should have been if he is supposed to guide people. I wouldn't take them a single can after the rude way they acted today and they will NEVER EVER have my business or recomendation EVER again. read more

My daughter has been saving aluminum cans and plastic this summer. Recycling was a good way for her to earn a few bucks, learn a bit about helping out the planet, and help out around the house. The weather is cooling off and beverage consumption has slowed around the house so yesterday we decided to make a run to North State Recycling. This place is quite exciting! Both my daughter and I were looking all over the place at everything that was going on. This place is much more than the local recycling center in front of the local supermarket. They recycle everything you could imagine. The way they have things set up you get to drive right inside their huge building to start prepping your recyclables. While inside you can catch glimpses of all sorts of machines moving and crushing all types of materials. After getting all your stuff ready in the wire baskets provided an attendant will then weigh and process your recyclables. He will then hand you a slip that you will need to take to the office for payment. Jump in the car, drive around the building to the other side of the place and you're at the office. The cash out process is simple. Just a drivers license and a signature and you're in business. If your take is above 30 dollars you will receive a check for the amount. A couple of things to keep in mind... -it's very loud. Lots of work going on. -it's muddy and wet during and after rainy days. -it can be busy if you hit it at the wrong time. I've always have had good experiences with NorthState. But you do need to remember that it is a large recycling center and they receive and process an incredible volume of metal materials. Their staff are busy, but I've found them helpful and courteous. If they have the opportunity to provide assistance, they often do so. read more

I am disgusted with this business. Their rates are inconsistent.I had brought in 2 different loads at different weight of the same material on the same day. . First load was lighter than second load (reminder- same material) and they paid more on the lighter load than the heavier load. They are rude every time I go in. They will only pay you half of what you are owed. The employees rate your metal at "their call". I took clean aluminum in and they called it pot metal. extruded aluminum is called sheet aluminum. They do everything they can to cheat you out of your money.If you are not very careful they will take your metals and put them in the bin and then tell you what it is. You cant even get it back at that point. everyone i have talked to is having the same problem. Their scales are weighing only about 2/3 the actual weight. Weigh it at home and it will be less when you get there. Do not use them unless you want to loose money. They are cheaters with a bad attitude.There are other choices here in Shasta county. They basically tell you take it or leave it. I for one will never go back. I would rather take a drive to chico then ever deal with these people again. read more

This morning I sold some aluminum sheet roofing at this facility.(northstate recycling). After being weighed in and I'm on the scale, the nice lady handed me a tag with her extended arm.After off loading my roofing, I drove onto the sckales, the nice lady asked me to bring her the weigh in receipt as she needed to get my name from it. I stepped off the scales to hand her the receipt from weigh in, she immediately said thanks and instructed me to go park. I wandered why she didn't get the receipt with the extended arm and if she weighed me out without my 190 pound body on the scales. I wander if they are enjoying the savings they got from me not being on the scale. Beware, these people can take advantage of you very easily. read more

I took in aluminum cans and #1 plastic bottles today for our non-profit organization. With over 145 pounds of aluminum and about the same of plastic we were expecting a healthy payout. Unfortunately, the attendant failed to tell me that they only pay 20 cents per pound on aluminum cans if you bring in more than 100 pounds. (That is 20 cents as opposed to the going price of $1.60 per pound.) Had he been honest enough to mention that fact to us we would have had three options. We could have held back 50 pounds or so for another day.... (That's over $75, and well worth making another trip down the next day) We could have given 50 pounds of cans to the person in line behind us......(We would have then collected $160.00 and helped out someone else in the process.) Or, best option of all, my husband and I could have split up the total amount of cans and collected the whole amount......which by the way would have been over $200. Instead, our only option was to take the 20 cents per pound and basically donate the rest to Northstate Recycling. This is a dishonest business. Never again will we use this business, nor would we consider recommending them to others. Beware. read more
