Wonderful view of the mining plant and what we assumed was a waste water treatment site along with Lake Superior

A great campground along the North Shore. We stayed at cart in site 17, you're right on the cliffs…read moreso the view is beautiful. It's a pretty spacious site as well with a private bench that overlooks the lake. The walk in is about 5 minutes but there is a slight incline towards the sites so not a bad walk but with a cart full of stuff you might be feeling it. Beware of the flies!! The flies were so awful at our site, not sure if that's the case with the other sites but we decided to do a hike mid day because we couldn't relax at the site without a swarm of flies around us. we probably won't go back to this site because of that. The site has a bear box but critters can still get inside!! we have some of our food nibbled on both nights so they definitely know there way around. Pebble beach is beautiful, busy at times but great for relaxing, dipping your toes in or enjoying a picnic. Speaking of picnics, they have a designated "picnic area" that has a pavilion, an inside multipurpose room, flush toilets and plenty of picnic tables along the shoreline. It's not my favorite campsite along the North Shore, but still beautiful and worth the visit.

I very much recommend paying to go through the lighthouse and gate keepers home. There is also a…read moreshort video that is quite informational. The views from the lighthouse are spectacular. After you see that, walk down to the shore and capture a beautiful picture of the lighthouse from there. It is worth mentioning that every staff member we interacted with was friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable.

I love state parks, and this one was everything I hoped for and more…read more Visited on a Saturday in August so it was quite crowded, but we still managed to find a parking spot and once we left the parking lot it wasn't too bad. The visitors center is large and clean with lots of information, bathrooms, a gift shop, and places to sit around a fireplace. They were doing a lesson on primitive fire building when we arrived. We unfortunately had a limited amount of time, so we only did the brief hike down the beach and out to Shovel Point, but both were absolutely stunning and I wish we had more time. I'd love to come back someday and hike more and possibly camp as well.

Minnesota really does their state parks correctly - they sometimes double as rest stops for weary…read moretravelers. It's totally a win-win. The rest stop area of the state park visitor center was very nice. Picture windows let the outside sunlight in. Vending machines were well stocked, and the washrooms were spacious and clean. The visitor center was large, with an area with exhibits and displays about the history and the natural features of the park. The information desk abuts this area. There's a gift shop that sells souvenirs and last minute hiking/camping items. There's also ice cream and small snacks. If you want to spend significant time outside here during the summer and forgot mosquito repellent, I highly recommend picking up a canister of 40% DEET. You'll definitely need it! Palisade Head was absolutely gorgeous.
