The exam was not conducted as thoroughly as it should have been, and he ran four cytology tests only to prescribe the same medication they always receive. After spending $700 for a basic allergy appointment, I am definitely not coming back. Additionally, I am still waiting for a prescription that was supposed to be sent to Costco; two days later, I still don't have the medication my dogs need. This is absolutely unacceptable.

I raised the possibility with her two times over the course of a couple months--both because his lab values were high and the dose seemed high (higher than what I take as a human). She finally admitted she screwed up and he was indeed WAY over medicated. We had bought the medication from them and had spent hundreds of dollars trying to dial in a dose that could never work. They offered to refund me ONLY if I signed a NON DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT. They don't want me sharing what happened with anyone. Someone from the corporate office even called and asked me to consider what this could do to the vets career if I shared my story!!!!!! What about my cat and all of our pets? I believe I have a duty as an animal lover to say what happened, even if it means they won't refund me. So now I'm left to handle this in small claim's court and I found a new vet who will hopefully care more about my pet's health. I chose a private practice and not a corporate one, that's for sure.

When one of my cats got sick, they tried to upsell me, pushing a pointless and pricey phone consultation. After I refused, they ghosted me, essentially holding hostage the testing and medicine needed by my cat, who was by then vomiting and having diarrhea left and right. How is that what's best for the patient? Seemed like they were just focused on boosting their bottom line. If that weren't bad enough, while I was busy *paying them* after what would be my last appointment there, the receptionist made a rude comment to my face. She followed it up by asking in a critical tone why I'd adopted a third animal. This because I sometimes had to reschedule appointments due to work conflicts. I guess they're only looking for a certain type of client here. Like the guy who came into the waiting room to pick up his dog and bellowed at the female vet with a pixie cut, "I'm NOT going to have to call you THEY/THEM, am I?" Apparently that is cool with GBAH, but working full-time to support three rescue animals is not. I think my wallet and I are going to find a practice that's more simpatico. .

On Wednesday, September 24th at 3pm, I went to pick up my standard poodle after his neuter and gastropexy surgery. I was brought into Room #2 by a man from the front desk and told I'd be reunited with my dog shortly. As soon as the man walked into the back, I immediately heard a dog howling and crying. I was fairly certain it was mine. Moments later, I clearly heard a woman yell "shut up" at the dog, then yell again to other staff members: "someone shut him up." Shortly after, I heard the same man who greeted me laughed and joked, "he'll be gone in 10 minutes," while my dog continued to cry. Then the woman shouted my dog's actual name while yelling at him. At that point, I shouted, "Bring me my dog. I can hear him crying and I can hear you yelling at him." I opened the door to the front desk and told the woman there that I could hear the yelling and wanted my dog immediately. Her response? "We have a lot of dogs back there." I told her I knew it was mine--but even if it wasn't, no animal should ever be yelled at in a veterinary clinic, especially after a major surgery. When the nurse, Ron, finally came in, I immediately told him I had heard the woman yelling at my dog. His dismissive response was, "I have no idea who that was." On my way out, I confronted the man who had first led me to the room. I told him I had heard everything: my dog crying, the woman yelling, and his own joking remark. His response? "I don't know what you're talking about." So let me be clear: I raised this concern to three different staff members, and each one brushed it off, denied, or covered for the behavior instead of acknowledging it was wrong and taking care of the issue. That tells me this is not an isolated incident--it's a cultural and reoccuring problem. We are home now, and my dog continues to cry. He is clearly in pain and distressed--and knowing how the staff treated him behind closed doors makes this even more devastating. He was there for several hours and I can't imagine what he was going through or how he was treated when I wasn't there. My dog is a standard poodle who is used to crates and kennels--he regularly goes to grooming competitions, gets groomed at salons, and has been boarded with zero issues. This was not a matter of him being "difficult." This was a matter of unprofessional, uncaring, and cruel staff. I would never trust Christensen Animal Hospital again. Their staff demonstrated not only a lack of compassion but also a willingness to cover for one another rather than protect the animals entrusted to them. If you love your pets, do not bring them here.

After being a client of Christensen Animal hospital for many years I became increasingly…read moredissatisfied with the care provided there. For the duration of my relationship with Christensen I recognized that their pricing was higher than other clinics I'd used over the years. I've had dogs and cats all of my life and had been responsible for veterinary care decisions of my animals for well over 20 years. So I feel like I have a good feel for veterinary care expenses. The good: the staff is responsive and friendly. My calls were always answered or if I left a message I received a prompt response. The text messaging function is super convenient. My pets received quality care there. The bad: While I long suspected I was being over charged or being recommended services that were unnecessary, my most recent experience confirmed this to be true. The general office fee is above average and they insist on a formal exam and full fee for any appointment. I began to feel this was excessive when they insisted that my dog required a full wellness exam every 6 months or they would not maintain his boosters for Bordetella. I had never had a clinic insist on that, normally the booster was considered a tech visit. This resulted in a $300 cost per visit per pet every 6 months. My suspicions were validated in my last visit to the clinic. I had gotten a puppy last spring and over the summer brought him in with a cough of unknown origin. They performed a thorough exam, noted it was likely a bacterial infection & provided medication which quickly resolved the issue. During that visit I mentioned he attended doggy daycare regularly. To which they noted daycare was a "germ fest and not good for young dogs." Fast forward a few months and my puppy was scheduled to be neutered. I brought him in as instructed for blood work a few days prior. The day before his scheduled surgery the vet emailed me to say his bloodwork looked fine but noted a "very mild change in his white blood cells that can indicate stress-given his normal physical exam". The cost of the exam & blood work was $300+. I brought my dog in for surgery early, stayed for the technician check in and another physical exam. Spoke at length with the vet about what to expect & then left. Within 30 minutes of me leaving I received a text asking me if I had observed my dog coughing in the last 24-48 hours. I had not, but the tech noted he was coughing at the clinic. This seemed odd because at no time during my time there in the morning did he cough. About 30 minutes after the text I received a call directly from the doctor informing me that since I dropped off my dog he had been coughing excessively and they were concerned the previous bacterial infection had returned. Again this seemed odd since I had never observed him coughing at any time leading up to the surgery and he did not cough at any point during the check in process. After a fairly heated discussion with the doctor where I noted my skepticism in what they were claiming. They noted that they weren't accusing me of being dishonest but they were just concerned about was my dog's well being. I asked about any physical signs that he may be ill & was told his lungs were clear. At that point the doctor brought up the blood work noting it might be an early sign of an infection. Requested permission to perform an additional blood test to check for a bacterial infection and said I'd need to come get my dog. I asked for the cost of the tests they wanted to run & was quoted $400-$500. The vet stated they would need to wait a full 10 days for the results before considering rescheduling. I declined the test and went and got my dog. From the moment he was returned to me he never coughed not once. He hasn't so much as sneezed. That's when I decided to change vets. I'm happy to report, my dog successfully underwent his surgery this week. The new vet did not require new blood work, they accepted the blood work already performed, they did not observe the white blood cell issue that had been mentioned. They asked to examine him the day before surgery and DID NOT CHARGE ME for the exam separately, they included it in my final bill. He had no issues during the surgery and is recovering well. If I had agreed to the blood test Christensen had requested I would have spend ~$800 and no surgery would have been performed. They kept my $200 surgery deposit. So I was out $500 for the trouble, but could have easily been $1000 if I had agreed to the test. My total bill from the new vet was a little over $1000 & included everything. Needless to say I'm going to be taking all my animals to the new vet. If you are considering Christensen Animal Hospital you will absolutely get quality care for your animals, but expect to always leave with a large bill.

Cory is extremely mood dependent and can be super nice or super rude. Nicole is just rude. Nicole let us know they fired Mella, one of our favorite staff along with Lindsay. Also, not sure why Nicole violated the rules by telling me but it felt unprofessional. Expect attitude and brusqueness. Booking Appointments: Normal. Phone calls and you can book online now. Book weeks in advance unless you fight the phone lines for cancellations at 7:30am. Fairly normal for a Vet practice. You can often get lucky if persistent but you must call multiple times until you get through. They have an app that is very helpful and I recommend downloading. Also they do a great job sending reminders and confirming appointments. Location: Off a main street (Skokie Blvd) and Main street. Good location. Nice building. Always clean. Smells nice. They have dedicated parking spaces. Waiting room has ample chairs and space. Cost: General visits for a dog cost me 700-800 with shots. That's crazy!! No sickness. Shots and a check up. So that's insane. They charged me about 4k last summer for what turned out to be allergies treated with cytopoint and a mange pill. Expect estimates to exceed their high cost. Vet tech appointments for fluids are easy and cost effective. Experiences: I went here the first time in 2007/8 and did a vet check and flea check. The doctor said no fleas. Turns out there were fleas and had to deal with more issues and a different vet. I stopped going. After about 12 years I gave them another chance as my previous vet moved. Incidents I've had over the last few years: Told by Dr. Miz my dog Barbara's labs weren't exciting and she was fine. Kept telling him she was lethargic and sick and wasn't herself. Even the staff knew she wasn't herself. He didn't think it was a big deal and I was exaggerating. She was diagnosed with late stage pancreatic cancer the next week by another vet and went immediately into emergency treatment and crossed the rainbow bridge. She suffered for a week due to his misdiagnosis. Exact words on file were "Labs not exciting" Next, took them over six months to diagnose my older dog with senior mange and put him through months of expensive treatments when he needed a pill. It was horrific seeing his hair and face bubble and lose skin. Turns out his chronic kidney disease they were treating him for made hm susceptible. When I adopted a dog from Orphans of The Storm, they did her spay. She came out a completely different dog who couldn't pee the same. I was told by others in the Vet community they do cheaper spays and less anesthesia foe the rescues. What's good? Dr. Stewart is an absolute gem. She is the only reason I kept going after my traumatic experience losing Barbara. Dr. Zoe seems great as well. Dr. Miz....I don't know what to think. Part of me wants to like him because while my first experiences were so awful the lat time I saw him was really kind. He's the owner and he does have a kind face and demeanor. Dr. Zoe is wonderful and a great addition. Seriously great attitude. Bottom line: Roll the dice. You might get lucky for a while if your pet has no issues. If you're pet is sick, well, it's really hit or miss. I am leaving this because thank goodness I've moved states and no longer rely on them for Dante. Dr. Miz, since I know you read this: My advice? Train the staff to just have kindness. You have some awesome people and your vets are great. But we can't get them if your staff makes it uncomfortable to make an appointment or call in. Customer service is really starting to lack and that was never the case before. I really appreciate you for the last time I saw you and felt you were kind. As the owner, maybe you don't know some of this. I would love to have left a better review but I couldn't in good conscious. I hope it does improve because I do believe you love animals and do care and so Dr. Stewart and Dr. Zoe.

In December, our Vet noticed Bodhi needed another teeth cleaning. I didn't want him to receive anesthesia again so soon, especially because his breed is sensitive. I found Becker Animal on an internet search for non-anesthesia dental cleanings; they were highly rated. The ratings are spot on! It was a wonderful experience. Our dog had a temperament evaluation with a vet at Becker first. After, he was able to have a full teeth cleaning without anesthesia. The total cost was $305. Bodhi was wrapped in a blanket and his teeth were cleaned in the technicians lap. It only took about 30 minutes. The treatment included cold laser on his gums to help with swelling and a post-treatment consultation to review his dental hygiene, findings, and optional dental products. We left with a goodie bag including a dental chew, toothpaste and a toothbrush. Before and after pics and Bodhi in goggles for laser treatment. Yes, they even take pictures for you! I had just washed my hands and went to the front desk to use the hand sanitizer, when the device malfunctioned. It was a simple issue. The nozzle did not function properly and when I used the pump, it shot a massive stream of alcohol mix into my eyes and face and completely down the front of my jacket and pants. The girl at the front desk was quite alarmed to see this happen to me and seemed very uncomfortable with the situation. I asked her for a tissue. She had to get some, so I looked elsewhere to get a wipe to get the mix off of my face and out of my eyes. It was soaking wet and I took photos to show how much covered me. I asked for the manager who apparently is the person who responds to these messages. "Cindy." She did not identify herself by name and was very aggressive. I could see that it was going to be one of those uncomfortable conversations. I calmly and firmly told her what had happened and showed her the massive 4 foot stream of alcohol up and down my clothing and where it had been in my face. She literally said it was working fine and pumped it out. I told her that I had cleaned the head of the device. Cindy was clearly not listening to my concern as I stood there covered in this mess. She was oblivious. She refused to listen or take any responsibility. It was going nowhere with this "manager" who was doing everything in her power to negate this messy incident. I simply told her that if this stain on the jacket did not come out, that I would be sending the bill to them ASAP. Cindy's response was very aggressive and she literally walked into my space and said: "calm down sir", then asked me to leave. I have enough life experience to recognize a passive aggressive individual who was clearly attempting to escalate the situation and ignore what had just occurred. I had to back away from her because she was within 2 feet or closer of me. She was VERY AGGRESSIVE. I stated that I would file a police report if necessary and that I would send the veterinarian business the bill. I am expecting nothing from this business and intend to file a complaint with the state board. If there is any further issue medically from the flying alcohol that hit my face and eyes, I will include that as well. This is exactly how not to treat people and Cindy was unqualified and ill-mannered in the delicate balance of dealing with simply business and life situations. I was never aggressive towards any of the staff and it was Cindy alone who escalated the situation from the start. I left the building realizing how unstable and dangerous her behavior was. She apparently blames others and attempts to turn responsibility on them for what she is incapable of handling. I simply told her that I would send the bill to them in a calm tone and she went into, "it never happened and you need to calm down mode." before the aggressive physical advance. Apparently she has little life experience to walk so close to someone she is telling to calm down. It is absolutely contrary to what is right. It was she that escalated this. I will file my state board complaint and move on. To those reading this; find another veterinarian business who has staff that are not aggressive and well versed in manners. Thank you. Peace
