I don't think Northrup is a perfect school but I think it's good enough for many kids to attend to this school. Am currently a 6th grade about to be in 7th and low-key it was the best school year, my other years were great but this year HANDS DOWN. I think all the teachers there are cool but my favorite teachers are Mrs. Delamater and Mrs. Mendoza. All of those one star reviews are NOT TRUE they are just being dramatic from the past but the only thing that's true is that there is lots of playground drama and sometimes the teachers can be a little over dramatic. The food is Nice but sometimes not great, one thing I hate them from doing is removing chocolate milk from our school like Who the heck does that an they be buying low-fat stuff for use, like is you pretending like we don't need fat in our system. Over-all I think THIS SCHOOL IS THE BEST LIKE IT'S AMAZING TRUST ME but if not this school go to Marguerita elementary its a good school to. BUT NOT BETTER THAN OURS SEND UR KID TO THIS SCHOOL. Very Concerned Parent Here. I usually don't leave public reviews for schools, but after MONTHS of watching what's going on at Northrup Elementary, I simply can't stay silent anymore. Let me begin by saying: I care deeply about my child's education. That's why I'm shocked -- and honestly appalled -- at the lack of structure, communication, and basic professionalism happening here. First of all, the front office? A disaster. I called to report my daughter's absence and got transferred three times -- just to be told, "We already marked her absent." Wow, thank you so much for that stellar customer service. Second: the pickup line. If you know, you know. It's pure chaos. No cones. No staff direction. Just cars cutting each other off while fifth graders dodge traffic like it's Frogger. I guess safety isn't a priority?? Third -- and this one really makes my blood boil -- my child came home last week saying they "ran out of milk" at lunch. Excuse me? How do you "run out" of milk at an elementary school? This isn't a food truck. There are literally 300 growing children who need calcium, and y'all can't stock a fridge? Don't even get me started on the playground drama. The teachers barely supervise recess, and somehow my daughter got "accidentally" pushed twice in one week. I've emailed. I've messaged on ParentSquare. Radio silence. If no one responds again, I will be showing up in person -- and I'm not bringing Starbucks this time. Look, I'm not trying to be that mom, but Northrup seriously needs to reevaluate its priorities. School was bad, only Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Tovar, and all the chinsese teachers are good. Mrs. Ortiz and Ms. Wei are the BEST, love them. Also this is my second time writing. update: i am an 8th grader attending the school and we literally brought the school's success because tell me we are literally the only good class in the school. we actually act our age, NOT CLOGGING TOILETS, HAVING ACTUAL HUMAN DECENCY AND RESPECT?? NORTHRUP IS HORRIBLE DO NOT GO THERE. as stated, they legitimately only care about the little babies, they actually treat us like guinea pigs because we get all the trash. we actually get all of the horrible experiences. i can't recall a single good thing the school has done for us. opening the restrooms? THAT IS THE BARE MINIMUM. THAT'S NOT EVEN THE BARE MINIMUM, THAT IS THE LAW. there was one instance where the dodgers came to the school and we were out on the concrete floor, our butts actually burning since it was SUMMER, 90 DEGREES, and the dodgers didn't even show up! they were only there for, again, the little weeny children! wow, how jolly this school is! they supposedly renovated the auditorium for over 2 years and when they finally finished, it wasn't any better. only difference? fancy lighting. yes, AC was probably added, but that DOESN'T TAKE 2 YEARS OF SUFFERING. what else is there about this trashy school? they promise us one thing, then never do it. actions speak louder than words, this is where that saying is VERY VERY true. northrup's motto is R.I.S.E which means respecting individuals, self, and environment. oh how very creative of them, they want all of us gladiators to rise! they encourage us to rise yet the school's funds are doing the exact opposite for funding the little children instead of the older ones. they have gotten so many field trips and you know what we got? you know what the 8th graders got? 2 field trips to alhambra high school and we get to walk there! no bus! oh, what a luxury it is to be the closest to alhambra high school! this broke school gets to save money and instead make us work out our tired legs and burn us out! oh no, i know what they spent money on. cameras! they have installed cameras and speakers all around campus, including functioning clocks in every single classroom. now those took 2 weeks or more as i recall. the auditorium, however, took over 2 years. hmmmm. another dumb thing the school did was that they restricted us from being in the L building's hallways because of a couple making out there. and some other random instances involving very little people but according to the school's logic, block everyone from entering the halls ever! back in 7th grade, me and my friends found entertainment in a WINDOW. the school is so boring that we had fun with a window. and we can't even do that now because that was a classroom window in the hallway. another ageist thing the school does? restrict the middle schoolers from going to the playground in hopes that we can find something entertaining to do when they know that the only entertaining thing nowadays with these kids are their cellular devices. what else has the school done? the grass field is occasionally very filled with trash. not very R.I.S.E of them. sorry for the rant guys!! im speaking from personal experience so it's genuinely very bad!! i just know i have trauma from this school and whenever it's mentioned i will suffer from insane ptsd. that's the case for my 7th grade classroom in which the school hired the worst teacher to exist. im not going to drop any names because im an excellent gladiator, one that always rises! whenever i walk by that classroom i start getting flashbacks from my 7th grade years and im unable to breathe. anyway! read more

BEST SCHOOL IN THE ALHAMBRA DISTRICT! Students here are very friendly and respectful. It's very easy to make friends here; not to mention, they're amazing at sports ESPECIALLY in drill and the girls basketball team... speechless. The teachers care for students deeply shoutout to Ms. Carr, Mr. Vi, Mrs. Ruben, Mrs. Greep, Mrs. Mendoza and, Mrs. Giberti they are the best! I went to Northrup in 1738 for K-8 and loved it here MRS. COLEMAN SU IS THE QUEEN OF NORTHRUP she was such an amazing principal so upset she left but she truly was amazing loved her! This school is great EXCEPT the ladies in the office.. Ms Amanda is honestly abusive towards these kids. She gave my daughter a panic attack before school and then laughed, when I called her out on it. My nephew goes to this school and his very first day he was bullied. Since then he has been bullied everyday. My sister has pulled him out of school because she cannot take it anymore. No child should fear for their lives because kids are saying they will "beat him up". He shouldn't have to cry everyday after school. The principle keeps giving the runaround and forgets to book meetings. The teacher apparently was unaware of bullying and even blamed him even after they poured juice on him in class. This is unacceptable. It is so sad that kids are being bullied and no one is doing anything about it. It makes me so sad because there are more and more young kids on the news committing suicide for bullying and I fear that it's the politics involved in school districts that they refuse to care and take action. Yes the school year is almost over and yes he will go to another but that doesn't mean the fight is going to stop. Please contact the Alhambra school district. Things need to change before we lose more young lives to bullying. read more

The staff here are rude especially the ladies in the office gosh are they getting old and cranky. Also the staff outside are letting the kids fight with each other really rough saying bad words to one another. The staff don't say nothing they are not doing their job to keep these kids safe, so disappointed!! Took out my child form this school. read more

I don't know what to say about this school. Some staff can be rude depending on the day you go there and talk to them. My other complaint would be the parking. Its a closed campus so parents cant really go inside the campus. I walk my kid to the front gate all the time until summer school started last week. I was parking at the small plaza by the school for like 3-5 mins and I leave. Now you cant park there, but you have to utilize their "valet zone" in front of the school. First of all, its dangerous to be dropping off your kid because of all the cars (its on a big street, not residential quiet area). Secondly, I would like to make sure my kid go inside safely. The school wants you to keep your car moving. I dropped off my kid at the beginning of the "valet zone" (it was a walk for my kid), and I was just trying to wait until he goes inside the gate and I know hes okay and safe, but the staff yelled out "keep moving... you gotta go..." Omg, if something happen to my kid (he gets kidnapped etc), the school will be responsible of it. They have hundreds of parents dropping off their kid/kids in the morning, and they expect their "valet zone" (that can fit probably7 cars..they save the other side of valet for the school bus) would be sufficient enough. It creates stress to the parents and the kids in the morning. Its ridiculous. Theres no parking at all for parents to drop off their kids safely. Also, the staff sometimes don't even know the school policy or whats going on. They can be irresponsible too, so if you tell them to please do so and so, make sure you call them in 30 mins to follow up. Overall, they need to do something with their parking situation if they want their students to have a stress free day. Its really not convenient for everyone, its clearly dangerous, and they are not doing anything about it for years and years. read more
