Love the school, the academics and there's always someone available to talk to in the office, which is not the case in most public schools.

I've attended basketball games here, and the main gym is nice. My kids enjoyed playing in the baseball fields up front.

Asistnt principals a bitch this happen 3 years ago! I got beat up and I told her I can't go to…read moreschool if im scared and she was like I guarantee they won't beat me up! Guess what happend! They got their whole gang and beat me up and left me a bruise on my hip! (The asisnt principal deadass can't even walk!) The district office was also a bitch because they were trying to brush off the situation as if nothing happend! Fuck the asisnt principal and fuck the superintendent! I was so glad when I entered highschool and never met those people agian.

Don't get be wrong, I'm not trying to be bias just because I went to school here, but because I been to a lot of the other middle schools, none of them have as safe of a campus as well as the amount of great staff that actually cares about students well being. I have been visiting many schools the past ten years, from volunteering to just pure visiting, and if you're thinking between Garvey Intermediate, Temple, Ynez, and all the other schools, please put Garvey as your consideration! Because trust me, your kid won't miss a thing. Best of all, there are many electives kids can choose from. From arts to choir, from band to yearbook and journalism. Why go private at New Ave school when you can save a bunch of money trying out a public middle school? From a lot of my friends that went to private schools they claim that private didn't teach them anything, but was just more enforced on the dress codes and rules. Not saying it's bad to go to private or anything but think of all the money you save!

I have been in many art classes at the school such as, Ceramics, Drawing and Painting, also AP Art. I also have participated in Drama Club and happened to be the club president in my senior year. I am someone who was into music as well. However, in terms of choir classes...I've noticed during my time at the school, many students in the choir are pretty pretentious I felt. Which in turn, caused me not to join. With how the school is structure-wise, I'm not really mad at it. It's more so the actual students I've come across and how the faculty deal with issues particularly regarding mental health. I wasn't really a "popular" kid, but wasn't that much of an outcast either. I was somewhere in between. When it came to the people I was hanging out with on a daily basis, we were doing things that normally people do in high school. Chill, hang out, and joke around. If I'm being honest, in high school, I was someone who had mental issues especially with suicidal ideations. Due to issues I had outside of high school at the time. Thankfully I'm not there mentally anymore. However, I didn't really have much support outside of my friends at the time. It felt hard to talk to somebody, but one day I brought it up to my counselor... Well after I did, it made things a lot worse. Essentially it separated me from my family, and I felt alienated from the students when I told them the issues I had at the time. A particular friend I had who I considered to be my best friend, I confided in her and I was basically shamed for it. The next day, she never spoke to me again after that. I had another friend, who actually was trying to get to the bottom root of the issue and I dismissed her which I still feel bad for. There was another person who I thought was a friend, but actually secretly did not like me. She was someone known to start drama. After these events happened, I was alienated from my main circle and others. Felt embarrassed during graduation day and overall I have mainly known people who are really deep down fake. Well, it's expected from a place like California. I was happy to leave considering I didn't have to see or talk to most of the people I knew there ever again. However, it feels bittersweet because while I don't want anything to do with this school or the memories associated...it feels tough to know that looking back I didn't have a good experience. Doesn't mean the school itself is horrible, it's the social life that came with it and how I was treated that did not feel good.

I was also severely depressed and 5150'd multiple times via the school, but they never put me on an IEP and I eventually dropped out during the covid pandemic. They don't care about students here.
