I have been in many art classes at the school such as, Ceramics, Drawing and Painting, also AP Art. I also have participated in Drama Club and happened to be the club president in my senior year. I am someone who was into music as well. However, in terms of choir classes...I've noticed during my time at the school, many students in the choir are pretty pretentious I felt. Which in turn, caused me not to join. With how the school is structure-wise, I'm not really mad at it. It's more so the actual students I've come across and how the faculty deal with issues particularly regarding mental health. I wasn't really a "popular" kid, but wasn't that much of an outcast either. I was somewhere in between. When it came to the people I was hanging out with on a daily basis, we were doing things that normally people do in high school. Chill, hang out, and joke around. If I'm being honest, in high school, I was someone who had mental issues especially with suicidal ideations. Due to issues I had outside of high school at the time. Thankfully I'm not there mentally anymore. However, I didn't really have much support outside of my friends at the time. It felt hard to talk to somebody, but one day I brought it up to my counselor... Well after I did, it made things a lot worse. Essentially it separated me from my family, and I felt alienated from the students when I told them the issues I had at the time. A particular friend I had who I considered to be my best friend, I confided in her and I was basically shamed for it. The next day, she never spoke to me again after that. I had another friend, who actually was trying to get to the bottom root of the issue and I dismissed her which I still feel bad for. There was another person who I thought was a friend, but actually secretly did not like me. She was someone known to start drama. After these events happened, I was alienated from my main circle and others. Felt embarrassed during graduation day and overall I have mainly known people who are really deep down fake. Well, it's expected from a place like California. I was happy to leave considering I didn't have to see or talk to most of the people I knew there ever again. However, it feels bittersweet because while I don't want anything to do with this school or the memories associated...it feels tough to know that looking back I didn't have a good experience. Doesn't mean the school itself is horrible, it's the social life that came with it and how I was treated that did not feel good.

I like to come super early so I'm not stuck as one of the cars outside on the street trying to pick up their kid. I do not miss high school at all. But this is honestly one of the cleanest high schools I've ever been to. Even while in class, the classrooms were always so clean and everything was updated and new. The staff and professors here are awesome. Shout out to Gayle for still being one of my favorite professors!

The students and parents are extremely dedicated to education at San Marino, which in turn attracts some of the best teachers and students to come join this community. San Marino, itself, of course, is a very special community as well, and that further influenced the high school and its population here. I, for one, would certainly wholeheartedly send my children to San Marino High School over any other private school for the educational rigor and teacher quality that it offers. Perhaps I am very biased due to my fond memories of growing up here, but it is after all a wonderful school as well!

I'm Mexican and my kids are taking mandarin at the school, so eventually they will be trilingual. I'm sure in other predominately Hispanic communities they offer Spanish. Driving up the foothills in the shadow of the recent bobcat fire, I wondered how safe is the air…read morequality and where is Alverno? Then it appeared two massive iron-rod gate doors which lead to the grounds of this majestic campus. It's what I would assume the mansion of great expectations once was. There are strawberry and oaks trees for acres and a linear koi lily pond. So here the history lesson: it was once a mansion which consumed hundred of acres of land. As time marched on, as it does hundreds of plots of this plantation-Spanish styled looking mansion were sold-off. Creating the adjacent neighborhood of Sierra Madre. Including, a large plot to this now existing school, Alverno. The mansion is host to the girls drama classes and plays: Bravo! I can't speak to the school or the educational quality but as a shooting location it's Ethereal. Such a delight and an endless time capsule of history. The city of Sierra Madre was wonderful and welcoming. And this feature film we are shooting which I can't say much abt, truly will be the stuff of legends.

They never let the parents know they were in financial trouble. that was wrong and I don't think the whole story because the new principal now says at public meetings she is going after much younger students because that is where the money is. It's sad when a school has to focus on the their heads giant salaries and not the students once the Covid funding stops. On the plus side it's a very cheap school Unfortunately they have a lot of interest in holding weddings (almost every weekend) and filming (even during school hours) on the campus. I wouldn't want my kids around strangers when they should be getting educated. My nieces enjoyed a good high school 30 years ago. My grandnieces and nephews have not at the new Alverno. Their parents pulled all three kids out. They felt the education was lacking compared to other schools. And are now enrolled in and very happy. The staff seems ill equipped. Some teachers are nice others seem very disgruntled. they really don't seem happy to teach there. It comes across to the children. some teachers are just there because the kids are getting discounted tuition and that doesn't make them qualified either. There is a mentality between those who have which are a lot against those students who have less. So much for Christian teaching The new Alverno is not the school that it use to be. The school require the kids to enroll in a sport so they can claim they have a big sports program. More fees. I find it misleading especially upsetting for kids who have no interest in their team sport but would rather compete in something more individual or that the school doesn't have (like gymnastics). Or in participate in the arts. Every time one turns around there's a fee for something (Jagothon,field trips, fundraiser in school hot dog lunches) so the school isn't as inexpensive as initially thought. They constantly want money for some sport courts. They have lot's of land but lack the accoutrements a proper school like a gym with showers, an updated cafeteria, a proper theater, etc. Their hand is out throughout the year. This makes the tuition more expensive in the long run. They really should have skipped allowing the new lower school to come in and worked on improving the high school. It ruined the campus

Now that we are here, I can say it is a very good school, but it is not perfect. The teachers are very knowledgeable and most of them really care about helping students. My son has found a few teachers he really connects with, which makes a big difference. The campus is clean and safe, and the students are serious about school but not boring. They also have a lot of activities like sports, theater, and clubs, which I like because it keeps the kids balanced. At the same time, I feel like Prep expects the students to manage everything by themselves. If your child is already very outgoing and knows what they want, it is a great place. But if your child is quieter, or needs more help finding their way, it can feel overwhelming. Sometimes I wish the school checked in more instead of just assuming the kids will ask for help if they need it. Also, socially it is a little tricky. Most students are friendly on the surface, but real friendships are hard to build if you are not already part of a group. It can be lonely sometimes, especially for new students. Overall, I am still very happy my son is at Prep, but it took longer to feel comfortable than I expected. You really have to be your child's advocate and make sure they speak up and find their place.

This disorder impacts my social communication and interaction. I'm still surprised that none of the "trained" officials didn't acknowledge my disability, except the counselor, who just dismissed me. In this review, I'll be reviewing my 5th and 6th grade teachers. The 5th grade teachers were one of the worst teachers I met. Always sassy all the time, and loud. That combined with my disorder made it one of the worst. But that's nothing compared to the 6th grade teachers. I had Ms. Felix as my 6th grade teacher. She acts like that one parent, she always gives to me (as in she gives food for my diet), but she never actually cared for me. I'm sure she only gives her snacks because if she didn't, she'd she responsible for my starvation, not because of the lie she tells me, like "I only gave you these because I love you." Come on, you don't actually mean that. She also tried to force me into depression, saying things like "You are not a Bitely Bear." or embarrassing me in front of the class. Her words and actions still impact me to this day, and I will never forget them. Also, she gives me too much to work on, where I thought of suicide many times, but she says she doesnt want me to die. The counselor was the worst counselor in the world. She knows that I have autism, but she didn't actually try to make me calm. She's part of the reason I thought of suicide multiple times. Her actions are like mopping the floor when the bathtub is overflowing. She doesn't try to support me, she just sends me to a mental hospital to try to "fix" me. As you might have expected, that didn't work. It never worked. My experience at this school heavily impacted my emotional, sociological, and psychological health. I've been less comfortable to talk to counselors after, and I've isolated myself from even more people. I wish I stayed at home, or a school that really understood my disorder. For Parents: Don't send your kids to this school if you don't want your kids to be impacted emotionally and psychologically. Their mascot is an oxymoron, the bear is happy, while the students are not. When I grow up, I will never send my kids here ever.
