The Hillside Waterfront Hotel is not really an hotel. More like a poorly run Airbnb'? The basic functions of even the most modest hotel are conspicuously absent. At check in there was no one there to greet us, answer questions, help us orient to the area or even help us with our luggage. When we reached out for help via their phone number they were unresponsive for an entire day and when we followed up at the end of day our host chose this moment to make it clear she had more important things to do than respond to guest questions. Perhaps this kind of attitude is typical of Ephraim, Wisconsin? Other things to know: We booked a suite which turned out not to be a suite. Any seasoned traveler will know the difference. They told us they were in very high demand at the height of the fall season but the hotel was empty but for one older couple. Makes sense now. Talking of that couple we only noticed them because the lady nearly fell down the stairs backwards as she struggled upstairs with her bags. Only hosts who don't care about their guests would allow that possibility. The plumbing is terrible. The sink didn't drain properly and the toilet blocked on first use (Not our fault! We know how to care for older plumbing) and of course there was no one on hand to help us The house smells of mold. Old houses sometimes do, but it this is especially bad. Our room was infested with biting bugs! In conclusion, Door County is a stunning area and not to be missed. The same cannot be said for the Hillside Waterfront 'Hotel'.

A basic continental breakfast is offered in the lobby every morning with coffee and tea available throughout the day. This family run resort is a family favorite for a reason! There was another king bedroom that was lofted and both have their own en suite bathrooms with a fabulous shower, set up, with a regular head, range, showerhead, and three body sprays. There was an issue one night, where there was a constant clicking, and being a musician. I measured it with my metronome, it clicked 42 time per minute. The manager and this person went on the roof themselves to try to discover the problem, along with her HVAC service, and found the issue, comping us one entire day. We will definitely try to stay at the same resort on our next trip, and will try to book far enough in advance to get the penthouse suites!

It ended up being not as easy/close as the map looked when we got here, it's at the top of the hill at the end of town. But still it was very close.  Check in was a breeze and the front desk was very warm and friendly. The first thing we noticed was it was very quiet and very clean. Our room had a bit of a strange layout but was clean, comfortable and large, it also had a hot tub. It really was a wonderful place to stay, we had no issues and there was always plenty of parking. It seems very well kept and updated. We would not hesitate to stay here again in the future.

A wait that long is a bit much, but Door County is super popular in the summer, and we used the time to walk around the marina and explore the area. Their wood-fired pizzas are $23 for a small and $27 for a large. We ordered takeout, and our food was ready right on time after about an hour. The pizza was great, and I would definitely go back next time I'm in Door County. There's also free street parking nearby, which makes stopping in even easier. Just remember to go early if visiting in the summer to avoid long wait times!

Getting a good wedding photographer can be really stressful, but these two put my now husband and I at ease right from the beginning. We found their site after a quick search of Door County photographers (there's more than you'd think!) and we saw true talent. Now, our aesthetic is a little different than the typical DC vibe: rather than bright and beachy, we were looking for a dark, romantic forest-feel. We saw a lot of styles represented in their portfolio so we contacted them. We knew within minutes these were the folks for us; they even helped us narrow in on the chapel that we later ended up using! Another huge milestone crossed off the list. Over a year later, we had one engagement session and our wedding taken care of. I still get compliments on our engagement set and have had some of the images re-posted by jewelry enchantress Pamela Love and Loho Bride. As I write this review I've seen a few sneak peeks of our wedding images (the editing process is extensive) but from what I have seen, I am THRILLED. It has been a couple weeks since we enjoyed a concert over the Labor Day weekend in Door County,…read moreWI. The concert series we enjoyed was held at an amazing venue, The Clearing. The pieces we enjoyed this wonderful afternoon were: Suite in G Minor, Op. 71 - Moritz Moszkowski, Trio on Chassidic Melodies by Paul Schoenfield, and Piano Quartet in C Minor, Op. 13 by Richard Strauss. The middle piece by Paul Schoenfield, was particularly enjoyable as it is in a unique and lively style which compliments the more traditional chamber music we usually hear. The Moszkowski piece was also very moving and awe inspiring, while Richard Strauss was the perfect way to end this concert, leaving us mystified by the talent of the musicians. The people of Midsummer's Music, from administrative staff, to the organizing vision of Jim Birkenstock, to the myriad gifted yet humble musicians, is what makes this series so special. We can often find concerts held in magnificent venues, from concert halls to library auditoriums, but seldom can you chat with the musicians to learn what inspires them to produce such beautiful music! Come to Door County, Wisconsin. Enjoy the nature, the restaurants, the galleries and the people. Come to Door County to take in some equally breath taking music!
