I started bringing my car to Monro in Hudson after a friend couldn't stop raving about how well…read morethey take care of her car. Now I get it. After seeing their work firsthand, I trust them completely. Bill and Ian are fantastic. They are respectful and easy to work with. Recently, after an oil change, coolant flush and an engine mount replacement, I drove for about three hours and could feel the difference. That kind of result says a lot. I live about two and a half hours away, but I now make the trip to Hudson for oil changes and any other work without hesitation. Their prices are right in line with other shops in the area, but what you get in return is peace of mind, excellent service and honest time estimates. For me, that combination is absolutely worth the drive.

I did as requested and returned a second time to have the auto emissions redone. I was told there was no one available to do the test that day, but I could make an appointment for the next day. It is important to note here, that my car was fully seen from the appointment desk. When I returned for the appointment, I was told by the person at the front desk that my car would not pass the emissions exam because my back windows were tinted. I don't appreciate being lied to and having my time wasted. To be lied about what I actually needed to pass NY state auto emissions, and then to not be told when I had returned afterwards and booked an appointment. What is wrong with these people? If they don't know the rules of the emissions exam, what else don't they know? Do not trust these people with your Vehicle.

Don't go to Matt's Automotive in Greenport/Hudson behind Bagel Tyme…read more In another review, you can find a report on Matt Cohn's refusal to take responsibility for putting defective parts on my car on 8/30/25, but now I want to report on the brake job he did on my car that endangered the lives of others and me: While routinely servicing my car, my regular mechanic called my attention to the fact that the brake lines were rubbing on the axles, causing them to wear and eventually break. Because he said it was too dangerous to drive the car, I had to rent a car and pay my mechanic to properly install the brake lines. Because Matt had refused to reimburse me for the tow, I took my case to court and received a judgement in my favor. Matt did not deign to show up for the court hearing, and he does not accept responsibility for anything he does, including doing such shoddy work that lives are endangered. He has not responded to the hearing and paid for his mistakes.

On August 30, having just purchased…read morenew brakes from Matt's Automotive in Hudson the day before, I was driving and my car started making weird noises. Then it started slowing down and chugging as if the brakes were grabbing. I managed to get home to Ghent from Chatham before it stopped moving entirely. I called Matt and he recommended a tow truck business that charged me $150 from my house to Greenport, less than 12 miles if you don't go the long way around, which he did. Matt's employer told me the clips were defective and that they had ordered new ones and had them before my car got to the garage. Since then, Matt has been messing with me. First, he said he wasn't responsible, and when I asked him who was, he wouldn't tell me where he had purchased the clips from, but said he'd "call her" and get back to me, which he did not. When I called him, he said that the company didn't take responsibility for defective parts and he'd give me some discounts along the way, which would have been a long way because I usually only go there for tires, and I had just purchased $800 worth from him. Long story shorter than it could be, after putting me off many times, he finally said he'd reimburse me if I gave him the receipt for the tow. I left a copy of it after hours in his slot for him and he claimed he never saw it. Then, today, 5 months later, I took him another copy of the receipt, and he said that it was supposed to have been taken care of, that the Auto Zone nearby was supposed to have sent me a check, and I should go there, which I did. They said they didn't know what I was talking about, and they don't sell those clips to him, so I went back, and then he said the manager I had talked to had told him that she was looking into it. The manager at Auto Zone had acted like she had never heard anything about it. Five months and still no refund!

My muffler had separated from the pipe and was making a lot of noise. I stopped in for an estimate. I was told that they would have a technician look at it in a few minutes. After a half hour nothing had been done so I asked how much longer it would be, and at that point the guy behind the desk went out to the service area and had somebody put the car up on a lift and check it out. The technician confirmed what I already knew, took the car off the lift and provided some paperwork to the front desk. 15 minutes went by and then someone brought in my keys to the desk and asked where they belonged. The guy behind the desk had a puzzled look. I said "those are my keys" and it looked as though a bell went off in the front desk guy's head because he remarked "oh, and I have the papers right here." A few minutes later, he gave me the estimate. After a quick look, I exclaimed out loud so that the other customers could hear me "I can't believe it. Your estimate is higher than I got from the Subaru dealer!". The response was "what dealer"? I said, "what difference does it make?" I've never had a dealer's price lower than that of a retail automotive repair shop. And in this case, the dealer was also going to pick up the car at my home and then drop it off when the job was complete. Midas: Shame on you!
