It's an artificial turf field, which can be tough on the skin when it comes to sliding, but it's a pretty nice field. It's well-marked and has soccer and lacrosse goals for use. The disc golf course is pretty fun as well - the majority of it is wooded, but there are a few more open holes as well. It's decently marked, so it's not too confusing to follow. Parking usually isn't an issue, but since it is right next to the high school, trying to find your way around can be a bit confusing.

That's the downside. The upside is that the rest of the park is well-kept and spacious for what it is. Lots of parking, and there are 8 tennis courts! And a large field (looks like it's primarily used for baseball and volleyball), plus built in bleachers for spectating. A little path through a wooded area leads you to the Vietnam Veterans memorial and spills into the Johnston Center parking lot (where you'll find an aquatic facility and more).

I run through this park when I'm on the Ellerbe Creek Trail and sometimes stop to grab a drink from the water fountains. Rock Quarry Park has athletic fields, greenway access, lights, picnic facilities, play grounds, restrooms, soccer fields, tennis courts, water fountains, and a youth baseball field. If you enter and following the parking lot straight down, you'll see a trail entrance. This trail (sometimes with use of sidewalks) leads to the Vietnam Veterans Living Memorial, Edison Johnson Recreation Center, Museum of Life and Science, and joins up with the Ellerbe Creek Trail. Do take note that the park is referred to as "Rock Quarry Park at Edison Johnson Recreation", the two kind of spill into one another. The ACTUAL park has the athletic fields, bathrooms and tennis courts, while the Recreation Center has everything else (even a pool and a splash pad!) And of course the Vietnam Veterans Living Memorial is located in the middle, on the path that connects the park to the recreation center. You will find people "hanging out" in their cars in the parking lot, like at most Durham Parks, but they've never bothered me. Overall, this is a great park for field activities, tennis and runners. I definitely pay it my park dues!

The Community Center is very well kept and modern. It also features a Teen Zone for teens 13-17. They have activity rooms, a video game room, gym and indoor basketball court. We attended the Teen Hang Out event Friday night and the staff was excellent. Everyone was very welcoming and engaged very well with the teens. My daughter enjoys basketball so she spent a lot of time in the gym doing a small tournament and in the video game room. I appreciate how Raleigh Parks Dept invests in their parks and rec centers. I just wish they had Teen Zones in NorthWest Raleigh. We have to drive 25 minutes in traffic to visit teen zones like Saint Monica, Green Road and Tarboro. It would be fair if Brier Creek or Millbrook had a Teen Zone. Teenagers need a safe space where they can gather and feel supported and appreciated.

Both teams had uniforms, there were a lot of fans, some folks had cookout stuff and folding chairs. It looked quite exciting! Other than that ball game going on, the park has a large picnic shelter located next to the volleyball and tennis courts. There is a concrete-surface basketball court, four lighted tennis courts and two lighted sand volleyball courts. There are two baseball fields (the larger one is 350 feet to the fence!) and a woodchip-surface playground for ages 5 to 12. The parking lot includes a pair of basketball hoops as well. LED lighting along the path leading to the stadium and aesthetic landscaping throughout. The artificial turf in the stadium includes synthetic "dirt" and "sand". The stadium also includes a patio on the upper level with a dozen or so umbrella tables. Restrooms include changing stations and plenty of stalls. Overall, a great location for multiple sports.

I came here for a Holly Springs Salamander's Baseball game on a beautiful 80 degree day in June…read more Not originally a baseball fan, I was skeptical. However, the stadium is quaint, new, and clean. The absolute best part for me was the shaded seating and ceiling fans. For those sun enthusiasts, there is a tiny section left unshaded. They have a big screen that introduces all the home players, AstroTurf grass, wooden bats, and the stadium is well lit when the sun goes down. The mascot Sal the Salamander is a delight; great with the kids and fun to watch. Concessions are adequate for the size of the clientele and they offer the basics of hot dogs, beer, ice cream, and more. The parking was convenient. The lot was large and a short distance from the stadium. If you are in the mood for smaller crowds and a hometown baseball feel, north main athletic complex is a fantastic choice.
