It's not that huge that I think anyone would get lost and it's very wide open. All dogs on the trail while we went were leashed which was great. Pretty nice place for a picnic with large open grounds. No bathrooms or water that I saw but did have it's own parking lot (although small)

I usually don't like paved trails, but beggars choosers sometimes. Definitely great for wheelchairs…read moreand slow walkers. I will say there's enough natural elements to distract from the huge concrete sidewalk extending the entire length of the path, which ends up emptying into a community and another fitness path (has outdoor equipment stops) on one end and a pasture of wild flowers (mostly common milkweed for monarch butterflies) roughly midpoint. At the pasture the trail is definitely NOT paved and rather rough to navigate. If you have problems walking, be cautious, yet try experiencing it in the spring and late summer to catch glimpse of the butterflies and their caterpillars eating away before their chrysalis stage. There's a small parking lot at the beginning of the trail big enough for 20 cars. This includes a couple handicap spots. I've been there twice now on the weekend and I've lucked out to find a few spots open. Once you park DON'T head for the tempting metal bridge. Go in the opposite direction where you'll see the regulations sign. Then you'll know you're in the right spot!

This is a senior center for 55 and older, it is paid by tax payers funds through Orange County NC. Don't be surprise when you arrive , it's run more like a senior daycare. 90% of the population is Asian. if you plan to use any of the equipment good luck, it is over taken. I suggested a number system. At three it is over run by children on equipment, when I addressed this, which are mostly staff related? Don't you have to be 55.? No this a community Center. so bring your children at three go down the stairs and use the equipment. open to all. Good Luck

Program array is extensive beyond expectation, clearly listed for the day (some 25 or more on a daily updated page on the wall as you entered. Friendly accomodating support staff througout. Daily subsidized inexpensive lunches ($1.00 donation for locals). Out of county membership allowed. Program Booklet unparalelled. Preregister where required, some walk in. Physical building is large with handicap access throughout. Many helpful services in addition to activity programs, like taxes, voting etc. Take a program booklet and be astounded and feel welcomed. I lived locally and moved away yet maintaned an active membership.

The bathrooms. They're ALWAYS locked! That's not cool, friends…read more.. You've received your warning up front, lest you be deceived by the two prominent restroom facilities on site. That's the downside. The upside is that the rest of the park is well-kept and spacious for what it is. Lots of parking, and there are 8 tennis courts! And a large field (looks like it's primarily used for baseball and volleyball), plus built in bleachers for spectating. A little path through a wooded area leads you to the Vietnam Veterans memorial and spills into the Johnston Center parking lot (where you'll find an aquatic facility and more).

I'm really not sure what Rock Quarry Park is missing! They host a bunch of public events (Light The…read moreNight Walk and Woofstock are just two events coming up THIS month!) and it's where the military branch based next doors always has their family day. I run through this park when I'm on the Ellerbe Creek Trail and sometimes stop to grab a drink from the water fountains. Rock Quarry Park has athletic fields, greenway access, lights, picnic facilities, play grounds, restrooms, soccer fields, tennis courts, water fountains, and a youth baseball field. If you enter and following the parking lot straight down, you'll see a trail entrance. This trail (sometimes with use of sidewalks) leads to the Vietnam Veterans Living Memorial, Edison Johnson Recreation Center, Museum of Life and Science, and joins up with the Ellerbe Creek Trail. Do take note that the park is referred to as "Rock Quarry Park at Edison Johnson Recreation", the two kind of spill into one another. The ACTUAL park has the athletic fields, bathrooms and tennis courts, while the Recreation Center has everything else (even a pool and a splash pad!) And of course the Vietnam Veterans Living Memorial is located in the middle, on the path that connects the park to the recreation center. You will find people "hanging out" in their cars in the parking lot, like at most Durham Parks, but they've never bothered me. Overall, this is a great park for field activities, tennis and runners. I definitely pay it my park dues!

The Wilson Rec Center is pretty central to campus and has student recreational activities. The pool is in the rear and is the only thing I saw. You can enter in front or rear for the aquatic complex. The building itself looks like "Duke". The brownstones are spectacular. Parking is reserved pretty much all around the building I found the visitors lot which is about a 3/4 mile walk. The area was clean and impeccably maintained. The aquatic complex is not as old as the building dating to possibly turn of the century. However it's no spring chicken either. Possibly built in the late 60's, not ruling out 70's. The pool and deck are maintained. Only faculty, staff and the swim and dive are permitted to use outside of special permission. My son enjoyed the pool. Although not a new pool it has underwent a couple of renovation projects over the decades. The most recent was around 11 years ago. The 25 yard pool with diving well is a nice set up for competition. Duke competes in the ACC Conference. The complex offers a compact spectator area on one side. Most reading this review will never get the opportunity to use the pool and probably never even see it. My son absolutely loved his time on campus and who knows could be a Blue Devil.
