Revolt Productions - Young Husband Studio's - Revolt's location in Kensington

Kensington

Revolt art space is a wonderful, amazing venue located in the suburb of Kensington, which is about…read more10 minutes away from the CBD. When I first came here it was to see one of my favorite bands (Bonjah) play on Australia day 2010. I was blown away. The huge 'factory' is abundant with art. It's visual candy - everywhere. There are separate rooms with couches filled with sculptures and paintings. It has a main stage with with ample room for standing to watch a band or performer. Performers vary from dancers to mimes to comedians to actors. Revolt is open most days - it has a chill atmosphere you can just call in have a coffee and read a book or attend one of the many events which can be found on their website. The staff at Revolt are a family - literally. They took lease of the space in 2009 and have worked hard to make it what it is today. I was lucky enough to volunteer during the 2011 Fringe Festival which was a great experience. I encourage you all to call into Revolt & check it out, if only for the visual experience. You will be amazed at this place & wonder why you have never visited there before. They serve alcohol & have bar food. http://www.revoltproductions.com/home/

Revolt is a secret pirate cave of wonderment. I want to say more, but I don't think I could capture…read morethe excitement of the first time I entered and wandered around the many rooms and spaces that have amassed in this new performing arts centre in Kensington. It's a maze, designed with both performers and audience in mind. The crew make sure you're getting a truly unique experience by either attending or using Revolt to stage your event. What's more (and the bit I think I like the most) is their philosophy of supporting new artists. For someone with a great idea but not a big plan on how to market that idea, this is possibly the place to approach to stage it. It's a bit of a secret, really, tucked down a back street in an unassuming warehouse district, but not one that should stay so.

Noisy Ritual - Taken from Noisy Ritual facebook

Noisy Ritual

Part wine store, part bar, part function space, part DIY wine-making - say whaaaa? Yes that's right…read more- Noisy Ritual is certainly ticking a lot of boxes for a new comer. The three owners of Noisy Ritual come from wine-making backgrounds, and have established one of Melbourne's first Urban Wineries. So how does it work? Buy a membership (an awesome gift, if I do say so myself) and then through a series of workshops you will make your own wine - including stomping the grapes. Just want to drink? You can do that too. The space is warm and intimate despite being so very large - they have done an incredible job to make it feel so cosy. There are limited wines available (with the majority falling under the Noisy Ritual label) as well as a small selection of beers. While I am sure they will offer snacks in the coming months, right now you can order food from Mankoushe to be delivered to your table from up the road. But where I believe Noisy Ritual will really shine is with their functions. The space is just MADE for a wedding reception. Fairy lights, wine barrels and terracotta tiles - it's simply gorgeous.

After waiting and waiting for our wine, we quickly got turned off by the atmosphere as there was a 1st birthday party going on in the back. We did not find the screaming children relaxing or appropriate at all. We continued to wait for our drinks before deciding to eventually cancel our order and ask for a refund. Not sure how soon we'll be interested in giving this place a second chance.

We were greeted with a friendly smile, seated and left with menu's. The drinks menu is just as interesting and extensive as the food menu.. However, that's where the compliments end. After ordering, coffee took 10--15 minutes to get to the table lukewarm. 30 minutes after that, my partner's meal arrived, with no mention of my own. 20+ minutes later (well after my partner was done eating, his plate had been cleared and we'd inquired twice about my dish), my sandwich was delivered. Altogether, breakfast took 90 minutes. In this time, tables that had been seated after us were fed and onto second cups of coffee. Servers had come to sell us more coffee or juice, but never refilled our water or offered us a jug, despite the fact that said jugs were being refilled at the sink next to us and delivered to other tables regularly. We received one apology for the lateness of my meal, but no offer of a discount or complimentary item. The thing is, I get it. I worked as a waitress for six months in 2014, and sometimes the kitchen gets overwhelmed or a table is simply overlooked. But you always, always offer a sincere apology and ask what you can do to remedy the situation. Continuing to ignore someone always make things worse, and I suspect that once our server realized what had happened, she chose to avoid us rather than address the problem. I'm seriously unimpressed, and given how many cafes exist in the area, I suggest you look for coffee and overpriced breakfast somewhere else.
