The Palladium at Crown Casino is absolutely stunning. It deserved its own review, purely because I…read morethink it is a destination in itself. The venue is a very large, grand ballroom, without pillars so it is very versatile. It gets hired out for many events, including weddings, charities, and awards nights. I've attended a couple of charity events here in the past, including a Starry Starry night and an event for the heart foundation, and in all cases the venue has been beautiful. The quality of the events here, in regards to room decor, service, food and beverages are all of the highest standard.I'm sure it costs the event organisers a pretty penny to hire the venue out too. If you are considering the venue for your own function, you can set up an appointment for a viewing; otherwise just pop up to the third level and you might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse whilst they are setting it up.

Its Fuk U Fri!!!!!…read more We stayed here 4 nights on points and the stay was all negative. Negatives: I am a high level Ambassador member, and I booked via the site. Nonetheless, before I arrived I basically had to re-book the room to check in; I am supposed to receive a guaranteed room upgrade. One was not available so they gave me a $75 AUD food credit for the entire stay. Weak AF!!!!! A burger cost $36 AUD. I should have been given a $75 AUD food credit/day. The foregoing would have been more commensurate with the cost of a room upgrade; I tried to book a lounge access room via the site, but the radio button was unavailable. The site wanted you to pay cash & points. I did not want to pay $130 USD/night extra for lounge access; Before arrival I received an email that said I could upgrade to a lounge access room via points. When I inquired about this offer at the front desk, the woman said the points option is unavailable, and it would be $300 AUD/night for an upgrade: WTF?! The upgrade should be $200 AUD based on exchange rates; Shitty room w/ no view; Our room was not cleaned the 3 days we stayed. We had to call the last day to have our room cleaned. The day before we had to bring the trash and soiled towels to the cleaning lady in the hallway; Fuk U IHG!!!!! Your initials stand for I H-ate G-etting Cheated and Lied to, bc that is how I have been treated. This is my 5th stay at an IC or Kimpton high end hotel this year. All of my stays have been disappointing. I don't have the foregoing issues with "real" hotel chains like Hyatt, Marriott nor Hilton.

We definitely will return to this hotel at Melbourne in the future because of Marge

If I was an Australian Eloise I'd probably live in an Art Series hotel. They excel at being…read moresophisticated, comfortable and stylish without seeming to try too hard. And, while it may sound contrived, walking into a room at any of their venues feels like you're home not just another sterile hotel room. Their newest hotel, The Larwill Studio, is conveniently located in Parkville, just north of the CBD. Admittedly, I was concerned it was too far from the city but the fact is, it's not. Think of it as discovering a new up and coming area of Melbourne before the rest of the cool kids do. It's about a $13 cab from the city and if you're a tram pro there's a tram stop just out of the front. It may not be the most convenient for a Chapel St shopping marathon but if you're more inclined to stroll the streets of Carlton, Fitzroy and North Melbourne here's just the spot for you. It's equally important to note it is in the same complex as the new Royal Children's Hospital. This means it's also offering a beautiful and light-hearted space for families of patients. But back to the hotel. Like all Art Series (AS) it's focused on the art of one Australian artist. This one, David Larwill. His pieces accent the walls and I'm sure it is no accident his child-like drawings are a nod to the near-by Children's hospital. The fun and cheek of his artwork carry through from the lobby to each room. While the location and space may be a new adventure for the AS Group, they've not lost anything in translation. I stayed in one of the rooms overlooking what will, in time, be a park space with views to the CBD. Each room has playful additions like a yoga mat in your cupboard to pair with the yoga class on an iPad from reception, pillowcases with David Larwill sayings like "Put your heart in it", Frankie magazine, and a peg-board with inspirational cards - all making the Larwill a lighter and fresher feeling stay compared to the rest of the Art Series family. For those who know the Art Series way you still have your EVO toiletries, T2 tea, the most heavenly beds you may ever gently sink into and drift to a deep sleep. If that's not sweet enough - there's also free WiFi. PRO TIP: Hire one of their orange push bikes and cycle to Parkville Store or the cafe's of North Melbourne for your morning coffee.

I've stayed at their sister hotels in Brissie and Dubai before, and I really enjoyed my stay on both occasions so I had high hopes this time around. Well, I wasn't disappointed! First and foremost, you won't find a better location anyway. At least, I think so anyway. It's literally in the heart of the CBD on Collins Street, thus making it easy to explore the city, get to a train station, restaurant or bar depending on what you're up to. The staff are really friendly and always willing to help. I know it's their job anyway but you'd be surprised how that critical element still lacks in some. Our room was of a very good size and so was the bathroom was well. Granted, the hallway could do with a revamp but I didn't mind it too much. It has a gym and a swimming pool plus meetings and conference rooms as well. The only downside I guess is the fee they charge you to park your cark (approx. $38/night) but all hotels in the CBD charge a fee anyway. I did however find the complimentary bottle of water that they leave in your car every morning to be a nice touch. Overall, I was very happy with our stay and I would definitely stay here again in the future.

Luckily the Savoy was nearby and reasonably priced (and had availability). The lobby looks renovated, all clean and marble-y. There isn't a doorman or automatic doors, which was slightly annoying to me since I was traveling heavy. Ashleigh at reception was really nice and helpful. The room was nice (room 811, photos below) - I had a single queen room and I found it to be perfect. The bathroom was pretty sexy and the view was great - you can see Southern Cross Station out the window! I opted for the pre-paid breakfast - note that you book it in advance, but then pay for it later. They had a wonderful spread of hot breakfast and also yogurts, pastries and fruits. I couldn't try everything. The only thing I didn't care for was the carpets in the hallways - it's plush which is nice, but it was really hard to wheel my suitcases to my room. So I took them one at a time. Would stay here again and would recommend.

The best thing about Wyndham is probably its location. Whenever a friend visits me in my lovely city of Melbs, I check out their hotel and usually have to give them direction to local visitor sites. I have to say that Wyndham is probably one of the best spots to stay at. It's walking distance to Southern Cross, of course a major train Hub and the drop off point for SkyBus airport shuttle. The tram outside Wyndham goes straight up to Melbourne Zoo and queen Vic market and down to South Melborne. The tram across goes to Bourke st mall and Swanson st, IMAX and Melb museum. All these stops are only minutes away to popular eateries and most are within the free tram zones. There is no view other than the court house across the road. And as far as facility goes, I was told it is newer but less luxurious than other Wyndham chains. There is no window in the bedroom which is a downside for me. However comfortable living areas throughout Pretty good for its location I think and worth considering if you are visiting Melbourne and looking to visit the above sites.
